Chapter 7 I Can’t Stop Him
Although Nicole had scolded Killian like mad in private, she dared not curse him face-to-face. “Ah, Annis is looking for me. You guys can take your time!”
Right after she said that, she left directly, leaving Vanessa alone with Killian, who was holding back his anger.
Nicole couldn’t resist her curiosity. When she turned around and saw Killian’s gloomy face, she felt slightly guilty for dumping Vanessa.
“Killian won’t hit a woman, right?” she thought.
Looking at Killian, Vanessa smiled, “Okay.” Then, she left Nite Tavern with him. Under the street lights by the roadside, they stood.
Vanessa had just finished dancing, so her hair was a little messy, and her cheeks were slightly flushed.
It wasn’t until now that Killian noticed her
flamboyance. She didn’t look the same as
before.
In the past three years, he seldom paid attention to her. He felt that it was a waste of time to even spare a glance at someone who was obsessed with money and “couldn’t understand her position clearly. When he went back to the villa occasionally back then, Vanessa’s eyes were always soft and gentle.
However, at the moment, her gaze was cold. “What do you want to say, Mr. Bates?” Killian became more annoyed. “Since we are divorced, we have nothing to do with each other anymore. It’s none of my business who you are with. However, we just got the divorce certificates this morning. Although you don’t care about your reputation, I don’t want to be rumored cuckolded.”
Vanessa felt a little sad upon hearing his hurtful words. Raising her hand, she ran her fingers down her long hair. “Well, I can’t stop him from being my suitor, Mr. Bates.” Letting out chuckle, she a continued, “Rather than worrying about the rumors saying that you have been cuckolded, I think you should think about how to find another woman to be your wife after they know the suffering I have endured in the Bates family.”
Having three years wasted on him was enough. Vanessa didn’t want to have anything to do with him anymore.
“I think your secretary should have passed you the word on my behalf. Let’s be strangers from now on.” She glanced at Killian and curled her lip, seemingly like she was mocking him.
Turning around, Vanessa went back into Nite Tavern. Standing under the street lamp, Killian looked frightening. He fixed his gaze on Vanessa’s receding figure, trying his best to suppress his anger.
It was she who wanted to get married to him, and now she acted aggrieved. Killian found her behavior ridiculous. Well, he wasn’t any better either.
Why did he have to come here? Wasn’t it good for him to rest at home at this hour? He had literally made a fool out of himself by showing up here.
Right then, the phone in his pocket vibrated. Killian schooled his expression as he took it out.
The moment he saw who it was, his eyes narrowed. “What’s the matter?”
“Killian, I accidentally knocked into someone’s car. That driver is so fierce. Can you please come over? I’m scared!” Louise said tremblingly, as if she was about to cry at any time.
With a cold face, Killian replied, “I’ll ask Gavin to go there.”
“That’s fine too. But my brother has given me information about that person today. If it’s convenient for you to head over, I’ll hand it to you. Is that okay, Killian?”
Glancing at the colorful billboard of Nite Tavern, Killian fell into silence for a moment. “Where are you?”
“At the intersection of Spring Road.”
“Okay.”
After hanging up the phone, instead of driving there immediately, he entered Nite Tavern again.
Caleb and Musa were surprised to see him
back. “Killian, why are you here?” they asked as if they didn’t see him earlier. Casting them a cold glance, he asked, “Where’s Vanessa?”
Musa touched his nose and said, “She left A handsome guy came to pick her up.”
As soon as Musa finished speaking, Killian’s expression darkened even more. He then turned around and left the bar without saying anything else.
“Tut.” Caleb watched him going away and sighed, “They have divorced. Why does he still care so much?”
Musa shrugged. “Some sort of weird possessiveness, I guess?” “Who knows?”
They had divorced, after all. Killian had no right to meddle in her business. Sitting in the black vehicle, Vanessa
massaged the spot in between her brows. After drinking the two glasses of cocktail that Nicole gave her, she was feeling uncomfortable.
Nicole was in the back seat, held down by her boyfriend, Luca Ruiz. She didn’t dare to move.
It was quiet in the car, and the lights outside the windows were dim. Thinking of what Killian said more than ten minutes ago, Vanessa felt a dull pain in her heart. She had thought that Killian didn’t care about anything. It turned out that he was afraid to be cuckolded.
The car pulled up in front of Vanessa’s villa. Luca said that he could walk her in. However, Vanessa waved her hand and refused. “No, thanks. You better keep a close watch on Nicole. She even dares to play tricks on me now.” Luca smiled, “Well, that’s because you allow her to.”
Vanessa shot him a glare. “All right. You should leave now. I just got divorced today. Seeing couples makes me annoyed.”
“All right. We won’t bother you anymore.” The three of them had been friends for more than twenty years. They were very close and knew each other well.
Luca and Nicole knew that Vanessa didn’t like anyone sympathizing with her. It was just a divorce; Vanessa would be able to move on from it after a few days.
After entering the villa, Vanessa made herself a cup of water with honey. However, when she sat on the couch, instead of drinking it, she stared at the cup on the table. Soon, tears streamed down her cheeks.
How could she not feel sad? Since she was a child, she had always been the best, be it her looks or studies. Although she came from an ordinary family, she was always the focus of everyone’s attention.
If it weren’t for Killian, perhaps she would be able to shine as brightly as Nicole, doing the things she loved.
However, there were no ifs in this world.
She thought she had found happiness when she met Killian at fifteen years old. Little did she expect it to be another abyss. Now that she had finally left him, she would not let history repeat itself again.
