hapter 54  Celeste listened in silence. She asked herself in heart if she had heard these  words two months ago, would she still have initiated the breakup?  The answer was yes.  In fact, over the years, “Kendric” represented more than just a name to  Celeste. It symbolized a state of life. If she continued living in the “Kendric”  mode, she would never truly be herself.  Celeste pulled her feet back, picked up the shoes and socks beside, and silently prepared to leave.  But just as she neared the door, she turned around and saw Kendric staring at her intently from behind.  “Kendric, stop making up these stories.”  She slightly shook her head. “It’s too late.”  That night, Celeste slept alone in the bedroom, and Kendric didn’t come  back.  In the study upstairs. At around eleven, Kendric made a call.  At Beacon Senior Care, a caregiver answered the phone.  “Mr. Melville Sr. went to bed early today. When he woke up, I’ll let him know you called.”  In the silence of the night, Kendric sat alone in his study, lost in thought.  He recalled the day when Myles hit him, Celeste hadn’t even given him a  second look, let alone shown any concern for his injuries. At that moment his  emotion went beyond mere depression.  He couldn’t pinpoint where things had gone wrong. But that day when  Myles fell into the coma, the hatred in Celeste’s eyes had sent a shiver down his  spine.  Every time Kendric replayed that moment in his mind, he would be  tortured by the agony.  Starting from that day, he realized that using forceful tactics would only drive Celeste further away. So, he decided it was time for a change.  call.  It was almost two in the morning when his grandfather finally returned his  “What happened, Ken?”  “Celeste isn’t in a good mood lately.”  Caleb chuckled when he heard this, “then do something to make her happy.”  But Kendric was clueless about how to please her.  She had asked him to let her father temporarily live in Vader family, and he’d agreed.  yes.  She had asked him to assign Cade to protect her father, and he’d also said  But none of these things had succeeded in lifting her spirits.  “I told you to treat Cely better, did you do as I say?”  “I did, grandpa, but she… it seems like she doesn’t really care a  things.”  Kendric’s comprehension of “treating well” wasn’t quite the same as  Caleb’s. He thought of it as simply giving Celeste the very best villa, a perfect  wedding, and the most sparkling ring.  “Has she ever mentioned the reason of her displeasure?”  Kendric recalled their first argument, “she said I never respect her.”  Caleb sighed as he gazed outside the window, “Ken, if she feels you don’t  respect her, then it’s definitely your issue. Think about it, is there anything  wrong you’ve done?” His tone turned more serious.  Kendric remained silent for a while, “I get it, grandpa. I’ll reflect on  myself.”  Caleb couldn’t hep but scold, “you’re about to get engaged, and you still haven’t figured out how to respect Cely?”  Kendric silently accepted his barrage of criticism.  “Well, as long as she’s still willing to marry you, you better correct your mistakes.”  What Kendric didn’t say was that Celeste now was unwilling to marry him.  […]

Chapter 53  After dinner, as per his routine, Kendric was about to go back to his study  to deal with official matters.  Before he left, he shot a glance at Celeste. She sat in a chair, eating soup,  and her bare feet dangled beneath the chair.  Noticing his gaze fixed on her, Celeste followed his line of sight, “why are  you staring at me?”  “Put on your shoes.”  Celeste turned a deaf ear to his order. This guy was getting a bit too controlling! Did he have to deprive her of the freedom of wearing shoes?  She paid him no mind.  Everyone stopped what they were doing, surprised and somewhat puzzled as they watched Celeste.  Kendric paused. Actually it’s because he noticed that Celeste’s feet had a faint reddish tint from the cold. However, he was never one to utter sweet nothings. Any word coming out of his mouth would turn into as chilly, commanding directives.  Just wear your shoes, that’s it. Don’t ask me why. That’s what he thought.  Clearly, this weird way of showing concerns no longer worked on Celeste. His care that lay beneath his cold exterior–she had no patience to figure them  out.  Everyone waited in silence, curious about what would unfold next. Perhaps Kendric would unleash his fury and give Celeste a stern talking–to.  Surprisingly, he left quietly, while Celeste continued savoring her soup.  happily.  Madelyn was mad at Celeste’s attitude towards Kendric.  “How can you talk to Ken like that?” she scolded.  “In what way? Did I say something wrong?”  “Ken told you to put on shoes for your own good. You’re so ungrateful.  Celeste gave Madelyn an eye–roll. All these Melvilles are freaking peculiar.  “For my own good? Only when I think it good can we say it’s for my own good. Otherwise, imposing his thoughts or those restrictions on me, that’s called control. Got it?”  Madelyn thought Celeste was spouting nonsense but couldn’t find the right words to argue. She sternly lectured, “you’re getting engaged soon, and Ken will be your husband. How can you call it control to listen to your husband’s words?”  be  Celeste sneered, “what a joke! If it’s natural for a wife to listen to her husband, it’s equally natural for a husband to listen to his wife. Don’t use  excuses like ‘it’s for my own good‘ to shackle me. I know what’s good and what’s  not.”  “How can you blurt out such nonsense?!” Madelyn snapped.  “Oh, I have more of these nonsense. You wanna hear them?”  The atmosphere at the table soured. With her appetite gone, Celeste set  down her spoon and headed to the garden.  Chapter3  Celeste had dropped any thought of reconciling with Kendric. There were  simply too many obstacles between them. His mother didn’t like her, and  Kendric wouldn’t choose her over his own mother.  Kendric’s two right–hand men. First is Cade. Well, he didn’t exactly treat anyone with kindness except Kendric. He even hardly showed any respect to Madelyn.  But Mary is a clear ass–kisser. In the past Celeste couldn’t understand why Mary had been sabotaging her. She now realized that it’s because Mary had long made her choice. She chose to work for Madelyn.  Celeste sat alone in the garden, lost in thought. After planning out her future, her low spirits had slightly lifted.  When Kendric walked in, Celeste glanced at him casually and then shifted her gaze away.  She sat on the garden swing, swaying gently back and forth.  Kendric had recently come to realize that the world he saw seemed different from Celeste’s..  He had planned the wedding, taken Myles to visit the proposal venue, and hoped to have Myles as a marriage witness. Celeste, on the other hand, thought he was using her father to pressure her into marriage.  Everyone around him could see his strong emphasis on the wedding and his high expectations–everyone, except Celeste.  He didn’t have a clue what was on her mind.  Chapter 5  “What’s up?” she asked. 

Chapter 52  Kendric had already taken his medicine and changed into a new set of  clothes. When Celeste entered the room, he was in the process of tying his tie.  He turned around and saw Celeste leaning against the door.  “Shall we have a talk?”  She quickly added her own condition, “don’t start acting all high and  mighty with me, and don’t lose your temper. Otherwise, I’ll end this talk right away.”  Kendric adjusted his tie, let out a little snort, but you could take it as his agreement.  She went straight to the point, “Manuel is outside. Have him take my dad with him.”  Kendric’s face gradually turned sour. It looked like their talk was on the verge of falling apart.  “If you don’t want your father living in Melville family, you can choose any of my villas for him to move in.”  Just hearing Manuel’s name was like touching a nerve for Kendric. He was all tensed up.  “He’s your father. It’s improper to let him live in Vader family.”  She shrugged, “alright, then there’s no need to talk.”  With that, she was about to leave, showing no hesitation.  “Wait!”  Chapter 50  Celeste turned around, “so you agreed?”  Kendric clenched his teeth and remained silent. He clearly didn’t want  Celeste to leave like this.  “Mr. Melville, it looks like we’ve reached a point where further discussion.  isn’t necessary.”  “Fine.”  After about a minute or two, Kendric’s voice sounded, “but it’s just.  temporary. You can pick a new villa in the next few days, and have your father  move there afterward.”  Celeste knew it’s the biggest concession he could make.  “Deal.”  After Myles woke up from coma, Celeste and Kendric paid him a visit in the hospital. As soon as they entered, Kendric was quickly driven out by Myles‘  snarls.  Celeste told her father about her deal with Kendric. Myles looked concerned, “Cely, are you still planning to get engaged to him?”  Celeste shook her head, “I won’t receive his proposal.”  “Yet I can’t escape, either. Kendric won’t let go of me. There’s only one way to make him give up for good.”  Myles got her meaning, “so, on the day you two get engaged, you’re planning to reject his proposal openly?”  Celeste nodded, “Mr. Caleb Melville will definitely be there that day, and  Chapter 52  with him around, Kendric won’t dare to make a scene. Besides, Melville family  has a reputation to uphold. They can’t force me to marry him in front of everyone. I’ve thought it through, and this is the only way to make Kendric give  up completely.”  Myles had a favorable impression of Caleb Melville, thinking he was a  classic gentleman. It was precisely because of that impression that he couldn’t  understand how Caleb’s grandson Kendric turned out to be such a jerk.  At night, Myles left with Manuel to Vader family, and Cade accompanied  him, while Celeste returned to Melville family with Kendric.  As soon as they entered the room, Madelyn immediately cried out in shock, clutching her chest as if she were about to faint any second.  “What happened to your face, Ken?”  Celeste rolled her eyes at Madelyn’s exaggerated reaction, “you already knew everything, so stop your pathetic acting.”  Mary and Madelyn exchanged glances. Madelyn put on a concerned look, “what on earth happened? Does it hurt?”  Celeste watched her deplorable acting. To be honest, Madelyn rarely showed much concern to Kendric. The most frequent thing she talked about was probably what jewelry set Kendric had gifted her this month…  Clearly, Kendric didn’t appreciate such an overly eager display of care. He offered a few perfunctory responses and then took Celeste upstairs.  As they passed Mary on their way upstairs, Celeste flashed a smile at her, “Marry, you only told Madelyn that my dad gave Kendric a beating. Why didn’t you tell her the reason my father beat him?”  Chapter 52  Mary’s face instantly turned as pale as a sheet of paper. She nervously shot 

hapter 51 Myles was utterly provoked by Kendric’s haughty attitude, and each of his punches carried his rage. Kendric, on the other hand, refrained from striking back, and due to his prior instructions, Cade could only stand beside, giving off a fierce look. Worried that things might get out of hand, Celeste pulled her father

Chapter 50  Celeste continued, “dad, please listen to me. If we find a suitable  opportunity, I need you to leave this city first.”  “You can go to find Auntie Aileen. She lives alone in France, and it’s been a  while since you last visited her, hasn’t it?”  Myles shook his head, “you go with me.”  Celeste’s biggest worry was her dad’s stubbornness. He was hard to  persuade when it came to her safety.  “I still have a thing to handle… dad, only after you safely leave will I get rid  of Kendric’s threat.”  “What’s the thing you need to handle?”  Celeste leaned in and whispered a few words into his ear.  Myles pondered for a moment but ultimately decided to trust his daughter.  “Cely, if you go through with this, it’s like giving Melville family a slap on  face in public.”  He patted his daughter’s head. “You must have had a tough time in Melville  family.”  He wiped away the tears that had trickled down her cheeks. “Dad’s always here for you.”  He knew his daughter well. Despite her gentle exterior, she had a strong will. For all these years, she hadn’t uttered a single complaint to him though she had been so wrongly treated.  16:18  Redeemed From Caged Love  Chapter 50  Myles let out a deep sigh.  “I can agree with your plan, Cely. But before I leave, there’s one more thing  I need to do.”  ***  “Where is she?” Kendric got the news as soon as Celeste arrived.  “With her father.” Mary respectfully answered.  Though she didn’t come specifically to see him, it didn’t dampen his good  mood. Perhaps his grandfather’s words last night were right as long as he treated her better, Celeste would gradually change her mind.  Kendric raised his hand and gave an order, “I’m taking Celeste to check out the wedding venue later. Make them prepared.”  He was referring to the banquet hall where the wedding was scheduled to take place that day. Mary nodded and was about to leave but was called back.  “Also, fetch the wedding rings. I’ll need them later.”  Today was a good day.  “And bring me a violin,” he added.  3  No one in the room knew their boss could play the violin! At least they hadn’t heard of it before.  Cade asked hesitantly, “sir, you… play the violin?”  Kendric let out a snort, “then who else could it be? You?”  ***  Chapter 50  Celeste was informed to go to the hotel lobby.  “He didn’t mention anything specific?” she asked the waiter.  The waiter grinned and shook his head, “you’ll find out when you get  there.”  Celeste furrowed her brow, “what’s he planning again?”  She was a bit wary of Kendric’s “surprises.” The first surprise, he brought her father without any prior notice, and she had no idea what kind of stunt he was pulling this time.  Myles stood silently by her side. He was well aware of what Kendric was planning.  If Celeste hadn’t shared with him today about how Melvilles had treated her all these years, he would happily witness tonight’s proposal. However, now that he knew the truth, he realized that for his daughter, this wasn’t a proposal at all. It was a “forced marriage.” 

Chapter 49  In the early afternoon, just past one o’clock, Celeste received Manuel’s call,  “I’ve tracked him down.”  Considering the specific situation, the police couldn’t file it as a missing  case. Without help from the police, they had to go find Myles themselves.  They quickly met up, and Manuel told them more details, “Cely, your father  is currently at Bayside Holiday Resort. I reached out to the resort staff, and  they  confirmed he checked in there around noon.”  Celeste fell into a brief silence upon hearing that Kendric had taken her  father to the resort.  Manuel drove the car in silence. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught  Sienna wearing a meaningful expression as she stared at him.  He ruffled her hair, “hey, that look on your face… what kind of mischief you  are up to again?”  Sienna smirked, “uh–ha, I’ve known your little secret.”  Celeste cleared her throat in embarrassment, “I told Sienna the content of  3  our phone call.”  Manuel wasn’t surprised. He calmly nodded and told Sienna, “now that  you’ve known it, just help me convey it to dad and mom.”  “No problem!”  Celeste blushed as hell with awkwardness. She hurriedly steered the  conversation away, “is Kendric there, too?”  16/17  Redeemed From Caged Love  Chapter 49  Manuel shook his head, “not sure. I couldn’t pinpoint his location.”  Bayside Holiday Resort was owned by Melville Group, too. It nestled amidst  picturesque natural surroundings.  Myles was in quite high spirits. Why? Because Kendric told him this  morning, that he was going to take him to the place where he planned to  propose to Celeste.  Kendric and Myles shared a car. They were both a man of few words,  especially Kendric.  After a long silence, Kendric suddenly spoke up, “Mr. Alinsky, for now, let’s  keep this under wraps from Celeste. Wait until later when the venue is all set  up, and then we’ll bring her in.”  Myles, who had been dozing with his eyes half–closed in the car, woke up and took a moment to realize that Kendric was talking about the proposal.  Kendric added, “I want to give her a surprise.”  The car convoy soon arrived at the resort.  Stepping out of the car, Kendric was promptly greeted by the hotel manager, who rushed to guide him, “Mr. Melville, everything inside is ready.”  Kendric turned to the person behind him, “Mr. Alinsky.”  The/manager finally noticed the middle–aged man following Kendric. He was dressed in a classic suit jacket, blue shirt, and slightly worn leather shoes.  “Mr. Alinsky, how do you like the arrangement here?”  Myles raised his head. The crystal–clear chandeliers above cast a golden  Chapter 49  champagne glow over the pristine lobby.  “It’s set up beautifully,” Myles commended after taking a stroll around. 

Chapter 48  As soon as Sienna entered the office, she was taken aback by Celeste’s  despondent expression.  “What’s wrong, Cely? What’s happened?”  “Kendric, he took away my dad.”  Sienna was somewhat puzzled. “What… What do you mean?” she prodded  for more details. “Why did he take your father?”  Celeste responded with a touch of irritation, “for a forced marriage.”  Sienna sighed, “why are you talking about a forced marriage again? Didn’t  you say you don’t love him anymore?”  Celeste raised her head, “it’s he wanna force me into marriage.”  Sienna gaped in astonishment. “Is he… out of his mind?”  Sienna wore a scowl, “so, what should we do now?”  “If I really lose contact with my father… I plan to report it to the police.”  Sienna suggested, “or… should we ask my brother for help?”  If there was another choice, Celeste didn’t wanna burden Manuel.  While Celeste was still pondering, Sienna had already dialed the number.  “Hey, my brother’s on the line,” she said.  Celeste remained silent, staring at Sienna, who seemed bewildered. “Why  are you looking at me? Answer the phone!”  Celeste was still figuring out how to broach the subject.  16  Redeemed From Caged Love  For all these years, Vader family had been unconditionally kind to her. Just  accepting this kindness had already put a lot of pressure on Celeste. If she were  to take advantage of this kindness to ask for their help…  Celeste couldn’t bring herself to say it. Sienna signaled to Celeste to quickly  get to the point.  Manuel spoke first, “Cely, wait a moment.”  More than ten seconds later, Manuel came out of his office and found a  place where no one else was present.  “What happened, Cely?”  With a heavy heart, Celeste recounted the entire incident to him, “I may  need your favor… could you please help me find my father?”  Manuel appeared much calmer. “Try calling your father’s phone again. If  you’re sure you can’t get through, come find me in my office.”  “I’ll inform my friend at the police station first. If it turns out your father’s…  missing, we’ll follow the necessary procedures.”  Afterward, Celeste dialed Kendric’s number again, and it’s Mary who answered the phone again.  When she inquired about the whereabouts of her father, this time Mary  was honest, “your father is safe. The boss will send him back tonight.”  Hearing that her father would be back tonight, Celeste felt half of her anxiety dissipated.  The whole morning Sienna had been accompanying Celeste in the studio. Celeste forced herself to dive into work.  Redeemed From Caged Love  38.4%  Chapter 48  Sienna’s mind was brimming with questions. Her eyes gleamed with  curiosity like an eager puppy.  Celeste sensed her burning gaze, “why are you staring at me like that?”  Sienna swiveled her chair closer and inquired, “so, what did my brother tell  you just now?” 

Chapter 47 After some chat, fatigue started to creep in. Caleb gave a yawn. Kendric listened quietly, and then frowned, “grandpa, is it too late for me to correct it?” Caleb’s voice was nearly a whisper, but he emphasized, “you gotta show Cely more respect and keep your temper in check. Got it?” Kendric thought

Celeste raised her head. Tears blurred her vision, “what do you mean?”  Kendric looked into her eyes tenderly. His hand lightly stroked the nape of  her neck.  “It means you cannot escape your destiny of becoming Kendric Melville’s  wife.”  Instantly Celeste’s face was drained of color. It was like she had been.  sentenced to death.  go?  She didn’t understand. Since he never loved her, why couldn’t he just let  She looked at him with reddened eyes, “you don’t love me, do you? Then  why… why do you insist on binding me to you?”  Kendric fell into silent. Did he love Celeste? Perhaps even he himself  couldn’t find out the answer,  Since he was a child, he had known of Celeste’s existence. He knew that he  had a fiancée living in a distant town. However, these details were only present  in the words of his grandfather.  It wasn’t until Celeste graduated from high school, and Kendric’s  grandfather took him to Alinsky family. Later, grandfather asked for his opinion about Celeste.  He remembered it vividly that back then he asked his grandfather.  “Without this Celeste, would there be Beleste, Deleste or others?”  Grandfather nodded, and so Kendric distinctly made his choice, “then I’ll  Redeemed From Caged Love  Clame 46  pick this Celeste.”  Anyway, among all the girls, he found Celeste the most agreeable. Over the years, they had lived like this. He didn’t dislike her, and she loved him deeply. They had a harmonious relationship, at least in Kendric’s eyes.  In his heart, there was only Celeste, and he had never considered the possibility of anyone else entering his life.  He believed firmly that anyone might leave him, but Celeste wouldn’t. Anyone might betray him, but she wouldn’t.  Until one day, she said she didn’t love him anymore.  His once mighty heart began to crack. He felt like a child who had broken his favorite toy, desperately wanting to return everything to how it used to be.  He wanted Celeste to go back to the way she was before, back to when she  loved him.  However, he didn’t know how to cherish and protect this fragile love. Instead, he only knew how to use the most forcible means to “repair” their relationship, which only pushed Celeste further away.  No one had taught him how to love, thus he believed that not letting Celeste  leave was his love.  How could he explain to her why he had to keep her confined? Was it  because of love? He himself hadn’t yet grasped it at least not now.  If he had to explain, it was probably because from the first sight he saw  Celeste, he knew he couldn’t do without her in this long dull life.  Redeemed From Caged Love  Chapter 46  The study’s lights remained on till late night. Kendric was standing alone by the expansive French window, lost in thought. He held a black velvet box.  Inside that box lay a ring. He originally intended to discuss with Celeste about their marriage. However, after a heated argument, their conversation  ended on a sour note.  It wasn’t until his phone buzzed that Kendric’s wandering thoughts snapped  back to reality.  Meanwhile, at Beacon Senior Care, the night had grown deep. In the  courtyard, a frog had taken up residence in the pond, filling the night with its  noisy croaks.  Caleb was stirred awake by the noise. He called for one of the caregivers.  “What time is it?”  The caregiver entered and switched on the bedside lamp, “it’s eleven, sir.”  Caleb nodded. His sleep patterns had become somewhat irregular. Often,  he’d feel drowsy by seven or eight in the evening, only to awaken around eleven  or twelve. 

Chapter 45  Tonight, when Kendric found out that Celeste had sneaked out to see  Manuel Vader, he initially felt a deep sense of betrayal.  In the past, Celeste professed her love for him, and everyone around them said she was head over heels for him. Over time, Kendric had gotten used to it.  But now, when something he had taken for granted was taken away, he  couldn’t sit still.  He had to admit that to some extent, he began to believe that Celeste no  longer loved him.  o Wils for  Except for that initial  He couldn’t put into words what  discomfort, what came after was a mix of fear and panic.  This was the first time in his twenty–eight years that he had felt fear.  And… the agony in his heart.  The crystal chandelier overhead was casting the spacious living room in  daylight–like illumination.  Celeste’s cold attitude made Kendric experience the disdains he had never  experienced before.  All her tender facades were torn away in that moment. Her face was filled  with unmistakable disgust, to him.  Yes, Kendric could clearly sense that Celeste disgusted him, just like he was  a bothersome fly.  Undoubtedly, it left this proud man deeply offended.  350%  Redeemed From Caged Love  Now his eyes were sending out signals of not only anger but also danger.  At this moment, Kendric was like a volcano on the verge of eruption.  A slight fear surfaced from Celeste’s eyes.  She wasn’t afraid of Kendric getting angry. In fact, he was still at his  composed when he was furious.  What Celeste feared most was when he narrowed his eyes and stared at her  in silence it made her feel like she was being targeted by a long–starved beast. And she could never fathom what he was thinking at those moments.  Perhaps he was considering whether to lock her up, never to let her leave. again, or maybe… to strip away everything she held dear, just to hear her beg.  act?”  Kendric raised an eyebrow, “now you can’t even be bothered to put on an  “Oh, thank goodness you got it,” she mocked.  “Celeste, you think yourself clever?”  “Of course, if I weren’t clever, how could I have deceived you with just a few words this afternoon to let me leave?”  Kendric couldn’t hide his growing irritation.  Seeing his pride slowly crumble brought Celeste great satisfaction. She thought that perhaps, after spending so much time with Kendric, she had become a bit crazy herself.  Celeste wore a smirk after blurting out these words.  Kendric silently sat on the sofa.  Chapte*-45.  After a long dead silence, he enunciated each word, “I nearly forget to tell  you. Tonight, I discussed our wedding with your father.”  For a brief moment, Celeste thought she had misheard, and she stared at  him in disbelief, “are you nuts!”  There was a glint of delight in Kendric’s eyes. He rose from the sofa, his  black silk pajamas loosely draping over his well–built frame. It looked like the  robe of the Grim Reaper.  “I thought you would be delighted to hear this news….  J  “Just like how delighted I was when hearing that you met Manuel Vader
