Chapter 94  In the days that followed, Kendric didn’t reach out to her again. All the  necessary paperwork had been completed, and the apartment she had rented  abroad was arranged in advance. Just as they had agreed that night, from the  day she returned from Breeze Town until the day she left, they didn’t met.  Kendric had sent a brief text message, “have a safe trip.” Celeste stared at it  for a while and eventually reserved this message.  The night before, she had a long chat with her father over the phone, who  gave her numerous instructions. Sienna stayed over with her, sobbing in her  arms until midnight, so the next morning Celeste feared she might cry all the way to the airport, and she firmly declined Sienna’s offer to accompany her.  As for Manuel, he was away on a business trip and had called her the  previous night. In the conversation, his mood was far from cheerful.  Celeste passed through security and boarded the plane. As the flight took off, she closed her eyes.  Three months later.  On both banks of the river, trees line the streets, and behind them stand ancient and majestic buildings. Celeste’s school is situated nearby.  Every morning, she walks through this avenue.  “Celeste, you’re late again.”  Eulalie slapped her watch on the desk, her arms folded.  Eulalie McCartney was Celeste’s first friend abroad. However, Eulalie had a  Clact94  somewhat aloof character. When Celeste fist initiated a conversation, Eulalie  scrutinized her for a long time before expressionlessly stating her phone  number.  Regardless, Celeste was captivated by her temperament from their very  first meeting.  After three months, they became friends. Celeste could tell that Eulalie  came from a well–off family. Many of the brands she wore were the luxury  brands that Kendric had ever bought Celeste.  Celeste quickly shook off the name Kendric that had suddenly emerged in  her mind.  “Why don’t you buy a car?” Eulalie asked, munching on the sandwich Celeste had brought to her.  Celeste’s apartment was a forty–minute walk away from here.  “Because I’m poor,” she replied.  Whenever she mentioned the word ‘poor,‘ Eulalie would observe her from head to toe with a skeptical gaze.  Celeste met her stares. “Would I need to show my empty pocket to prove myself?”  Eulalie fell into a thoughtful silence, quietly eating her breakfast.  Christmas was just around the corner, and with the school break about to commence, everyone’s excitement was palpable. In today’s class, before the professors had arrived, Celeste seized the opportunity to brainstorm the storyline and characters of her comics. She drew the sketches on the paper.  Eulalie glanced over, “you’re wasting your time,” she commented  nonchalantly.  “Well, Miss Rich, I need to earn my living. Without drawing, how would I  afford my meals?”  Eulalie never believed Celeste would be short of money. After all, she was  Kendric’s fiancée. He wouldn’t allow his fiancée to live a hard life.  After the morning classes, they found a bench outside and settled down for lunch. Celeste had packed sandwiches, jam, fruits, and yogurt. Eulalie, on the other hand, enjoyed her favorite eggs benedict.  too.”  Celeste murmured, “you remind me of a friend of mine. He loves this dish  Eulalie’s eyes flickered with curiosity. It was the first time she had heard. Celeste mention Kendric  “Who’s he?” she feigned ignorance.  […]

Chapter 93  After their meal, Kendric offered to walk her home.  Celeste waved him off, “no, thanks.”  “You sure you’ll be fine?”  “Do you have other plans?” Celeste asked.  “How about having a walk with me?”  Celeste agreed. She had some words for him, too.  The summer evening breeze brushed lightly against them. Willow trees by  the river swayed gracefully, their branches skimming the water’s surface.  “You really don’t have to put on heart what they said,” he said.  Celeste tentatively asked, “are you… trying to comfort me?”  The moment this thought slipped out, Celeste couldn’t help but find it  amusing.  “Forget it… How could that even be possible…”  “Yes,” he said. His eyes glinted even more than the lake.  “I was trying to comfort you.”  Celeste’s heart skipped a beat. In his eyes, she seemed to have seen a star–studded sky.  She remembered her father’s advice- a man who truly loves you has no way to feign indifference because love can’t be hide. Real affection should be tender. When his gaze rested upon you, you’ll feel like gaining the whole world.  Celeste had thought Kendric would never understand what tenderness  meant. Not until tonight did she realize – it only depends on whether he wants  or not.  But his tenderness came too late, when they had parted ways, when their  relationship had settled into dust.  Under the moonlight, he said, “I love you.”  It felt like a powerful electric current struck on her heart. But rationality  kept reminding her of her initial determination to leave.  “Kendric, I insisted on breaking up with you… aside from the harsh  treatment I gained from your family, there was another reason.”  “What was it?”  Celeste had never imagined that one day she would be calmly discussing these matters with Kendric.  “The second reason is that all the time, I never felt like you loved me.”  “Actually, it wasn’t always like this. At least at first, we had happy times together.”  “Do you remember the first winter I spent at your home… Because I had never seen snow where I grew up, I kept looking forward to experiencing the first snowfall with you.”  A bitter smile played on her lips. “But that year, it just didn’t snow. You saw how anxious I was waiting for it, so you took me to Norway. We built snowmen and had snowball fights. You even taught me how to ski.”  “Kendric, those days were so good and sweet that I kept loving you all these  years.”  “Later, as you took charge of your family business, your ambitions grew, and the time we could spend together became less and less.”  “You know the longest we’ve gone without seeing each other in these eight  years?”  Kendric furrowed his brow deeply. “How long?”  “Six months and eight days.”  “Kendric, I have started considering this breaking up three years ago.”  “You were like a toxin flowing through my body. It took me whole three  years to remove you from my bones, my blood, my veins, from every part of  “I took three years to make this decision, so Kendric…  “It won’t be changed by a few of your actions now. Even now, your glances or certain gestures might still move me, but deep down, I know that forgetting  you is my way out. Leaving you is the only path to my true self.”  Kendric hung his head down. He was drown deep in self–doubt.  “Did I truly neglect you to that point before?”  “You didn’t neglect me on purpose. But because you didn’t value me, others treated me with disrespect.” 

Chapter 92  In the afternoon, when Cade returned, Kendric left with him. Celeste didn’t  inquire him about where he was going.  The class reunion was scheduled for the evening. In the afternoon, she took  out ta dress from her suitcase and meticulously ironed it.  She chose a light grass–green dress, with a beautiful pearly lustre. Around  her neck hung a sparkling necklace, and on her wrist was a platinum watch.  Around five o’clock p.m., she was in the yard tending to the grapevine. The front gate stood ajar, and a group of people entered from outside.  It was Della, Anna and some of other classmates.  Anna wore an off–shoulder dress with a puff sleeve design, paired with high  heels.  “Celeste, I know you don’t have a car, so I came to pick you up,” she said.  Celeste set down the insect repellent spray she was holding. “Thank you.”  “It’s almost time. Why haven’t you changed your clothes yet? You’re not planning to go out in this outfit, are you?” Anna tittered.  “Just give me five minutes,” she said and walked inside.  Outside, the group chatted leisurely under the grapevine.  “Damn! Celeste is gorgeous.”  “Is that so? But she’s so unkempt, wearing her pajamas and walking around outside, Anna’s tone was tinged with jealousy.  At the hotel, Anna confidently led the way in her high heels. She  immediately caught everyone’s attention upon entering. She stood proudly at  the entrance for a moment before finally stepping inside.  When Celeste entered, everyone was taken aback. They quickly invited her  to join them at the table.  Suddenly, someone brought up the topic again, “hey, most of us from our  class are married, aren’t we?”  All eyes turned to Celeste.  Meeting their curious gazes, Celeste calmly stated, “I’m not married.”  Instantly, a wave of gossip swept through the room. They couldn’t hide their curiosity. “Celeste, you don’t have a boyfriend? Then when are planning to get married?”  Celeste smiled, “I don’t want to get married.”  A classmate laughed, “then you’ll be a lonely granny when you get old, ha.”  Celeste frowned, “is that any of your business?” She had been subjected to too much ill will lately, so her patience was wearing thin.  After a moment, she added, “I’m sorry.”  Everyone exchanged glances. “Celeste, don’t be upset. We’re genuinely out of concerns.”  Celeste sneered, “concerns? By prying into my marriage… I don’t believe it’s genuine concern. I think you’re quite happy embarrassing me, aren’t you?”  Anna, irritated by Celeste’s tone, retorted, “we are genuinely concerned. We  Chapter42  introduced you to some good men. Why are you mad at us? You pathetic gold.  digger!”  A cold sneer pierced the hushed atmosphere.  Celeste was sitting with her back to the door, but as she turned, she spotted  Kendric standing right behind her.  “What are you doing here?” she said, and everyone immediately realized.  that the man came for her.  “Excuse me, who are you?” All eyes darted between them.  Kendric took a step forward. Celeste couldn’t shake off the strange feeling.  She had thought she had to face this alone, and swallow these mockery. But Kendric’s arrival offered her the feeling of safety.  Kendric gave her a brief glance. After a second of eye contact, an unspoken understanding passed between them.  His hand rested on her shoulder, “Kendric Melville, Celeste’s fiancé,” he  announced.  His words hit the crowd like a ton of bricks, shattering their smugness and arrogance. They had wished to witness her current pitiful state, but now…. 

Chapter 91  Only the man who was thoroughly intoxicated had spoke rudely. However,  the others felt they couldn’t cruelly abandon him here.  Kendric glanced at his watch. “I’ll give you five second, you can choose to  stay and keep him company, or leave now.”  Three seconds later, only the drunken man was dumped on the floor.  Myles hadn’t uttered a word yet, but Kendric seemed to have guessed what  he was about to say.  “Rest assured, Mr. Alinsky. I am a reasonable person. Anyone who speaks out of line should bear the consequences. I won’t involve others. Besides, Cade. has received professional training and I promise he won’t accidentally kill or mutilate him.”  “Is that acceptable to you?”  What else could Myles say? It was only fair to punish this intoxicated person, who spouted nonsense to his cherished daughter.  The drunkard had been exceedingly audacious just moments ago, but now he was as timid as a mouse, lying on the ground feigning faintness.  Kendric motioned Cade, “wake him up.”  Cade was strong enough to lift the fat man from the ground and tossed him into the courtyard.  him.  A garden hose lay in the courtyard, and Cade directly sprayed cold water on  Celeste and Myles watched in astonishment from inside.  Kendric glanced at the leftovers on the table, “you cooked these?”  Celeste nodded.  Kendric politely addressed Myles, “Mr. Alinsky, I haven’t had lunch yet. I  hope you don’t mind my intrusion.”  Myles‘ face turned stern. He glared at the composed Kendric and then at  Celeste, who appeared guilty.  “Don’t look at me that way, dad. I really have no idea that he would come!”  Myles shot her a glare. “Come upstairs with me!”  Celeste trailed behind Myles, her head hung low. Outside, screams echoed incessantly, while Kendric was calmly eating the meal cooked by Celeste.  Myles was irate with Celeste this time, “why did he come? Are you two back together?”  “No, no dad! I didn’t know he was coming today.”  Myles eyed her skeptically, “it’s not that you invited him?”  She shook her head, “since we broke up, I’ve never approached him. Though we’ve bumped into each other a few times, it was always he…” She trailed off, realizing that she had just blurted out the truth.  “You’ve met him before?” Myles’s anger grew.  Previously, Celeste hadn’t told her father about her being stranded alone in the hotel during the hurricane. Now, she had no choice but to reveal everything in detail.  Myles fell silent for a moment, “so, you’ve been in touch after the breakup?  Chapter  He even went out in a hurricane to save you?”  Celeste nodded. “Dad, I swear I have no intention of getting back with him.  It’s purely… a coincidence that we encountered each other.”  Myles saw through Kendric’s tricks at a glance. “Coincidence? I suspect it  was all orchestrated by himself! You keep falling into his traps, how naive of  you.”  H  Then dad, I’ll kick him out right now.”  She turned to go downstairs, but Myles stopped her with a stern command,  “come back!”  Myles gritted his teeth. It was the first time he realized how cunning Kendric could be. He had traveled all the way here. Moreover, he had helped Celeste multiple times before. Objectively speaking, they could not just rudely drive him away!  “Let him stay for a meal, then drive him away.”  Celeste nodded. “Got it.”  Myles was frustrated to the point of a headache. He shut his own door, out of sight, out of mind. 

Chapter 90  “It’s me.”  “I know.”  “Why didn’t you come today?”  “Huh?” Celeste glanced at the calender and suddenly remembered that  today was his birthday.  She sincerely conveyed her best wishes, “happy birthday!”  There was a short silence. “Actually, you don’t remember that today is my  birthday, do you?”  “Well, yes.”  Her admission was too straightforward, leaving him feeling inexplicably  frustrated.  Yes, he was frustrated.  Since this morning, he had been wholeheartedly waiting for her gift. He had never looked forward to receive a gift so eagerly before.  a bit.  But now the fire in his heart was smothered, and couldn’t be reignited even  He forced a bitter smile. “I should have expected it earlier… that you  won’t…”  “You have anything else to say?” she asked.  “…no.”  “Okay, then I’m hanging up. It’s late.”  Just a moment before she hung up, he threw out the last question, “if you  aven’t forgotten, will you come?”  “…I’m in Breeze Town.”  She gave herself an excuse, even though it sounded a bit perfunctory. She  lidn’t care if he believed it or not. At least it was an explanation for him.  “Is that so?”  “Otherwise? My ticket home was booked weeks ago. I genuinely didn’t  notice it was your birthday today.”  She added, “besides, with so many people celebrating your birthday every  year. It won’t make a difference with me attending or not.”  “When are you coming back?” he inquired.  “Maybe next week. I have a classmate reunion to attend this weekend  “A classmate reunion?” Kendric found the term novel and interesting  ***  The high school reunion was scheduled for Sunday night.  Soon, it was Sunday morning. Around noon, Myles invited some of his close friends over for lunch.  To make her father happy, Celeste suggested that she cooked the lunch.  At noon, Myles and his friends went fishing, while Celeste prepared lunch at home.  When they came back, a lavish spread was already placed on the table, and  her father’s friends showered her with praises.  The atmosphere was jovial for a while, and Myles, too, felt a sense of  contentment.  However, as the conversation flowed, the subject of their topic somehow.  shifted to Celeste.  “Celeste, you’re 26 now, aren’t you?” one of them inquired. “You’re not  young anymore. It’s time to get married. My daughter is around your age, and  she got married last year.”  Celeste managed a faint smile. “Well, congratulations to her then.”  “Girls eventually need to find a man to marry. You’ve been in the city for so  long, and you haven’t found a suitable match yet. You might as well stay at the  town, find a good husband, and live a peaceful life.” 

Chapter 89  Today’s Kendric’s birthday.  Madelyn, butler Kash, and Mary were all sent away from this city. Despite  this, Kendric’s birthday party was still attended by many important guests,  making it a lively affair.  Days before his birthday, gifts from various people started arriving. Some  even visited in person. The new butler got up early in the morning and started.  recording the list of gifts.  He meticulously counted the birthday gifts, listed them in the register, and then presented the register to Kendric.  Kendric quickly scanned it, but then frowned, “have all the gifts been  listed?”  The butler nodded, “yes, sir. All the gifts we received are listed.” He then  stood silently, awaiting Kendric’s instructions.  Kendric seemed somewhat doubtful of his capabilities, so he called Cade over, instructing him, “personally verify all the gifts.”  The new butler felt slighted. He had been working as a butler for a considerable time, and how could he not manage such a trivial matter properly? Despite his frustration, he dared not voice his doubts.  After leaving the study, he went for Cade, “Mr. Melville… Is there something unsatisfactory about my work?”  Cade gave him a reassuring look, “no. It’s not that you didn’t perform well. It’s just…” He sighed, “forget it. It’s hard to explain.”  can’t get my work done well.”  They searched a quiet corner outside the courtyard.  The butler lit a cigarette for Cade. Cade patted on his shoulder, “you know  why did the boss focus so intently on the gift list?”  The butler shook his head.  “He’s waiting for a gift.”  www  “Wait for a gift? What kind of gift could make him so eager?”  “What matters isn’t the gift itself…”  The butler was even more confused, “so, what kind of gift is he waiting for? I’ll keep an eye out.”  Cade took a long drag on his cigarette. “Hard to say. We’ll only know when she sends it.”  The birthday party was set for eight o’clock. Prior to that, Kendric briefly met a few important guests in his study. The butler was attending to the guests diligently.  In the evening, Kendric put on his black suit, paired with a white shirt and a striped tie.  At seven o’clock, the banquet started. By eight o’clock, the gates were closed, and they concluded the gift–receiving section. When Cade brought in the gift registry, Kendric was toasting and engaging in conversation with several guests. He excused himself and left as he caught a glimpse of Cade.  Cade promptly handed over the gift registry. “we received a total of 659  congratulatory gifts.”  Kendric scrutinized each gifter. Cade opened his mouth, hesitated, but  didn’t tell the truth that there’s not a gift from Celeste.  When Kendric reached the last page, his expression changed entirely. He  slammed the gift registry back into Cade’s hands.  In the twilight, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Celeste ventured outside. Along the way, she encountered many familiar faces/Some greeted her warmly, while others intentionally inquired if she was married.  Celeste replied them with a smile, “not yet.”  She leisurely made her way back home beneath the fading hues of the sunset. When passing a flower shop, she purchased a large bouquet of  sunflowers.  By the time Myles returned, Celeste had already prepared dinner. He sounded surprise, “Cely, you cooked all of dishes?”  Celeste was washing the berries in a bowl. “Of course. Dad, come and have a taste. I’m sure  you’d like it.”  Celeste had been contemplating how to tell her father about her plans to study abroad.  She was afraid that he wouldn’t agree. Then she realized that her father’s only concern was her ability to care for herself alone in a foreign land. So, she specially cooked this dinner.  As expected, Myles couldn’t stop praising her culinary skills.  “Dad, I’m leaving for abroad next month.”  Myles’s smile froze on face, “why?”  After Celeste explained her intention to study abroad, Myles fell silent for a  while but did not object. 

Chapter 88  “See?” Ezra smiled, “sometimes patience can win hearts more effectively  than anger.”  “I know.”  He knew his bad temper was always a problem. If he had lost control, he’d  only push her further away.  Celeste always kept him away from her families and friends. Even today,  from the start, she had been fearing Kendric might lose his temper and  embarrass her.  But none of that happened, and Celeste’s attitude slowly changed.  Looking back, maybe her initial dislike for him came from this–because he  couldn’t control himself, always letting his temper dominate and forcing it upon  her.  “It won’t be knotty to range against Vader family, but you better not  interfere.”  Kendric had no intention. After all, Celeste’s attitude towards Vaders was  clear to him.  Ezra added, “Manuel reached his current position at this young age. He has  a promising future.” Then his tone turned unusually serious, “his father’s about to start campaigning for mayor. Said to have a good chance of winning.”  “Confirmed?”  Ezra shrugged, “Not yet. I heard it from my uncle during my last visit home.”  Chapter68  Ezra’s uncle held a high position in the municipal government, so the information he heard was likely reliable.  Kendric glanced at him, “your uncle is also on the candidate list, isn’t he?”  Ezra hadn’t expected him to figure it out so quickly. “Damn, man, I really can’t hide anything from you.”  Kendric lightly tapped the table with his finger, “need help?”  Ezra waved his hand. “Not for now.”  Kendric pondered, “who on earth has been supporting Vader family in the campaign?”  “I heard it’s the McCartney.”  Kendric was slightly surprised. “McCartney? Why?”  Ezra smirked. “It’s said they yearn for a alliance by marriage with the  Vader. Manuel and the eldest daughter of the McCartney…”  “Manuel? Will he be willing to compromise?”  Ezra shrugged. “Who knows? Not everyone is as luck and free as you that can marry whoever they want.”  ***  Upon returning to their table, Manuel quickly apologized to Celeste.  Celeste shook her head, “it’s okay, really. Manuel, Sienna and I are friends. You, in my heart, are like a brother, and that’s never going to change.”  The subtext under her words couldn’t be more clear.  Chapter 8  Manuel ruffled her hair, “I got it.”  Sienna didn’t dare say anything more and buried her sadness in food.  In the next two days, Celeste was busy packing her things and preparing  her documents for studying abroad. When everything was ready, she went back  to her hometown.  When Celeste got home, Myles hadn’t returned from his work yet. After  putting her luggage down, she started cleaning up the courtyard.  Her bedroom was just as she left it, with posters on the walls and comics.  neatly stacked on the bookshelf. She made her bed, pulled back the curtains, letting sunlight flood the room. She sat quietly on the bed, feeling like she had  traveled back to her childhood.  In her childhood, she was much happier than now. She had friends at school, and she was cherished by her father at home. In her free time, she played with her friends or painted at home. Those joyful memories were so  precious. 

Chapter 87  “Sienna, she asked me to treat for a meal, but I thought it’s pricey and  scolded her a bit.”  Manuel immediately caught on this wasn’t a coincidence, but  intentionally arranged by Sienna to bring them together.  He playfully gave Sienna’s ear a tweak, “you have the audacity!”  Sienna pouted – she was doing it all for him! What an ungrateful brother!  As they took their seats, the waiter handed them the menu:  Manuel’s shirt sleeves were rolled up, and Celeste noticed a long scar  running from his elbow to the back of his hand, about twenty centimeters long.  “God, Manuel, what happened to your hand?!”  Manuel lowered his sleeve, “nothing.”  Sienna couldn’t resist chiming in, “it was during that hurricane…”  But Manuel swiftly hushed her, “Sienna!”  Sienna insisted, “during the hurricane, you were stuck in the hotel. When I  called you, actually Manuel was already on his way to find you… and then he had a car accident.”  “Manuel, you didn’t tell me…”  Manuel reassured her, “don’t worry, Cely, it’s not serious.”  Celeste felt a weight in her chest.  She stood up, suggesting, “the garden outside looks lovely. Manuel, how  about we take a stroll?”  Manuel nodded and followed her.  In the quiet garden, Celeste took her seat on a bench.  Manuel stood, his gaze on her. After a while, he broke the silence, “are you  really that scared of me?”  Celeste hadn’t expected such straightforwardness and quickly denied, “of course not.”  “No? Then why have you been avoiding me?”  Celeste’s avoiding his feelings had been an unspoken agreement between them. Manuel had never insisted on this topic so persistently before.  She sighed, “I haven’t.”  He chuckled, “I won’t do anything to you. I respect your will.”  Celeste was grateful he wasn’t making things more awkward. “Thank you.”  “But…”  He changed the tone, “we’re both unmarried. I have the chance to chase after you.”  His words made her feel uneasy, “Manuel, I…”  Manuel interrupted, “what? do you still have feelings for him?”  Celeste shook her head quickly, “of course not!”  He smiled, “then I get it.”  Celeste was about to explain further when a sudden noise pierced the air  Redeemed From Canelle  the sound of shattering glass, like a glass hitting the floor.  Manuel’s expression changed, and he looked in the direction where noise.  came from.  Only then did Celeste notice that, hidden behind the dense bushes, there  were people sitting across from them.  Kendric had recognized Celeste’s voice from the moment she spoke her first  words.  He was a frequent visitor to this restaurant, and today, Ezra had arranged a  meeting with some clients here for lunch.  But shortly after sitting down, they they found Celeste… and Manuel.  Celeste was shocked to see him here. What a bad luck!  Celeste was afraid of any conflicts, “Manuel, Sienna’s still waiting us. We better go back now.” 

Chapter 86  The next morning, Celeste was awakened by glaring sunlight shining  through the curtains. The rain had stopped, and the golden sun hung high in the  clear blue sky.  When she was in a call with Sienna, Kendric wheeled a dining cart into the  room.  He parked the cart beside the bed and signaled for Celeste to come and eat.  She pointed at the phone, indicating she’d join in shortly.  “Yeah, the rain’s stopped, and the flood outside is slowly receding.”  “Don’t worry, Sienna, I’m okay.”  “What! You mean your brother is also here? Right in this city?”  Just then, Kendric raised his voice, “time for breakfast!”  Sienna was scared by the sudden male voice coming from Celeste’s side.  “Celeste, who’s with you?”  Celeste glanced at Kendric, who sported a sly grin and walked away  contentedly.  She wasn’t good at fibbing, especially to someone close. “Kendric.”  Sienna gasped and then let out a scream, “how did you end up with him again?”  It’s hard to explain. Celeste couldn’t just shoo him away after what happened last night.  “No, it’s just… just a coincidence. This is a bit of a long story.”  “You just shook him off. How can you stay in the same room with him  again? You know what he’s like, especially after you turned him down in front  of everyone. He won’t just let you off the hook. Who knows what tricks he might  be plotting!”  Celeste stole a glance at Kendric, who had a stern face.  She interrupted Sienna, “it’s not like what you’re thinking, I’ll explain it  when I get back.”  Then, she hung up.  Kendric was quietly preparing breakfast with his head down. “The  breakfast is ready. Take your seat.”  Celeste sat down, feeling uneasy and guilty.  To be honest, Kendric had indeed lent her a hand this time. Even if those  words didn’t come  directly from her, since Sienna was her friend, she had  responsibility to offer apology.  “I apologize to you on Sienna’s behalf,” she said with unease, not exactly scared but rather feeling somewhat embarrassed.  Kendric frowned.  In the past, Celeste had a bag of tricks to lift his spirits, like pecking his cheek or teasing his newly grown stubble. Her getting a tad closer to him usually put him in a better mood.  But now, she had no intention of trying to please him in that way anymore.  A frosty silence hung in the air.  Chapterse  Celeste took a bite of her food. Unexpectedly, tears welled up due to the  spicy pepper.  Kendric handed a paper tissue over. “I’m fine, don’t cry.”  Celeste coughed even more.  After breakfast, the people Kendric had arranged to pick them up arrived.  When Cade entered, he flashed a meaningful smile at Celeste.  Kendric instructed Cade to take Celeste home while he would head to the  airport. Celeste didn’t want to trouble him and said she’d book a train ticket.  However, Kendric insisted on Cade personally driving her back.  He specially told Cade, “don’t hang around here. Leave as early as  possible.”  On the way back, Cade eyed Celeste through the rear–view mirror from time 

Chapter 85  Kendric waved to her, motioning for her to step aside. Then, he grabbed a  rope and climbed up to the second floor.  He brought a small yet heavy suitcase.  Kendric took off his raincoat. Celeste noticed that all his clothes beneath  were completely soaked.  His shirt was now damp and plastered to his chest, accentuating his  muscular shape. Below, his pants also clung snugly to his thighs.  “Why did you come ?”  Celeste brought him back to her room and handed him a dry towel.  Kendric unbuttoned his shirt and stepped out of his suit pants right in front  of her. Celeste turned away, avoiding any eye contact with him.  Kendric dried himself off, wrapped a bath towel around his lower body, and walked out directly. He pulled Celeste close and gave her a thorough once–over.  “Did you get hurt?”  She shook her head. “No, I checked in this morning, and then I fell asleep until around four. I didn’t go out after then…you came rushing here because you were worried I might be hurt?”  Kendric exhaled a breath of relief. “Yeah, this hurricane has caused some casualties here. I brought you some food and medical supplies.”  Celeste opened the suitcase and took out the food. Inside were six  lunchboxes, and to her surprise, they were still warm.  Redeemed From Caged Love  There was a set of her change of clothes and another set of undergarments.  “You prepared all of this?”  “Who else could it be?”  Celeste couldn’t quite figure out Kendric’s intentions. She gazed at him with  a hint of skepticism.  Kendric handed over a lunchbox to her, “here you are.”  “I mean…”  “Celeste, there are a lot of things that, I didn’t know how to do in the past.  I’ll learn from now on.”  “Like what?”  He wore a more serious look, “like, taking care of you.”  *Kendric, what on earth do you want from me?”  A bitter smile tugged at his lips. “What else could I possibly want..  The candlelight appeared to pick up on the tension between them, and the small flame flickered restlessly  He looked into her eyes and said word by word. “Celeste, I’m sorry.  Celeste couldn’t believe her ears.  She had never imagined that one day Kendric would offer an apology.  The atmosphere descended into quietness.  Her current expression was definitely not what Kendric had expected. His heart beat faster and faster.  hapteres  “Kendric, what’s been going on with you lately? All of these are definitely  not the things you would do in the past.”  Kendric had never been this patient and attentive before. Now, what was  his? After their breakup, he was like suddenly changed into another person.  “Just as you said, it was the past. Now I’ve made changes.“.  Back when they had just broken up, she always felt this sense of restraint  around Kendric. But now, at least, she could face this man with a calm and  composed heart.  “I accept your apology,” she said.  Kendric bent down slightly. He reached out to touch her cheek, but feared  that she might dislike this intimate behavior.
