Chapter 64  Celeste pushed the door open and saw Kendric making a phone call in the study. He was wearing a loose–fitting navy–blue pajama. It seemed like he  appeared to have lost some weight.  While he was on the phone, Kendric turned his head towards the door.  When he saw it was Celeste, he suddenly paused.  “I’ll call you back later,” he promptly hung up the phone.  “Why did you come?”  Celeste sized him up. He seemed quite well. Except for the dark circles  under his eyes, everything appeared normal.  She asked, “Aren’t you feeling unwell?”  Kendric seemed a little annoyed, “who told you that?”  “Alright, you’re energetic enough to get mad, so I guess you’re not really  sick.”  Kendric quietly pulled his sleeve down, as if hiding something. He shifted  his gaze away from her, “I’m perfectly fine.”  Celeste nodded, “I can tell. Okay, my task is done. I’m leaving then.”  As she turned to leave, Kendric took a step forward and hesitated, “you…”  “Yes?”  “Ahem, do you have another reason for coming here?” He pressed his lips together and raised his chin.  Celeste felt a bit puzzled, “no.”  Chapter 4  Kendric seemed depressed and then sighed, “forget it.”  “Huh?”  She found it a bit bewildering, “don’t put on that expression. You’re making  it seem like I did something to upset you.”  Kendric remained silent, and after a moment of contemplation, Celeste.  suddenly realized.  Could he possibly think she’s here to apologize? For what happened that  night?  Celeste was left speechless.  She didn’t even bother coming in. She propped herself against the  doorframe, cocked her head, and drawled lazily, “you seem fine, so there’s no  need I stay here.”  “Oh, and,” she cast a glance at him, “take good care of yourself. You’re not a  child.”  “Are you worried about me?”  Celeste chuckled lightly, “don’t flatter yourself. If it weren’t for Cade telling me that you were seriously ill, I wouldn’t have bothered to come.”  Kendric’s hands unconsciously clenched into fists.  He stared at Celeste intently, as if he was trying to figure out whether her words were true.  Finally in a low, hoarse voice, he said, “you can go.”  Celeste was in a pretty good mood. She even flashed him a smile,  Chapter 64  “goodbye.”  This “goodbye” was like a dagger, deeply piercing Kendric’s heart.  He stood there alone, his head turning more and more dizzying.  As soon as Celeste turned to leave, she heard a sudden muffled thud from  behind. It sounded like something heavy had fallen.  The study’s carpet was thick, yet the thud was loud.  Celeste curiously glanced back.  The man who had been standing by the window a moment ago was now  sprawled lifelessly on the ground.  Instantly, her pupils shrank, her heart thumping wildly, a sudden rush of  […]

Chapter 63 In the evening, Celeste lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. Her mind was in disarray. She got up and absentmindedly stared at her phone. Chapter 61 Suddenly, the front door swung open, and Manuel walked in. “What’s so funny?” Celeste heard his voice. Her smiling face turned into a surprised expression.. Chapter 60  Over the next few days, Madelyn was drowning in tears. The idea of leaving Melville family made her feel like her life of luxury and wealth had come to a  crashing end.  Celeste was fed up with her non–stop crying, so she hadn’t returned home.  for several nights.  Kendric was away on a business trip. On the night he returned, Celeste had been sleeping in her studio for a week.  That evening, before leaving the office, Sienna glanced at Celeste’s office  and noticed that the light was still on.  She knocked on the door and walked in, finding Celeste still deeply  engrossed in her painting.  It’s obvious that she’s gonna work overtime. Sienna took a quick look at the  folding bed in the office. “You’re staying over here tonight?”  “Yep, you have no idea how annoying it is to hear Madelyn wailing at home.  every day.”  “Why not come to my home?”  Celeste thought it would be awkward to meet Manuel, so she declined, “it’s  okay. I’ll just stay the office tonight.”  “How about coming over for dinner? My dad took your dad fishing this  afternoon, and he’s definitely going to invite your father to dinner tonight. Don’t  you want to see your father?”  Yeah, Celeste hadn’t seen Myles for nearly a week.  Redeemed Froin Caged Love  Sienna added, “don’t worry, my brother isn’t home for dinner tonight.”  Celeste agreed at that point.  Myles had already moved out of Vader family, and Celeste had rented an apartment for him. It was a two–bedroom one, with Cade living in the other  room.  On her way to Vader family, Celeste received a call from Kendric. She didn’t  pick up the phone immediately.  Until he was running out of patience, she slowly pick up the call.  The previous week, he was planning on a business trip abroad and had told  Celeste to stay at home. Instead, she had decided to sleep in her office the  following day.  In the days that followed, Celeste hadn’t called him either, and they had become distant, almost like strangers.  Celeste was pretty content with this situation, living life freely and seldomly worrying about anything.  They continued in this silence for a week until Kendric rang her up.  Celeste wore her bluetooth earpiece, “yes?”  The voice on the other end sounded somewhat fatigued, “I’ll be back home today.”  “I see.”  There was a brief pause on the call. They usually didn’t have much to chat about, and it used to be fine when Celeste behaved active. Now that she had  stopped taking the initiative, awkward silences were becoming more common  between them.  Just as Celeste thought the call had ended and was about to disconnect her Bluetooth earpiece, Kendric suddenly inquired, “where are you?”  “Outside.”  He pressed further, “where?”  She sighed, “I’m heading over to Vader family.”  ww  This time, the silence lingered a bit longer. His tone held a hint of jealousy  as he asked, “who are you meeting?”  Celeste couldn’t help but roll her eyes.  “What does it have to do with to you?”  Clearly, Kendric thought he had a lot to do with it. “Are you meeting Manuel  Vader?” 

Chapter 59  A few minutes later, Kendric came downstairs. Celeste was sitting across from Mrs. Jones and, upon seeing him, she urged, “Alright, everyone’s here, Mrs. Jones, you can kick things off.”  Kendric shot a quick glance at Celeste, puzzled about what she was up to. He didn’t seem thrilled about having so many strangers at home, but he still begrudgingly took a seat on the couch.  Mrs. Jones cleared her throat, ready to commence her lecture.  “Let’s pick up where we left off in our last lesson. A man’s criteria for  picking a wife should be whether she can help manage the household  effectively, not just her looks.  home.”  y attractive women can create chaos in a  Mrs. Jones specially cast a glance at Celeste.  Celeste inquired, “Mrs. Jones, so you mean stunning women might stir up  trouble?”  Mrs. Jones nodded in agreement.  Kendric furrowed his brow deeply. He gave a “what bullshits you are  talking” glare at Mrs. Jones. Anger was beginning to smolder in his eyes.  Mrs. Jones continued, “women should be humble, gentle, and not  domineering. They should learn how to cater to their husbands. Similarly, men shouldn’t be overly good to women. You need to have tactics and attitude when it comes to handling your wife.”  Celeste turned to Kendric, “you get it?”  Redeemned From Caged Love  rage.  “That’s what she’s teaching you every day?” he tried to suppress down his  Celeste nodded, “yeah, be patient and keep listening.”  Kendric felt like he was about to run out of his all patience.  Mrs. Jones continued to drone on, “a perfect wife should cook meals for her  husband, do the chores and…”  up…  “SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!” Kendric rose from the couch.  Mrs. Jones was taken aback by his outburst and shook her head, “L… I shut  “Luke! Drive her out!”  “Yes, sir,” he pulled Mrs. Jones toward the door.  Kendric’s gaze wandered among the people in the living room, “who  brought that idiot here?”  Madelyn immediately pointed at Celeste, “Celeste!”  Celeste smiled, “if it weren’t for you letting me attend her classes, how  would I know her?”  Madelyn perceived Kendric’s wrath and quickly explained, “no, I don’t know this Mrs. Jones.”  Celeste sat with arms crossed, “Mrs. Jones is the teacher your mother specially hired to give me lessons.”  “Is that so, mother?”  Madelyn quickly waved her hand, “no, I didn’t. I don’t even know her.”  Redeemed From Caged Love  Celeste sneered, “believe it or not, I told you the truth.”  The hall fell silent for a moment. Ellie Grayson, who had been silent all  along, suddenly spoke up, “it was Mrs. Quinn who had Mrs. Brown trick Celeste  into attending the class.”  Madelyn immediately jumped up, “crap! You liar!”  Kendric looked at Celeste and saw that she didn’t want to explain further.  Coldly, he commanded, “from today on, we won’t allow outsiders in. Also, after the engagement ceremony, Mother, you will return to your hometown in  the south.” 

Chapter 58  The following morning, Kendric woke up, full of energy and in high spirits. He headed straight to the ground floor’s boxing room for an early morning workout. While Celeste sat on the garden swing looking all gloomy.  An hour or two later, Kendric returned from his boxing session. He saw Celeste sitting on the swing, so he halted his steps toward the living room and  walked toward the garden.  IN  Maybe it was because he’d had an exceptionally good night’s sleep, but today he looked particularly refreshed. Even the smile on his face was brighter  than usual.  He noticed Celeste napping with her head leaning on the swing’s rope. The  ropes were thickly woven from hemp, very stout.  Standing behind her, he arched an eyebrow and asked, “why are you taking  a nap here?”  Celeste rolled her eyes. “You know well the reason.”  If he hadn’t gone to her room last night and ruined her good sleep, how  would she be so tired.  Kendric pretended to be clueless.  He sidestepped that conversation and offered his hand to her. “have you  had breakfast?”  Celeste didn’t reach out but instead yawned, “who dares to eat breakfast  before you come back?”  She then leisurely put on her slippers and shuffled back to the living room.  Redeemed From Caged Love  Chapter  Kendric followed her and, seeing her spiritless state, suggested, “why not  come exercise with me next time?”  Celeste gave him a deep look and muttered to herself, “we have no ‘next  time“.”  Celeste’s words felt like a tiny bug biting at Kendric’s heart. At first, he wore  an indifferent expression, but as he mulled over the meaning of her words, his  heart suddenly twinged with pain.  The pain, lighter than a spring breeze, yet spread faster than wildfire.  He reached out but couldn’t catch her.  Breakfast was peaceful on the surface. Celeste was enjoying her hot pancakes. Kendric expertly sliced his bacon with a knife and fork. Madelyn, on the other hand, was leisurely sipping her fruit and vegetable juice.  From time to time, Madelyn stole several glances at her son, as if she had something to say but was holding back.  Celeste raised her head. She gave Kendric’s arm a gentle nudge, “your mom’s got something to tell you.”  Kendric turned his head slightly, “you have something to tell me, mother?”  Madelyn looked slightly worried, “has anything been going on at the company lately?”  Celeste leaned forward and pricked up her ears.  Kendric grabbed a napkin to clean his hands. “No, everything’s normal.”  Madelyn hesitated, “then, why…”  “Yeah?”  Celeste ran out of her patience listening to their roundabout conversation. “She means, since the company’s not going under, why are you spending every day at home instead of going to the office.”  Kendric turned toward Celeste. One of his hands was holding a sparkling knife, and the other was a sharp fork. Celeste suddenly felt she was like the  bacon on his plate.  “You know well why I keep staying at home,” he said with a smile.  Kendric wasn’t particularly concerned whether Celeste believed that he was  genuinely in order to accompany her.  He was subtly hinting to Celeste that he was sacrificing his valuable time to  accompany her.  But Celeste remained unaffected.  Shortly after breakfast, Celeste heard the sound of several cars pulling into the yard. It was Kendric’s brain trust, and they headed straight for the study on the second floor.  Celeste sat in the garden downstairs, working on her painting, and patiently waited for Mrs. Jones to arrive. 

Chapter 57  Kendric opened his eyes. “How long had I slept?”  “Less than twenty minutes.”  It was evident that Kendric thought he had slept for a few hours.  Celeste knew his sleep quality had always been subpar, which was one of the reasons for his frequent overtime. Every time he couldn’t fall asleep, he  would choose to get up and work.  “Why don’t you go back to your own bedroom and get some rest?”  Kendric, who had just woken up, seemed a bit groggy. He posed a stupid  question, “Why does your bed feel different from mine?”  “What do you mean by ‘different?”  After a long pause, he finally found a word, “cozy. Yours is cozier than  mine. What’s that fragrance on your bed?”  Celeste was nearly exasperated by his words.  His bedroom was equipped with top–of–the–line furnishings, a genuine leather bed imported from Italy and meticulously chosen silk bedding. Yet, he  had the audacity to claim her bed was more comfortable?  “The smell of laundry detergent! Now go back to your own bedroom and get  some sleep.”  After Celeste had kicked Kendric out of the room, she flopped onto her bed  and took a sniff. Apart from the detergent scent, there was nothing else, and she  was growing more convinced that Kendric had just been making excuses.  Redeemed From Caged Love  ChapteN67  After some rest, Celeste planned to visit her dad in the afternoon, but  Kendric insisted on tagging along, and she didn’t want Kendric’s arrival to ruin.  her father’s mood.  So, she changed her mind and went to the studio alone. She stayed there  until a little past eight in the evening.  Kendric called once to ask where she was. Celeste simply replied that she  was at the studio and promptly hung up.  After that call, Kendric didn’t ring her again, which was totally not his  style.  Yes, that’s the question. It seemed Kendric had changed a lot recently. The  most obvious change was that he became more easy to communicate, more like  a normal person.  It was like he’d gone from being clueless of love to suddenly receiving  guidance from a love expert.  But, Celeste thought, considering Kendric’s personality, he probably  wouldn’t be taking love advice from anyone.  Perhaps she was overthinking it.  When she got back home, Celeste found Kendric sitting in the living room.  She glanced at the clock, a quarter past nine.  She thought Kendric was about to lose his cool because she broke his  fucking 9 o’clock curfew again, but to her surprise, he simply said, “come back  earlier next time.”  Then he acted like he had just run into her by coincidence, and he walked  Redeemed Fromm Caged Love  past Celeste toward upstairs.  Celeste was bewildered.  Janney came over to take her bag and explained with a smile, “sir had been waiting you as soon as he finished dinner.”  Celeste watched Kendric’s back until his figure disappeared from her sight.  She hadn’t done anything, so why was he acting so out of character  recently?  After her shower, Celeste took it upon herself to call Mrs. Jones. She began 

Chapter 56  Celeste sat quietly in her car, waiting for the wave of nausea to subside.  before finally heading back.  As she arrived home, she saw Kendric’s still parked in the garage. She walked past it, stopped, and couldn’t resist giving it a kick.  Back in the yard, the servants were still laying out the carpet.  In the garden, Kendric was seated on the swing she had occupied the  previous night.  From behind, all Celeste could see was his head bowed, his hands busy with  something. She quietly approached, craning her neck to see what he’s doing.  There was a cardboard box at his feet, filled with torn–up scraps of his own  portrait, and he was meticulously trying to put them back together.  Celeste was left momentarily speechless. Seriously?  “Aren’t you going to work today?”  She genuinely couldn’t wrap her head around it. In the past, all his time  was occupied by work stuff. Sometimes he had no time to even rest,. He would  come home to swap his suit just to rush off for another flight.  And now, he was home, casually playing the… jigsaw puzzle?  “No work today,” he replied, occasionally bending over to rummage  through a box for another scrap of portrait.  Politely but with a tinge of anticipation, she inquired, “is it because your  company has gone under?”  Redeemned From Caged Love  Chapte56  Kendric wore a face of ‘I’m afraid I’m about to let you down.”  “No.”  Celeste didn’t press further on why he wasn’t working- asking more would  make her seem cared much about him.  Instead, she offered a well–meant suggestion, “you know, maybe you should give up on fitting them together. It’s more easy if you have someone draw a new  one for you.”  Kendric turned around, and with a mix of seriousness and a pretense of  disinterest, he asked, “then would you draw a new one for me?”  “Well, keep dreaming, boy.”  Before long, it was time for lunch..  Because Kendric was at home, today’s lunch was fancier than usual.  Celeste had endured a morning of Mrs. Jones‘ freaking etiquette lessons and  was now very hungry. She sat down to eat but was stopped by Madelyn, “we  should wait for Ken.”  The butler entered from outside, “Mr. Melville said he’s not gonna have the  lunch, and you needn’t wait for him.”  “Not having lunch? Why?”  Celeste lazily gazed out into the garden, where Kendric’s silhouette emerged from the lush greenery.  But what did all of this have to do with her?  “It simply means he’s not hungry,” Celeste shrugged.  Redeemed From Caged Love  Chapter  Madelyn chimed in, “Ken isn’t having lunch. As his fiancee, you’re not  worried about him?”  Celeste found it amusing, “is your son three years old? Does he need me to  feed him?”  Celeste stood up and pulled her chair away and cast a casual glance outside.  “If he’s hungry, he’ll come eat.”  She was in no mood to stay at the table with Madelyn. Celeste headed to the 

Chapter 55  The woman who came downstairs was pregnant, donning a loose–fitting  nightgown. Celeste greeted her with a polite nod and a smile.  The pregnant woman behaved enthusiastic, “hello, who are you?”  a  Celeste introduced herself, “hi, I’m Celeste Alinsky, painter and designer. I’m here today to discuss some sketches with Mrs. Brown.”  “I’m Ellie. You just said sketches? Can I take a look?”  “Of course,” Celeste displayed her design drawings on the computer screen.  Ellie was impressed and praised, “they are beautiful. It looks like you’re a talented designer. I’d love to see more of your work.”  “If you’re interested, feel free to visit my studio anytime. We have plenty of design pieces on display there.”  “Really? Well, I might have to wait for a while. Mrs. Jones told me women. shouldn’t leave their homes during pregnancy.”  It’s the first time Celeste heard such a weird thing.  “Is Mrs. Brown your mother–in–law?”  Ellie nodded, and Celeste added, “then who is Mrs. Jones?”  Ellie checked the time, “Mrs. Jones is Mrs. Jones. She should be here soon.”  Just as she finished speaking, Mrs. Brown walked in, accompanied by a middle–aged woman. Mrs. Jones was dressed in a vintage ankle–length dress with a high collar and long sleeves. God, she looked totally like she’s from the 19th century.  Chapter 55  At first glance, Celeste dislike this staid Mrs. Jones, but she didn’t behave it  on the face.  Mrs. Jones, on the other hand, observed her closely, making Celeste feel  quite displeased.  “Celeste, it happens to be the time for Mrs. Jones to give the class today.  Would you like to listen?”  The class? Celeste was about to decline but was discreetly nudged by Ellie.  She whispered, “you can come join the class. Mrs. Jones is quite  knowledgeable.”  Although Celeste wasn’t very interested, it seemed Mrs. Brown wasn’t ready  to sign the contract, so she agreed, “alright.”  In the study, three chairs were set up before Mrs. Jones. Ellie took her seat  first. She cautiously sat on the chair, with her hands folded on her lap.  Celeste sat on the chair with her arms crossed, staring at Mrs. Jones.  Mrs. Jones began her class, “women should be devoted to their children and  be submissive to husbands.”  Celeste let out a cold sneer. She thought if Mrs. Jones dared to deliver such a speech in public, she would definitely be beaten to death on the street.  She couldn’t believe it when hearing such bullshits in modern times. Celeste turned to observe Ellie and Mrs. Brown, who, however, behaved accustomed to  Celeste couldn’t bear it anymore. “Mrs. Jones, excuse me for my abrupt question, but may I ask how old are you?”  Chapterss  Mrs. Jones was clearly displeased that her speech was interrupted. “Yes,  Miss Alinsky, I’m 42.”  Celeste widened her eyes in shock, “42! I thought you were 442, otherwise.  how could you blurt out such fusty crap!”  Mrs. Jones wasn’t fuming. Instead, she held her head high with a sense of  pride and strolled over to Celeste. She meticulously observed her for a while,  “Miss Alinsky, it seems you’re not quite on board with my viewpoint, are you? A  good wife is supposed to share her husband’s burdens and manage the  household. Have you fallen short in these aspects? I’ve heard you’re from the  countryside, and that could explain it. With all due respect, if you don’t learn.  proper etiquette and embrace the responsibilities of a wife, you might easily  lose your husband’s affection and end up deserted.”  to was on the veri  of gagging.
