Chapter 1
It was at the Leopold’s villa.
There were lights and decorations everywhere, but few guests were present, except for some of the Leopold
family’s immediate family members sitting on either side of the hall.
In the middle, Mira was holding a wedding with a chicken.
A chicken? Why?
The reason was simple. The groom, Hugh, was in a car accident some time ago. The doctors said that there was nothing to be done and asked Hugh’s family to take Hugh back to prepare for his funeral.
Yet Hugh was the apple of his family’s eye.
Taryn Grantham, Hugh’s mom, was unwilling to give up, and then she invited Adrien Esther, a prestigious man in Harbor City, over. Adrien said that perhaps getting married to someone would be of help to Hugh’s situation.
Hugh and Paige Boyle got engaged when they were young.
Therefore, Taryn planned on asking Paige to marry over.
However, Paige was reluctant. What was more, she immediately married a man that had divorced once already without anyone knowing, pissing off her dad, Odin Boyle,

utterly.
Odin didn’t want to offend the Leopold family, so he thought of Mira, the stepdaughter of the Boyle family.
He felt glad that it had already been more than ten years after the engagement was settled, and the Leopold family had forgotten the name of the Boyle family’s daughter.
Mira thought, “I wasn’t forced. No one threatened me. I did it of my own free will.
“Why wouldn’t I marry over anyway?
“Brenden Leopold, Hugh’s dad, said that given the favor my family has done for them, they would give me 33 million dollars in exchange for me marrying over.
“What a great deal. I don’t have to eat, drink, or sleep with Hugh at all. After he dies, I’ll take the money and buy a place and a car in Svallion City. When I get older and feel lonely, I can keep as many men as I want.
“Who says that Hugh will wake up after getting married?
“That’s not gonna happen at all.
“I don’t believe in those superstitious things.
“The doctors have basically issued his death notice. I don’t believe I am that capable of getting him to come back to live.”
The wedding was over.
Taryn looked at Mira with tears in her eyes. “Hugh is
upstairs. You may go up there with him. Let the maid know if you need anything.”
“OK.”
Mira said obediently.
She had a little baby–fat round face, making others feel that she was nothing but innocent, sweet, kind, and lovely.
One of the Leopold family’s relatives said, “She looks sweet. Who knows? Perhaps Hugh will wake up after all.”
“You’re right,” the others echoed.
Mira was speechless.
She never knew her face could bring someone back to life.
She had no choice but to go upstairs.
Upstairs, the first room she saw was Hugh’s.
She went inside and saw a young man lying on the bed.
His face was deadly pale as if he were a corpse.
Mira was terrified. Yet when she gathered her courage to narrow her eyes and look at him for a second time, she noticed that although his eyes were closed, it was not hard to tell that he was handsome. He had sharp eyebrows, a straight nose, and neat facial lines, and he indeed was good–looking.
“Too bad he’s not a star.”
Mira muttered, leaned close to Hugh, and reached for his breath. “He’s barely breathing. Is he dead?”
She was uneasy suddenly.
She moved closer to him and lifted his eyelid.
Then she was stunned.
Perhaps it was her illusion, yet she thought that she saw his eye moving a bit.
Mira looked quizzically into his other eye.
Then she found that it actually opened. He was staring at her coldly.
Mira screamed.
She was so frightened that she bounced up. She lost her footing, tripped over the stool behind her, and fell to the ground together with the chair.
“What happened?”
The maid heard the sounds and hurried in.
“Gosh! Mr. Leopold is awake!” the maid exclaimed.
“Really? Hugh is awake?” Taryn and Brenden rushed in at
once,
“Hugh! You are awake! Mr. Esther is indeed something!” Taryn hugged Hugh, trembling with excitement.
Hugh’s Adam’s apple rolled with difficulty. He woke up, but
he was too exhausted to speak.
“Stop crying. Get him to the hospital,” Brenden reminded Taryn.
“You’re right! The doctors said to get him to the hospital if he wakes up.” Taryn let go of Hugh immediately. “Call the ambulance! Mira, come along with us. He wakes up the second you get married. I’m sure he’ll be better with you around.”
Mira was speechless.
She thought, “What the heck?
“Am I that capable?
“For the first time in 24 years, I know I can bring someone back to life.
“I’m upset.
“I was hoping to be a happy widow after he died!
“I just want to be a happy widow!”

It was 10:00 p.m.
Mira, dressed in a wedding dress, sat on a chair outside the emergency room, looking confused.
Suddenly, the door of the emergency room was pushed open.
The doctor took off his mask and said, “What a miracle! The patient had no hope of life, but… I’ve never seen a patient like this before, Rest a**ured. The patient has pa**ed the critical stage. His life is no longer in danger”
“Great!”
Taryn cried and said, “Fate favors us after all! Thank you, Mr. Esther. Thank you, Mira. Thank you! You’re Hugh’s Savior!”
Taryn clutched Mira’s hands.
The doctor was confused when hearing Taryn thanking those irrelevant. He said, “Well… There is no scientific basis for such things as superstition. Maybe you should rely on that a bit less”
Taryn snorted, “Then who do you suggest I thank? You? The doctors? You all said my son could not be saved!”
The doctor was speechless.
“Forget it. We need the doctors to treat Hugh well still in case of any after–effects” Brenden quickly pulled Taryn
away,
Soon, Hugh was pushed to the ward.
Mira Was a**igned to be Hugh’s carer. In fact, the Leopold family had already hired two carers, and Mira simply needed to show up.
As she lay in bed wondering what to do next, her phone rang suddenly.
Seeing the caller ID, Mira immediately ran out while holding.
the phone. “Paige…”
“Mira, I heard you married into the Leopold family on behalf of me. Are you crazy? Mr. Leopold is a dying man!”
Paige’s voice was a mixture of anger and concern.
It stood to reason that it was basically hard for two sisters who were not related by blood to get along well.
Yet maybe it was because Paige was only a year older than Mira, they went to and from school together and had always been on good terms, though they weren’t related by blood.
“No. The Leopold family offered me 33 million dollars,” afraid that Paige would wonder, Mira interrupted her. “I figured that after I got married to Hugh and he died, I could be free with the money.”
Paige was speechless for a second and then gritted her teeth. “What about now? How is Hugh?”
At the mention of Hugh, Mira was frustrated. “He’s awake.”
Paige was speechless again.
Mira sighed, “Enough about me. What about you? You have excellent conditions, given how young and pretty you are. You can do a lot better than Allen, that old man who has married once already.”
