Chapter 180 Disfigured
Before he could leave, Erin exclaimed vexedly. “Don’t leave! Please tell me where my child is. What happened to my child? Where am I? Why am I here? What happened to my body? Why are there bandages on my face?”
This series of questions instantly overwhelmed Paulo, and he uttered one word in response. “Damn!”
Paulo didn’t want to engage with Erin, who was on the verge of having an emotional breakdown. He pressed the microphone on his earpiece and said, “Jenny, come to the ward and explain the situation to her.”
After he gave that instruction, Paulo glanced at Erin and said, “If you have any questions, ask my secretary later.”
Without giving Erin another chance to speak or taking her feelings into consideration, Paulo left in his mobile chair.
“Hey!” Erin was about to ask something else but suddenly remembered that he’d said his secretary would come. As such, she decided to
hold back her questions for now.
Her “Hey!” made Paulo turn around and coolly say, “Woman, remember my name. I’m Paulo Eastwood.”
Paulo Eastwood, a scientific genius in the field of plastic surgery who also happened to be a billionaire known for keeping an extremely low profile, was like a godfather among industry professionals. However, Erin, who had never paid attention to the plastic surgery field, had
no knowledge of this name. So, to her, his name didn’t ring a bell whatsoever.
Erin’s silence displeased Paulo, and he spoke again, “I’ve already told you my full name. Shouldn’t you introduce yourself as well as a
gesture of courtesy?”
“My name is Erin, Erin Lane,” replied Erin, her eyes flickering a little. “Where am I now? Is this a hospital?” She couldn’t help but ask more
questions.
Just as she was waiting for Paulo’s answer, his secretary, Jenny, entered the ward wearing a white coat.
Jenny looked very beautiful yet professional. She immediately walked over to Paulo, leaning forward slightly as she asked, “Boss, I’ve
brought her medical records.”
Paulo handed everything he was holding to Jenny and took the medical records from her. After scanning them briefly, he said languidly.”
You’re not needed here anymore. I’ll talk to her.”
“Alright, Boss,” Jenny replied.
After Jenny left, Paulo stood up from his chair, took off his protective gloves and goggles, and threw them onto it. Then, he began to flip
through the medical records calmly at his own pace.
Erin anxiously asked, “Mr. Eastwood, please tell me where my child is. Is he in another ward? Is he doing okay? What exactly happened?
Was I rescued?”
Paulo ignored her and continued to focus on the medical records.
Erin’s agitation had reached a tipping point. If it weren’t for the injuries on her body and the wound on her stomach, she would have gotten
up to take a look at the medical records in Paulo’s hands.
Erin tried her best to control her temper and waited for Paulo to answer her questions. At least one thing lemporarily gave Erin some peace
-she didn’t see any signs of Tessa and Jack. She speculated that maybe she’d been rescued.
As for the details about her rescue, she could only rely on the man before her to tell her about everything. While Erin waited, she finally had the opportunity to carefully observe Paulo’s appearance.
Paulo had a somewhat solemn expression. His androgynous and aesthetically pleasing face was extremely alluring. His face was
stunning, but every single one of his features constantly reminded others that he was unquestionably a man.
Standing at a height of 6’2“, he resembled a male model with his broad shoulders, narrow waist, perfectly proportioned physique, and long legs. The white coat, made of a special material, had a cutting that was like a work of art. It not only highlighted his slender and toned body but also gave the cold and detached uniform a dual sense of professionalism and nonchalance.
His thick and flashy silver hair was his trademark. It gave him a futuristic look that could be considered alternative fashion.
Ten minutes later, Paulo closed the medical records and lifted his gaze. He said humorlessly. “Now, I will answer your questions. Firstly, it
was me who saved you. The island is an inheritance left to me by my grandfather. Secondly, when I found you, your child was no longer in your belly, so I don’t know where your child is. Thirdly, your burns are severe. If you carry on with my treatment, your burns will completely heal in two years. I can guarantee that there will be no scars. However, you’ll need to pay extra attention to sun protection because your skin will be prone to sunburn and allergies in the future.” 1
Finally, it was time to address the most critical issue. Paulo didn’t continue speaking. He felt hesitant as he looked at Erin, who was practically petrified and still processing her shock.
Weakly, Erin asked, “What else?”
In a calm tone. Paulo asked, “Are you sure you want to hear what comes next? Maybe we should talk about it another day.”
Her tears flowed down like a faucet that had been turned, and the tears gushing out marked the beginning of another episode of despair. She began to doubt if she had gone mad. Erin couldn’t comprehend how she was able to make a choice to listen further after hearing what
Paulo said.
Her child was gone. Tessa and Jack must have stolen her child!
With what little sanity she still had, Erin looked at Paulo and said, “Go on.”
Seeing that she seemed capable of stomaching the bad news he had for her, Paulo chose to take the bull by the horns.
He informed her frankly. “The most severe burns are on your face. As the facial nerves are intricate, every smile and cry of yours will
involve a lot of ”
Interrupting him with panic in her eyes, Erin asked, “Am I disfigured?”
With bandages wrapped around both arms, she couldn’t even touch her own face. This simple action, which was usually taken for granted,
now felt like a clumsy and ridiculous movement because of the burns.
Watching her tears burst forth, Paulo, who usually had an indifferent attitude, fell silent momentarily. He thought her tears would eventually stop. She didn’t burst into loud wails, disregarding her image completely. She silently sobbed, and her tears flowed without
sound as if there was too much bitterness and sorrow in her.
Crying seemed to be the only way she could express her helplessness.
Paulo stood silently in place for a full minute. Finally, he uncontrollably approached her.
From a distance of six feet, Paulo said, “Your tears are of no help to your burns, and if you continue crying like this, I’ll need to call the doctor to change your dressings. Let me tell you, every time the dressings are changed, it’ll feel like you’re peeling off your skin! Although the burn ointment I exclusively developed has achieved the best possible efficacy, it can’t withstand tears.”
His words quickly had an effect, and Erin tried her best to restrain the overwhelming pain and sorrow she felt. In a trembling voice, she asked, “Tell me the truth. Can my face still be fixed?”
No one would be indifferent about their own looks. If a part of the body was injured, scars could be covered using makeup only.
But what about her face? Would she have to wear a mask and wrap a scarf around her neck for the rest of her life? If she lost her original appearance, would Chandler still love her?
