Chapter 73  “Celeste, you really think grandpa can stop me? Naive girl.”  Celeste tried her best to hide her unease, telling herself that this wasn’t the  worst outcome. She still had hopes.  They were locked in a standoff until the butler knocked on the door, “Mr.  Melville Sr. is awake.”  Hope glinted in Celeste’s eyes. She gave Kendric a firm push and slammed  the door behind her..  She blinked her red, puffy eyes and tried to compose herself.  “Grandpa!”  She smiled as she pushed open the door to Caleb’s bedroom. Caleb was sitting in a chair.  “Cely.”  He put down what he was holding and waved her over. “Come here.”  Celeste handed the carnation bouquet in her arms to the nearby maid and sat down obediently.  Fate had a funny way of working. Kendric’s father passed away while Celeste’s mother passed away, but they had a doting grandfather, Caleb.  Celeste’s sweetly calling him grandpa filled Caleb’s chest with joy.  They chatted for a while, and then he looked towards the door. “Where’s  Ken?”  Celeste tried to keep her expression natural. “I don’t know, probably in a  Redeemed Fenni C  meeting.”  Yet Caleb keenly picked up on the tension between them. “You had a  quarrel?”  Celeste honestly gave a nod.  “That blockhead! My fault. I spoiled him too much,” he sighed. “If he upsets  you, tell me, and I’ll kick him in the ass.  Caleb clenched his fist and struck a pose as if he was ready to throw punches.  Seeing that he was in high spirits, Celeste thought it a good chance to tell the truth, “Grandpa.”  Caleb affectionately patted her head.  “I… I don’t want to get engaged to Kendric.”  The smile on Caleb’s face didn’t fade, and he calmly asked, “is it because you haven’t thought it through? That’s okay. You two are still young, so postponing the marriage isn’t a big deal.”  “No, Grandpa,” she cut in.  “I mean, I don’t want to marry him.  The smile vanished from Caleb’s face, yet his tone remained light. “Tell me, what happened?”  His gentle tone sent Celeste some courage.  “Grandpa, I don’t like him anymore.”  Caleb was slightly taken aback. He witnessed how deeply Celeste had loved  Chucker–73  her grandson. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have allowed them to live together and  nurture their relationship.  Caleb immediately sensed that something was amiss.  “Tell me Cely, what on earth happened to you?”  Tears welled up in Celeste’s eyes, and she rested her forehead on Caleb’s  knee.  “Don’t cry. Whatever problem you meet, Grandpa will handle it for you.”  After Celeste had calmed down, she explained how Madelyn had wrongly treated her when Caleb and Kendric wasn’t around, how the butler, Mary, and the other servants had disdained her in various ways.  She detailed how Kendric seemed indifferent to her. Most importantly, she emphasized that his overbearing and unreasonable personality made it impossible for her to have a proper conversation with him.  “Grandpa, Kendric doesn’t really love me. He’s just used to me by his side, used to my gentleness, and used to my selfless giving without expecting anything in return.”  “But I feel so hurt… I regret liking him now.”  “I didn’t  want to see him, but he caught me and even forced me onto the  boat,” she was unable to hold back her emotions any longer. 

Chapter 72  With less than a week to go before the engagement ceremony, Celeste was swamped with work in her studio. Kendric remained as busy as ever,  frequently away on business trips.  If it weren’t for that countdown on the calender, Celeste might have even forgotten she had an engagement ceremony approaching. Despite her efforts to appear nonchalant, her nerves were always on edge.  Two days before the engagement. Kendric’s grandfather Caleb returned from Beacon Senior Care. It was a rainy day, and the clouds outside were dark, like chunks of dirty ice thawing slowly.  Kendric’s car was parked downstairs the studio. Luke came up to her office and knocked on the door. Celeste barely looked up, “what’s up?”  “Miss Alinsky, Mr. Caleb Melville is back.”  Celeste slowly raised her head. For a split second she felt like seeing a stray of sunlight through thick fog. She unconsciously gave a smile.  She had finally waited this day.  “He’s arrived?”  “Yes.”  Outside, the rain was pouring down. Raindrops splashed into puddles. Celeste glanced at the flower shop opposite the entrance. She suddenly dashed into the rain.  Kendric watched her silently through the car window. It wasn’t until she disappeared from view that his heart skipped a beat. He instinctively got out of  Tedented From Caci  the car.  As he approached, he saw Celeste coming out of the flower shop with a  bouquet of white carnations.  Kendric breathed a sigh of relief and walked briskly towards her, reaching  out to touch her shoulder.  The wind was strong, but he held the black umbrella steady. They got in the car. Celeste placed the bouquet on the seat. She caught a glimpse of Kendric whose shirt had been dampened by the rain.  He was in a deep blue shirt, and the place where soaked by the rain. resembled ink blots.  She averted her gaze. “Your shoulders are all wet.”  Luke quickly handed over a towel. “Sir.”  Kendric had tilted the umbrella to Celeste’s side, so she hadn’t gotten too wet despite the heavy rain.  Kendric took the towel and was about to help dry her hair, but Celeste instinctively flinched, and his hand hung in midair.  After a moment, she reached out to take the towel and offered a faint smile. “Thanks.”  Kendric fell silent for a moment, “you seem in a good mood.”  She was indeed in a good mood today. After all, the only person who could manage Kendric had returned.  “Yep.”  Redeemned From  Chapter2  She handed the towel back to him, who casually wiped his shoulder and  tossed it aside.  Celeste sensitively perceived that he didn’t seem pleased to see her joy.  ***  The car pulled over in the yard. As soon as they stepped inside the villa,  they saw the medical team moving equipment.  Caleb, in his eighties, had poor heart and lung function and suffered from asthma. That’s why they brought an entire medical team with him.  Caleb had been exhausted from a long journey. When they arrived, he had just fallen asleep.  Celeste went upstairs directly to pack her things. As soon as Caleb woke up, she planned to explain clearly to him that she didn’t want to get engaged. After that, she could leave here for good.  Kendric had developed a peculiar interest in studying Celeste’s facial expressions. For instance, now she looked like a lively and cheerful sparrow, fluttering with happiness.  It made he want to gently stroke her, then break her wings….  eyes.  Celeste happily trotted upstairs, unaware of the seething storm in Kendric’s  As she rummaged through her closet for clothes, her gaze fell upon the safe resting on the side.  She opened it, took out all the thing inside and carried them over to Kendric’s study.  Chapte  He was having a video conference, so Celeste put the things on the floor,  gestured him and turned to leave.  But right as her hand touched the doorknob, a voice sounded from behind,  “stop. What’s that?”  “The jewelries you once gifted me. I’ve tidied them up, and they’re all

Chapter 68  Soon, Madelyn and Ophelia stomped angrily toward Celeste. Celeste’s gaze.  roamed from Madelyn’s bracelet to the diamond–studded necklace on Ophelia’s  neck.  “Did you two take my jewelries from my safe?”  Madelyn remained tight–lipped, showing no hint of remorse for taking  Celeste’s belongings.  While Ophelia touched the necklace around her neck with unease.  The day Celeste left Melville family, Madelyn immediately opened her safe. Ophelia was also there that day, and Madelyn invited her to pick out a few  pieces of jewelry she liked.  Unlike Melville family’s wealth, Bates family couldn’t afford to buy Ophelia a load of high–end luxury jewelry. So, she cheerfully took a few pieces of jewelry  from Celeste’s safe.  Seeing them silent, Celeste mocked, “steal my things but not dare admit?”  The word “steal” sounded harsh, and Madelyn snapped, “watch your  language! Where’s your manner?”  Celeste scoffed, “of course when it comes to manners, I can never match.  you two. Stealing someone else’s jewelry and then brazenly flaunting it. Good.  job!”  Madelyn’s face went pale, but she showed no remorse.  “We have lots of maids at home. Maybe someone else took ‘em. You should  check again.”  Redeemed From Caged Love  No thief could be bolder than them. Celeste marveled at their effrontery.  Madelyn was confident that Celeste wouldn’t dare to cause a scene here in Bates family. Besides, she had no evidence to prove they took her jewelries, since there were so many similar jewelries in the world.  Celeste shook her head, “you think I won’t dare to expose your behavior?”  She took out her phone and dialed the police.  Seeing her making the call, Ophelia grew scared.  “What are you doing?”  “Calling the cops.”  Ophelia turned even more fearful. She dashed toward Celeste and knocked  the phone out of her hand.  “You can’t call the police.”  Celeste staggered a step back due to the huge force, knocking into a nearby  garden rack. The vases on the rack tumbled to the ground, causing a crisp crash  that echoed through the entire garden.  Kendric was upstairs with Caden Bates when he heard the commotion.  “What’s happening?”  Luke promptly got up, “I’ll go check it out.”  Celeste’s waist bumped against the corner of the table. The huge pain made  her crouch down, unable to stand up.  Madelyn signaled for Ophelia to pick up the fallen phone. The call hadn’t  got through yet.  Redeemed From Caged Love  5401  Clapbret  Ophelia panicked, “w–what should we do?”  Nervous and fearful, Madelyn glanced at the shattered vase on the floor and  quickly suggested, “you lie down as well.”  Ophelia followed her words and feigned fainted on the ground.  Madelyn urgently called out, “call an ambulance quickly. Ophelia has  passed out.”  Gavin was the first to rush in. He cherished his sister the most. “What  happened?”  His eyes reddened when seeing the fainted Ophelia, “who did this?” 

Chapter 67  At eleven o’clock, they arrived at Bates family.  As soon as Kendric got out of the car, Gavin Bates, who had been standing  at the door, saw him. He approached, bypassing Celeste.  “Kendric, you’re finally here!”  Kendric held Celeste’s hand and greeted him with a slight nod.  They walked inside, and bumped into Ophelia Bates. When she saw Kendric  and Celeste’s holding hands, she was about to go mad with jealousy!  “Ken, Celeste, welcome!”  “Where’s your father?”  Ophelia softly pointed upstairs. “They’re upstairs.”  Kendric intended to usher Celeste upstairs, but she suddenly pulled apart  their intertwined hands.  Celeste said, “you go first. I want to have a chat with Ophelia.”  “Okay, come find me later.”  As Kendric ascended the stairs, Ophelia’s gentle disguise gradually collapsed.  Back when she and Celeste lived in Melville family, she never missed an opportunity to taunt Celeste. Her jibes and bullies to Celeste were sometimes blatant or sometimes covert.  Ophelia gave Celeste a head–to–toe sizing up, her gaze dripping with contempt.  Chapter 67  “What shabby dress you’re wearing! You’re truly embarrass Ken.”  Celeste wore just a diamond necklace today, and she didn’t bother with any  earrings.  Ophelia, on the other hand, was adorned in an all–white chiffon dress,  accentuated by a fox fur shawl.  But what caught Celeste’s eye was the gemstone necklace hanging around Ophelia neck–it looked familiar.  “I remember you swore you’d never come back once you moved out from Ken’s home? Why did you shamelessly come back now?”  Celeste corrected her, “it was Kendric who invited me back.”  Ophelia ground her teeth. “What’s there to be smug about? You’ll still be  driven out one day!”  Celeste smirked, “even if I move out, you won’t be moving in, that’s for  sure.”  Ophelia couldn’t help but feel a mix of envy and resentment towards  Celeste.  Celeste could effortlessly gain her dreaming position as Kendric’s fiancée,  while she had to please Madelyn to move in Melville family.  Ophelia was so furious that her face turned beet red. “Let’s wait and see.”  Celeste brushed past her and headed upstairs.  On the second floor.  Kendric was sitting to the left of Mr. Caden Bates. Celeste took a seat next to  Redeemed From Caged Love  Kendric.  Before long, everyone had arrived, and Gavin gave a brief introduction of  everyone.  When it came to Celeste, he hesitated for a moment and simply referred to  her as “Kendric’s girlfriend.”  The way he said “girlfriend” was dripping with contempt.  “Wife.”  Kendric stared at Gavin, “she’s my wife. Don’t make that mistake again.”  After a brief appearance on the upper floor, Celeste left Kendric and made 

Chapter 66  Celeste was blissfully unaware of what happened to Mary. After that heated argument with Kendric last time, he had reverted to his usual self.  Every couple of hours or so she would receive his phone call.  Celeste wished she could teleport through the phone to break his cellphone  into smithereens.  One evening, just after work, Kendric’s call was as punctual as ever. Celeste picked up the phone.  “I’m busy.”  “Gonna work late.”  “Takeout for dinner.”  She didn’t let him get a word in and promptly hung up. Half an hour later, a knock sounded on her office door.  cart.  Kendric was standing there, and beside was Luke who was wheeling a food  Celeste sighed.  Her office was a bit crowded and filled with all sorts of odds and ends. Kendric stepped in and frowned.  Celeste clear up her desk, then turned to see Kendric sitting on her cot.  Kendric spotted the sketches she’d left to the side and casually picked one up. “You drew these?”  “Yeah.”  Redeemed From Caged Love  Chacte  Out of the blue, Celeste’s phone started ringing. She took a quick look and  stepped out to answer it.  While she was away, Kendric snooped around her office, discovering all  sorts of weird things like a clock with wings and a strangely–shaped, barely  surviving cactus.  When Celeste returned, Kendric was still seated on her cot, as if he hadn’t  touched anything.  “After the wedding, Mary will leave,” he said.  Celeste was taken aback, “why?” then it suddenly dawn on her. “You already know, don’t you?”  “You don’t have to endure. Even if I didn’t know, in this family, you have right to handle anyone who wrongly treated you.”  Celeste lapsed into silence.  Suddenly, she recalled Cade’s words, that her having a sensitive character but a humble way of loving. Yeah, when she’d first arrived at Melville family at eighteen, she had been super cautious, always trying to please everyone.  In the end, she realized that the one she should respect and love the most was herself.  After dinner, Kendric was getting ready to leave. “I’ll pick you up tomorrow morning.”  “To where?”  “We’re going to pay a visit to Bates family.”  Redeemned From Caged Love  Celeste narrowed her eyes. “Gavin Bates and his family?”  “Exactly.”  H  She thought it over for a second and then agreed with a nod, “sure.”  Perhaps she’d agreed a bit too readily, Kendric’s gaze carried a hint of  surprise.  Early the next morning, when Kendric came to pick up Celeste, she had just woke up.  She ground her teeth and shoved her alarm clock right before him, “you kidding me? It’s only seven now!”  Kendric snatched the alarm clock from her, “yeah, right the time.”  He checked his watch. “I’ll give you another ten minutes.”  Caden’s 60th birthday banquet was attended by many big shots. What truly drew them was the fact that both Melville and Winters families were rarely gathering in an open occasion.  When talking about Kendric, they usually bring up another guy–Ezra Winters.  Both in their twenties, they’d assumed the roles of power players as soon as they came of age.  Celeste was brought away by Kendric to receive a complete makeover at the salon. She’d dozed off during the process, while Kendric handled his business  on the side. 

Chapter 65  Celeste stood still. Kendric shot her a quick glance before starting to  undress.  In no time, his shirt was off, revealing those chiseled abs.  He led a super disciplined life. Even with the crazy workload, he managed  to squeeze in time for boxing every week.  His muscles had the kind of definition that seemed like they were  hand–carved by an artist.  “Aren’t you coming over?” he raised his head.  Celeste stayed put.  Kendric seemed quite uncomfortable. He had been sick for over a week,  and he kept pressuring himself with work until he passed out. His body must’ve  been at its breaking point.  His voice still had a hint of that sickly hoarseness. “Come help me,” he said. Well, at least this time he used “help” rather than give a mere order.  “Can’t you add a ‘please‘?”  “Please.”  Celeste put down her bag, washed her hands, and then made her way over with a wet towel.  The moment she touched his body, she could feel the warmth of his skin. His back and chest were covered in a rash.  Redeemed From Caged Love  Chapter 65  Neither of them spoke.  Surprisingly, it was the most peaceful moment they’d spent together  recently.  Celeste wiped from his back all the way to his chest, and then abruptly  halted.  She tossed the towel on him, “wipe your chest yourself.” She crossed her  arms and stood to the side.  Kendric frowned.  “You’ve got hands, don’t you?” Celeste raised an eyebrow.  Seeing that Celeste had no intention of helping, Kendric grabbed the towel and started wiping. Unlike Celeste’s gentleness, his movement was rough and rude. The rashes on his body were already a shade of crimson, and his reckless rubbing only made them more prominent.  Celeste knew Kendric was doing this on purpose, but she remained  unfazed. “If you keep rubbing like that, your temperature might end up rising rather than cooling down later!”  Perhaps realizing that playing the sympathy card was useless, Kendric softened his tone slightly, “I’m worn–out. Help me.”  Celeste didn’t want to linger here any longer. “When will your assistant  arrive?”  Kendric gazed out of the window. “I don’t know. You can leave if you want. She picked up the towel, “I’ll help you. But call your assistant right now.”  Chapteres  Kendric didn’t say a word but grabbed his phone and called Luke.  She started wiping his body again. It felt like it had been a long time since.  they’d been this close.  “Celeste, shall we make up?”  Celeste halted her movement, and a hint of sarcasm welled up from deep  within.  “Kendric, do you think that after I’ve been throwing a fit for a couple of days, all it takes is a little sweet talk from you, and I’ll come running back to you?”  “You think what I’m doing now means I still have feelings for you? Even spending time here taking care of you signifies I’m shamelessly clinging to you?”  There was even a touch of bewilderment in Kendric’s eyes.  He couldn’t comprehend where Celeste’s fury came from.  He simply wanted to make up with her and put an end to the quarrel. He didn’t want Celeste to stay outside anymore.  “That’s not what I meant.”  Celeste sneered. “Then you look so down upon me that you believe we can reconcile when we’re in this state.”  “What state?”  “You’re asking me? Can’t you see? Can’t you feel it?”
