Chapter 12 Making It Official  Juliet was visibly upset. “You’ve never Henry.”  been like this  “Our past doesn’t matter!”  Henry frowned as he continued, “No one is coming in here without my permission!”  Juliet began to tear up.  It was evident that Henry had already developed feelings for Natalie.  He wouldn’t have delayed their divorce otherwise.  Juliet dared not ask Henry any more questions. He’d definitely despise her if she were to prod.  “I’m going to go home then.”  As Juliet left, she hung her head low to hide her tears from him.  Henry’s phone started ringing right after Juliet had left.  The sight of the caller ID made him freeze up in place.  Why was Natalie calling him again?  He answered the call with a cold, uncaring tone, “What is it?”  “You should come to the courthouse as soon as possible. I don’t want to keep on dragging out our divorce,” Natalie stated her demand at once.  She had finally made up her mind after receiving the photos from Juliet.  Natalie wouldn’t tolerate having her emotions invalidated further.  Since Henry clearly wasn’t going to get rid of the admirers flocking around him, Natalie decided to not expect much from him.  She wished for a peaceful separation so that she and Henry could move on from each other.  Henry pursed his lips firmly, choosing to not respond to Natalie at all.  “You have exactly one hour. If you fail to show up, I will hold a press conference and reveal our unpleasant history to the world.”  She hung up right away after giving out a warning.  The divorce should have been a quick and easy procedure. Natalie and Henry  +15 BONUS  Today also happened to be the third anniversary of their marriage.  It was ironic that the day of their marriage anniversary was focused solely on ending it.  Natalie couldn’t help but feel insulted as she thought about it.  She prepared all the necessary documents for their divorce before driving to the courthouse.  She then waited at the entrance to the courthouse for around ten minutes until a car pulled up in front of her.  Naturally, she was able to recognize it as Henry’s car.  Henry got out of the car with a grim expression. He then grabbed Natalie’s arm immediately.  “Stop trying to test my patience, Natalie.”  “Hey, you were the one who couldn’t wait to take Juliet home. I did my part by giving you lovebirds some space. You should be thanking me for being considerate,” replied Natalie with a smile.  Henry frowned as he began to ponder her words. “How did you know about Juliet being at my house?”  “She was so eager to rub it in my face, you know? Also, she was wearing the necklace you gifted her in the photos she sent me. A necklace that symbolizes the love of a lifetime… It really suits her too.”  Natalie continued mocking Henry, “Why don’t we hurry up and get on with the divorce so that you can make it official with Juliet?”  Henry’s breathing quickened, and his chest began to heave from the intense anger bubbling within him.  He began to lose control of his emotions as he growled, “That necklace isn’t-  He quickly realized that he was trying to come clean with Natalie.  When Henry recalled Natalie’s behavior, he decided to shut his mouth.  He saw no need to explain his circumstances.  So what if Natalie misunderstood him? He couldn’t care less about her opinions and thoughts!  Natalie raised her eyebrows in anticipation.  +15 BONUS  Deep down, she hoped for Henry to give a reasonable explanation. She still hoped that he would try to win her affection once more.  But alas, things never went as she had wished.  […]

hapter 11 He Is the One Who Does Not Want a Divorce  “Alright,” Henry answered and stood up swiftly.  Just as he took one step forward, he stepped on the necklace.  His gaze darkened upon recalling everything that just happened.  Henry then picked up the necklace swiftly and left the study room.  Once he was downstairs, he passed the necklace to the butler. “Throw this away!”  The butler was stunned. Although he wasn’t able to identify the brand of the necklace, he could still tell it was valuable.  The butler wondered why Henry wanted to dispose of a perfectly fine necklace.  He didn’t understand. Yet, he dared not ask further.  Just as he was about to reach out to take the necklace, Juliet, who was sitting on the couch, spoke up. “Henry, don’t throw it away. If you don’t want the necklace, you could just give it to me.”  As she spoke, she stood up and walked over to Henry.  The butler looked at Henry, hesitating.  He wasn’t sure whether or not he should dispose of the necklace.  Henry stared at the necklace for a brief moment.  Then, he threw the necklace toward Juliet as if it were a piece of trash. “Do whatever you want with it.”  Juliet caught it swiftly. There was a playful glint in her eyes. “Henry, could you help me put it on?”  Upon hearing this, the butler exited the living room discreetly.  Henry didn’t respond to Juliet’s question. He asked calmly, “Why are you here?”  Juliet responded obediently, “I went to look for you in your office, but Mr. Levine said that you may have returned home, so I came to check on you.”  As she finished speaking, she took a glance at her surroundings. There was a visible smile playing on her lips the entire time.  “Henry, I really like the interior of this house. Did you furnish it according to my preferences?”  +15 BONUS  He had always known her preferences like the back of his hand.  Juliet used to joke about the fact that Henry knew her better than she knew herself.  But one sentence from Henry left her completely stunned.  “Natalie was the one in charge of the interior.”  Juliet was left speechless. She froze on the spot in embarrassment.  It was clear that Henry couldn’t care less about her feelings when he talked to her  now.  Noticing her lack of response, Henry furrowed his brows. “Why are you still here?  Tears welled up in Juliet’s eyes. “Henry, I just have one question for you. Do you …. Do you still have feelings for Natalie?”  This question made Henry’s heart race, but he still maintained his calm demeanor.  “This has nothing to do with you. You should leave now. I don’t have time to entertain you.”  Once he was done speaking, he stood up and added, “And next time, don’t come here.”  Juliet watched as Henry walked upstairs. There was a look of resentment on her face.  She was determined to find a way for Henry to fall back in love with her.  With this in mind, she suddenly collapsed to the ground while clutching her  stomach in pain.  Henry heard the commotion coming from behind him. He stopped in his steps. #  He couldn’t just stand by after seeing Juliet’s condition.  He quickly approached her and asked, “Are you alright?”  “M–My stomach hurts… It hurts so bad.” Juliet’s pitiful expression made her pain look even more convincing. “I–I have some medicine in my bag. Could you please get it for me?”  Throughout the past years, Juliet had been so occupied that she skipped many meals. Therefore, she developed a serious gastric problem. She regularly carried her medication in her bag.  +15 BONUS But at this moment, she wasn’t actually experiencing gastric. She was just using it as an excuse to get closer to Henry.  Henry stood back up. He fetched her bag that was placed on the couch. Then, he searched her bag for the medicine.  After taking the medicine, Juliet still didn’t get any better. She said in a weak voice, “Could you… let me rest in one of the rooms upstairs for a while? I still don’t feel too well.”  Henry hesitated for a moment.  Although he no longer saw her in a romantic way, he still considered her as a friend.  At a time like this, he couldn’t refuse her request.  In the end, he called the butler. “Take her to the guest room upstairs.  “Thank you, Henry.” Juliet smiled at Henry.  “Once you’re rested, please leave.”  Henry walked upstairs after he was done speaking. He left Juliet in the butler’s 

Chapter 10 I Will Fulfill Your Desires Today  Natalie replied calmly, “I won’t be moving back.”  The butler was stunned for a moment. He quickly persuaded her, “Mrs. Chase, please don’t be angry at Mr. Chase. Mr. Chase hasn’t been absent as before. He has been coming home every day.”  Natalie wouldn’t let herself dwell on her feelings for Henry anymore. She brushed it off casually.  “Of course he’s willing to come home when I’m not around.”  “Mrs. Chase…” Just as the butler was about to say something, the sound of the car engine came from outside the gates.  Natalie and the butler looked in the direction of the gates simultaneously.  Henry got out of the back seat of the car casually. He looked as dazzling as he always did.  He was dressed in a finely tailored dark gray suit. All in all, he exuded a sense of nobility and elegance.  His stunning looks were extremely captivating. It made it impossible for anyone to look away.  He walked past Natalie without even glancing at her. “Come to my study.”  Natalie tightened the grip on the item in her hand. She trailed behind him afterward.  Throughout the entire journey to the study, Henry had never once stopped to wait for her nor turned to look at her.  He had no idea how exhausting this one–sided marriage was.  When they entered the study room, Henry sat on the couch. He lifted his gaze to look at Natalie. “What did you want to discuss?”  He was fully prepared to forgive her.  But that was only if she had shown enough sincerity in admitting to her mistakes.  Natalie placed the folder she had been clutching in front of Henry. “I need you to sign this.”  Henry stared at the folder for a moment. He could guess the contents inside. Still, he tried to keep his tone under control. “What is that?”  +15 BONUS  “It’s the divorce agreement. I’ve already had a lawyer draft it. I’ve already signed it. You should sign it too. That way, we’ll both be free,” Natalie explained calmly.  She made it seem like getting a divorce was just a miniscule matter for her.  Yet, the divorce agreement she handed to him felt like a punch to his gut.  At that very moment, Henry couldn’t help but feel like a fool.  Why did he even think of buying Natalie a gift to coax her? Wasn’t he the one to admit that she wasn’t worth his effort?  His efforts in getting her a gift made him feel like a fool!  While Henry was thinking of coaxing Natalie, she had gone ahead to hand him the divorce agreement so ruthlessly!  Natalie noticed Henry’s tense expression. The rage in his eyes was like a volcano on the edge of erupting.  Yet, she didn’t back down. Instead, she asked with a smile, “Henry, don’t you want to sign the papers? Could it be… that you actually have feelings for me?”  Before Natalie could finish her sentence, Henry ripped the agreement into shreds.  “Natalie Shepherd! You’d better not push it!”  Henry glared at her disapprovingly. His eyes were filled with rage. “Let me make it clear. You’d better watch your behavior while I’m still willing to give you a  chance.”  Natalie had anticipated this outcome.  She handed him another stack of papers while saying, “I printed extra copies. You can tear them at your own pace. When you’ve had enough, remember to leave your signature on one of the copies.”  Henry was enraged. He exuded a chilling air.  Yet, Natalie continued to provoke him. “Call me whenever you’re ready to the courthouse to settle the administrative aspects of the divorce. I’ll be right there.”  She completely ignored Henry’s anger.  Just as she wanted to turn around and leave, Henry grabbed her arm.  Then, he forcefully pinned her to the couch.  Natalie was stunned.  to  +15 BONUS  No! She was]  That was why she needed to stop him!  When this thought crossed Natalie’s mind, she tried to push him away. “Henry Chase! Let go of me! Don’t touch me!”  Henry sneered coldly. He insulted, “Have you been too lonely recently that you’ve resorted to these tactics to get what you want? Today, I’ll fulfill your desires!”  Natalie couldn’t even begin to imagine how roughly he might manhandle her when he was furious.  Moreover, he had already started to rip at her clothes.  Natalie couldn’t let anything happen to her baby! 

Chapter 9 Clueless About Her Preferences  Henry ordered with an expressionless face, “I want him gone.”  Wade nodded. “Understood. I’ll handle it.”  He then asked, “Mr. Chase, do you need me to drive you home now?”  “It’s fine. You’re excused.”  “Understood, Mr. Chase.” Wade smiled briefly at Henry. Then, he turned around to leave.  A glimmer of hope surfaced in Juliet’s heart. She was secretly delighted.  She assumed that Henry had excused Wade to spend some alone time with her.  She knew he still had feelings for her.  When she saw Henry walk across the car toward the driver’s seat, she reached out to open the passenger side door.  But, a single sentence from Henry struck her like lightning.  “What do you think you’re doing?”  Juliet was stunned. She quickly forced a smile to suppress her awkwardness. “A- Aren’t you going to take me home?”  “The organizers of the charity gala have arranged transportation for their guests, haven’t they?”  The meaning behind Henry’s words was clear. He didn’t intend to drop Juliet off at her home.  Juliet forced a smile. “Can’t you drive me home? I happen to have a lot to talk to you about.”  Henry opened the driver’s door. “I’m sorry. I’m really not in the mood. Let one of the charity gala’s vehicles take you home.”  Once he finished speaking, he got in the car.  Juliet’s eyes welled up with tears as she listened to the sound of the engine purring to life.  She had to clench her fists tightly in order to stop her tears from falling.  Juliet wondered when Henry had started to become so cold toward her.  +15 BONUS  She had already explained to him that she only accepted Owen’s money back then to study abroad. She wanted to become better so that she could be worthy of Henry.  That was the only reason she had left.  But why did it seem like he no longer wanted her?  Juliet watched as Henry’s car disappeared from her sight. Her expression gradually darkened.  She wouldn’t give up on him so easily this time.  After Henry left the charity gala’s venue, he immediately placed a call. “Are you free? Let’s meet at Dragon Club.”  Half an hour later, someone entered the private room that Henry was in.  “What do you have to complain about Natalie today?” Leonard Richmond asked. He sank into a comfortable position on the couch.  Leonard was already accustomed to this.  Ever since Henry got married, he always called Leonard out for a drink to rant about Natalie.  The last time they had drinks was three months ago. The reason was that Natalie had taken his innocence.  At the time, he had made fun of Henry for quite a while.  He never imagined that the invincible Henry Chase would have his innocence taken by a woman.  “She brought up a divorce. She even returned her wedding ring to me.” Henry picked up the ring on the table. He stared at it from time to time.  The truth was, Henry didn’t actually throw the ring.  Leonard furrowed his brows in confusion. “Shouldn’t you be celebrating by now? Please don’t tell me that you don’t want the divorce.”  The words “don’t want the divorce” felt like a punch in Henry’s chest.  How could that be the case?  It was impossible for Henry to not want the divorce.  He just didn’t want Owen and Moira to keep nagging him about this matter.  Henry immediately cleared his throat. He said firmly, “I want the divorce. But I  –  +15 BONUS  Leonard listened silently. He didn’t believe a word Henry had said.  At that moment, he shot Henry a cheeky glance. “Then why did you ask me here? Do you need advice on how to coax Natalie?” 

Chapter 8 Her Sore Spot  Juliet walked toward Henry. There was a bitter expression on her face.  “Can’t I join you without a reason? Henry, your attitude toward me now is so different from before.”  Henry kept his cool. “I’m married now. Of course I have to maintain a distance with you.”  Juliet smiled helplessly. “Henry, you don’t have to put on a show in front of me.”  Henry was puzzled. “What do you mean ‘put on a show‘?”  “You and Natalie aren’t that affectionate at all! You’re just using Natalie as a shield to push me away, aren’t you? I’ve heard news about you both getting a divorce,” Juliet pointed out with a sense of discomfort.  Henry’s demeanor instantly changed from its usual calm state to one of anger.  He asked in a low voice, “Where did you hear that from?”  Juliet replied, “I heard it from Natalie.”  Henry remained silent as he pursed his lips. At the same time, he clenched his fists tightly in his pockets.  To think that Natalie had publicly announced their divorce when he hadn’t even agreed to it!  Henry wondered if she had actually anticipated the divorce.  Or perhaps she was tired of putting on her act for the past three years. Now, she wanted to reveal her true colors.  Juliet had never seen this version of Henry. She could hardly maintain the smile on her face any longer.  “Henry, are you alright? There’s no way that Natalie is lying, right?”  Juliet’s heart was beating nervously,  She truly hoped that Henry could give her a definite answer.  But Henry’s gaze was suddenly drawn to something else.  Juliet followed in the direction of his gaze. Her heart dropped.  It was Natalie.  +15 BONUS  He was looking at Natalie….  Juliet was standing in front of Henry right now. Yet, he was looking at another  woman.  When she learned that Henry was coming to the charity gala tonight, she had intentionally chosen to wear a red gown.  It was because he had once said she looked best in red.  But now, there was completely no emotion in the way he looked at her.  After Henry left earlier, Natalie searched the lawn numerous times. But she couldn’t seem to find the ring.  After all, it was given to her by Moira. Natalie wouldn’t be able to explain to her if it went missing.  She planned to inform the staff about it so that they would keep an eye out for it when cleaning up later.  Just as she entered the hall, someone called out to her.  “Well, if it isn’t Ms. Shepherd? I thought you’d be busy trying to save your father after he got arrested. I didn’t expect you to have the luxury of attending this gala,  the person said sarcastically.  They had spoken in a high–pitched tone to attract the attention of others.  Natalie could feel that there were many people now looking their way.  She didn’t want to be the center of attention, nor did she want to cause any trouble. She lowered her head and planned to leave.  But the other person quickly caught up to her and blocked her way. “How dare a daughter of a rapist act all high and mighty?”  This matter was Natalie’s sore spot. She was extremely sensitive about it.  She always looked up to her father since she was young. Her father was her role model in her heart.  But, three years ago, the police came to their home and took her father away.  He was charged with rape.  There was no way Natalie believed her father would commit such a crime!  Although three years had passed since the incident, she could never remain calm when this matter was brought up.  +15 BONUS  The person in front of her was Johnny Hill.  He had pursued Natalie back in the day, but she didn’t take a liking to him. Therefore, he held a grudge against her ever since.  He said all those things today just to embarrass her. He took this as an opportunity to boost his own ego.  Natalie met his gaze. She said in an unfriendly tone, “You’d better keep your mouth shut!” a  Johnny sneered coldly, “What did you say? Why should I keep my mouth shut? 

Chapter 7 Are You Done?  What was Henry doing here?  Was this really a coincidence?  Henry saw Natalie. However, he acted as if he saw a complete stranger. He showed no emotions on his face and appeared rather cold.  It was better this way.  At least it was better than him causing Natalie any trouble.  Natalie quickly regained her composure. She greeted Trevor politely, “Nice to meet you, Mr. Costa. I’m—”  Before she could finish her sentence, she was interrupted.  “Since when did the charity gala become so unsophisticated that even a nobody was invited?”  Henry calmly put out his cigarette in the corner. Then, he looked at Natalie with a half–smile.  Natalie’s anger began to simmer. However, she had to maintain her composed demeanor in front of Trevor.  She asked calmly, “What do you mean by ‘unsophisticated‘? Who would you classify as sophisticated then, Mr. Chase? Would a pianist be considered sophisticated?”  The sarcasm in Natalie’s words couldn’t have been more obvious.  Henry’s expression instantly darkened.  It seemed like she just had a way of getting under his skin!  Trevor, who was sitting at a side, observed the two of them. He couldn’t help but ask, “Do you two know each other?”  “No, we don’t,” Natalie replied immediately.  A hint of coldness flashed across Henry’s gaze.  How could they not know each other?  Natalie’s confidence had truly soared!  She even chose to dress extra revealing today to attend this event!  +15 BONUS  Could it be that she was really taking this opportunity to find another suitor? Initially, Henry had planned to give her a way out. But from the looks of it now, there seemed to be no need for that at all.  Natalie’s alluring outfit caught Henry’s attention. It fueled the anger in his eyes.  She didn’t pay any further attention to him. Instead, she turned to look at Trevor. “Mr. Costa, I’m here to talk to you about the Creative Visions Competition. I hope to earn your recommendation.”  Natalie passed him the design sketches she had prepared.  “These are a few of the works I’ve created over the past few years. Please take a look at them. I hope you’ll consider giving me an opportunity. Thank you!”  Natalie looked at Trevor in an earnest and hopeful manner.  Whether or not she would get this opportunity depended entirely on Trevor’s  answer.  However, Trevor didn’t take her design sketches. Instead, he turned around to seek Henry’s opinion. “Mr. Chase, what do you think about this matter?”  Natalie’s heart dropped.  She’d be doomed if Henry turned out to be the ultimate decision maker.  Henry looked up and studied Natalie carefully. “You’re the one asking for help, so why aren’t you showing any sincerity at all?”  Natalie was well aware that Henry was intentionally making things difficult for her.  However, she was never one to give up easily.  She asked calmly, “Mr. Chase, what would I need to do to show my sincerity?”  Henry glanced at the row of liquor on a shelf nearby. “At the very least, you’ll need to drain all the bottles on that shelf.”  Henry wanted to see how får Natalie would go.  If she had no other option, she would naturally have to return home obediently. Then, she’d have to admit how foolish she was in front of him.  Natalie’s expression darkened at once. She was clueless about what to do next.  She was pregnant!  There was no way she could drink alcohol!  915  +15 BONUS  Yet, she didn’t want Henry to know about her pregnancy.  He didn’t deserve to become her baby’s father.  Natalie fell silent.
