Chapter 47 Do You Have Regrets?  Lily frowned.  “Calista, about this matter…  At this moment, her phone rang, undoubtedly saving her from the situation. She took a couple of steps away and answered the call. Soon, she briskly returned.  “Calista, I’m sorry. I was wrong about today’s matter. The problem with the painting occurred while it was in my hands.”  Calista was perplexed about why Lily suddenly changed her stance after taking a call.  Lily turned on the speakerphone on her phone and said, “Repeat what you just told me.”  Queenie’s voice came through the phone, “Lily, I’m sorry. I spilled some water on the painting and wiped it off quickly. I was about to tell you about it but got busy and forgot. Is that painting important?”  Hearing this, Calista raised an eyebrow.  “That’s quite a coincidence. Miss Scott and I were discussing this matter, and your call came in.”  Her words implied something else, and anyone could pick up on it.  “Miss Everhart, this is my mistake. If you want to blame anyone, blame me. It has nothing to do with Lily.”  “Alright then, let’s leave it at that.”  Since Queenie was willing to take responsibility, there was no need for Calista to press on the matter.  Lily had enough humiliation for today, and if Calista refused to let this matter go, it might make Lily appear pitiful and garner sympathy.  Lily hadn’t quite grasped the situation. Calista held Selena’s hand and left to attend to the guests,  leaving Lily behind. The commotion finally came to an end.  Lucian watched as Seléna and Calista laughed and chatted away. He was about to approach them  when he noticed Paul’s gaze fixed on Calista.  1/5  +15 BONUS  He hesitated before asking, “What? Do you have regrets?”  Paul snapped out of his thoughts, looking puzzled.  “Regrets about what?”  “Regret that you didn’t agree to marry her when she approached you back then.”  Paul chuckled softly at the hint of jealousy in Lucian’s words. It was rare to hear Lucian speak to  him in such a tone.  Paul seemed intrigued and joked, “You have a point there. If I had considered it back then, she  might be Mrs. Baker now, don’t you think?”  Lucian looked at him. Paul seemed indifferent, yet there seemed to be something slightly  different about him.  His gaze turned to the wristwatch partially hidden by Paul’s sleeve.  For some reason, Lucian suddenly laughed, “Well then, I should thank this watch.”  Paul glanced at the watch on his wrist.  “What’s special about this watch?”  He took it off and examined it closely. Apart from being expensive, there was nothing particularly  remarkable about it.  Coincidentally, Calista, who happened to be passing by, overheard their conversation. She  widened her eyes when she heard the watch being mentioned.  […]

Chapter 46 It Was For Her Sake  Lucian frowned, “Choose the right occasion to make a scene. Today’s dinner isn’t suitable for your antics. Both my mother and the Northwood family can’t afford to be embarrassed.”  Calista chuckled in exasperation. “Are you concerned about Mom and the Northwood family, or are you worried about Lily? If I leave, everyone will say I’m guilty. By tomorrow, everyone will know that I …”  She paused momentarily before continuing, “Claude’s skills aren’t up to par. They’d say that her works are flawed and she’s a fraud!”  For some reason, she didn’t want Lucian to know she was Claude. And he didn’t need to know either.  “So, what do you want? You want to fix that painting? Do you think you, a janitor, learned the skills just by watching for a few days?”  Lucian was unfamiliar with the conservator industry. He hadn’t heard of Claude. He’d assumed she was just another employee of Justa Workshop.  To him, Calista was a janitor at the antique restoration studio. This was reported to him after a thorough investigation by David. His capabilities were unquestionable. It was impossible he would make a mistake with such small manners.  Lucian sighed. “Calista, how will you restore it? By using a broom?”  He wasn’t looking down on her. However, different professionals had their respective areas of expertise. Not everything could be learned through observation.  Who else would he be doing this for?  He was using the excuse of asking her to leave so she wouldn’t create a mess and embarrass  herself. Nobody would say much about the Northwood family, but it would be a different story for  Calista.  Although they had obtained their marriage certificate, they hadn’t held a wedding yet. They had  only announced their relationship today. The media would drag her through the mud if she were  to ruin a famous painting.  “Don’t you have better things to do than worry about how I will restore it? You might as well worry  1/4  +15 BONUS  humiliated later.”  Lucian frowned. He tried to be rational with her, but she kept bringing Lily up.  “Don’t bring her up. It’s Claude’s responsibility if the painting isn’t restored well. You don’t need to bear the burden of her mistakes.”  Calista clicked her tongue. She couldn’t believe Lucian would blindly believe what Lily had said.  Looking at Calista’s fierce gaze, Lucian softened his tone. “Be reasonable. I’m doing this for your sake.”  Calista sneered and retorted, “Are you hearing yourself?”  “Madam Calista, I’ve prepared everything you requested,” Macy said from downstairs, interrupting their argument.  Calista ignored Lucian and responded, “Alright. Thank you, Macy.”  In the living room, the painting was laid out on a table, with the items Calista had requested placed beside it.  Others were also concerned with what was happening and gathered to watch the spectacle.  The painting was only damaged slightly at the lower right corner. Calista was confident she could fix it in a short time. 

Chapter 45 She’s A Fraud  Lily stood in the distance, embarrassed as she watched their harmonious interaction. She looked up at Lucie She noticed his gaze was fixed on Calista. Bitterness gnawed at her as he watched  them.  But she quickly suppressed her emotions. She smiled as she interrupted them, trying to catch  Selena’s attention.  “Happy Birthday! This is a small token of my regards. I hope you like it.”  Selena glanced at Lily and nodded. “Thank you. You’re very thoughtful.”  After receiving the gift, Selena placed it on the nearby table: She had no intention of opening it.”  The dining area is over there. Help yourself. Don’t be shy.”  That was her telling Lily to move aside and stop being a nuisance.  Lily could detect the underlying tone. Yet, she acted like she hadn’t noticed.  She worked hard to prepare the gift and couldn’t let it be dismissed. If Selena didn’t open it now,  its fate after the event would be uncertain.  “How about you open it now? I’m unfamiliar with this stuff. If there’s an issue, we can fix it  promptly,” Lily suggested.  At this point, if Selena continued to brush it off, the situation would become a joke.  Though Selena was annoyed with Lily, she maintained a polite smile. She reluctantly opened the gift box. Inside was a wooden box. Selena subtly took a breath. She was thinking of kicking Lily  out if there was another box inside.  She opened the wooden box, revealing a painting.  Selena unrolled the painting. She wasn’t a fan of paintings. Yet, there was a glimmer in her eyes  upon seeing it. Even Henry raised an eyebrow. “Is this the old painting from before?”  Lily replied, “Yes.”  Henry nodded in satisfaction. “Good job. Let me know how much it costs. I’ll have Lucian transfer  the money to you.”  1/4  +15 BONUS  “Money isn’t the issue. It was tough to find the conservator. This person is known for being elusive in the industry, rarely taking jobs. That’s why the restoration took so long.”  “Restoration artists with skill tend to be quite peculiar. It’s normal. It must have been difficult for you,” Heary remarked.  Calista noticed that Selena was still staring at the painting. From Henry’s remarks, she inferred that the painting belonged to the Northwood family. But Lily had taken it for restoration.  “Do you like these things?”  “Not really, but Lucian’s grandfather does. He acquired this painting at an auction years ago. However, things got heated after a quarrel between your dad and me.  “As a result, the painting was accidentally damaged. Ms. Scott said she could find someone to help restore it. So, I entrusted it to her,” Selena explained as she revealed the painting fully.  Henry interjected with a teasing tone, “It was more than heated. Grandfather’s study was nearly destroyed. My bruises took half a month to heal.”  “You deserved it,” Selena retorted. Her tone turned serious as she continued to ask, “Ms. Scott, how much did you spend to restore this painting?”  Lily felt confused by Selena’s change in demeanor. She answered her question and asked, “What’s the matter?”  “You must have been cheated. This person isn’t really an expert, is she?”  Calista frowned. It wasn’t because of Selena’s words, but there was a smudge in the corner of the  painting. It wasn’t large, but it was quite noticeable.  Lily also noticed it, and her immediate reaction was to look at Calista.  “Isn’t Claude an expert in the field? How did this happen? How could the restoration turn out like  this?” 

Chapter 44 Mr. Northwood Is Married  Lily’s eyes widened in shock when she saw Calista and Lucian enter the living room together. She thought Calisa might come tonight. After all, it was Selena’s birthday. She’d assumed Lucian would not want to reveal their relationship, so he might stop Calista from coming.  However, she didn’t expect Calista to come holding Lucian’s arms. It was as if she was declaring their intimate relationship.  Everyone’s gaze shifted between Calista and Lily. Before Calista’s arrival, everyone had learned of Lily’s attendance. They were certain that Lily and Lucian’s relationship was at the point of marriage. But now, a different woman was by Lucian’s side.  Lily could feel the crowd’s intense gaze on her, and her face flushed red. Just moments ago, these people were showering her with compliments. It was obvious they thought she was the future Mrs. Northwood.  At this moment, someone approached to offer a toast to Lucian. He glanced at Calista and asked  curiously, “Who is this, Mr. Northwood?”  Lucian remained silent. Instead, the woman of the night, Selena, walked over. She linked her arm with Calista’s and introduced her to the guests. “This is my daughter–in–law, Calista.”  Everyone was dumbfounded by her words.  “Mr. Northwood is married?”  “When did this happen? I’ve never heard of it before.”  The crowd began to discuss heatedly, and Lily’s face turned red. She regret showing up tonight.  Selena smiled and continued, “Young people nowadays like to keep a low profile, unlike our  traditions. So we merely invited close relatives for the wedding reception. Today is a good day to  disclose their relationship.”  Selena made it clear that the purpose of the birthday dinner today was to publicize their  relationship. The crowd’s astonishment quickly turned to laughter to curry favor.  “Mrs. Northwood is so pretty.”  “She looks better than models.”  1/4  +15 BONUS  Calista couldn’t bear to listen to the compliments. Although she had prepared herself for their  relationship to be revealed, she didn’t expect it to be in such a public manner. She thought that a  divorce wouldn’t affect their lives much since they married in secret, but it seems the situation  had changed  She turned and asked Lucian quietly, “Why didn’t you stop her?”  “Stop her from what?”  She huffed with annoyance, “Stop her from revealing our relationship.”  Lucian glared at her coldly and snorted, “Do you think everyone is as dense as you? Would I just  bring anyone to such an event?”  Calista had to admit he made a good point. She retorted unhappily, “I thought we could quietly go  on our separate ways after the divorce. At this point, we have no choice but to let everyone  witness you getting dumped.”  Lucian sneered, “Where did you get the guts to think you could dump me?”  As they bickered around, Selena had gone to meet with the other guests, and the guests shifted from praising Calista to discussing her outfit.  “Since Mr. Northwood is married, does that mean,  trending news was just rumors? I didn’t  expect such an internationally renowned dancer to be a homewrecker. Look at her outfit today.  She’s obviously trying to get on Mrs. Northwood’s nerves.”  Upon hearing this, Calista finally noticed that Lily was wearing a dress similar to hers, a black satin dress with almost identical designs. The only difference was that Lily had a V–neck and an open back, while hers was strapless.  The two dresses were somewhat alike, yet not entirely so, but the subtle differences couldn’t prevent people from comparing them. However, even Lily had to admit that Calista wore the dress better than she did. Calista had fair skin, and the black satin dress accentuated her complexion. 

Chapter 43 Their Relationship Exposed  +15 BONUS  The birthday dinner happened to fall on a weekend. Calista got up early to finish Lily’s painting She merely.ested for two days before accepting another task.  She had no choice. She would never be able to pay off the three million if she didn’t work her fingers to the bone.  The Northwood family always kept their birthday banquets low–profile. They only invited the relatives of the Jenkin and Northwood families.  In previous years, Calista would always arrive at the Stansend Manor early in the morning to attend to the guests. But she decided against it this year since she and Lucian would get a divorce.  She wanted to distance herself from her life as Mrs Northwood. It was also to give Selena some time to accept the situation. After all, she couldn’t spend her whole life putting up an act with  Lucian. Selena would eventually find out.  Calista looked at the time and buried herself in work. She was tasked with restoring a Georgian  vase this time. The damage was not severe.  Deeply engrossed in her work, she lost track of time. It was already two in the afternoon when she  received a phone call. She was starting to feel hungry too.  It was Lucian. Calista stretched her limbs and answered the call. Before she could say a word,  Lucian ordered, “Come now.”  They hadn’t been in contact for almost a month. Today was a special occasion. He came to fetch  er to the Stansend Manor.  alista replied, “Give me a moment to freshen up.”  Ithough she didn’t need to wear formal dress for this family dinner, she could not dress too  asually either. Luckily, she had grabbed a few designer outfits from the Everglade Manor.  ician answered angrily, “There’s no need. Come down in five minutes.”  e seemed to be in a bad mood. His impatience could be heard over the phone. After all, he was a  ell–respected president. He never had to wait for others.  lista gave herself a quick look in the mirror. Her hair was gathered in a casual bun, and she  dn’t put on any makeup. She was dressed in a basic T–shirt and sweatpants that she had  1/4  +15 BONUS  Since Liam didn’t mind her disheveled appearance, she did not need to try to impress him either. So, Calista put on her shoes and headed downstairs, grabbing two pieces of bread to appease her  hunger.  Lucian’s car was parked outside the building. He was leaning against the car, quietly smoking.  Lucian had a black shirt on, looking like an outcast.  He wore a designer outfit from a luxury brand worth thousands of dollars. An extravagant watch complemented his outfit. Amidst this typical residential area, his expensive attire seemed oddly  out of place.  It was apparent how disdainful Lucian thought she looked. His eyebrows were deeply furrowed as  if to mock her cheap lifestyle after leaving him.  Calista was about to open the car door when Lucian glared at her.  “Get in the car after eating and clean off the crumbs.”  Calista was rendered speechless by his demands.  She wondered if he would treat Lily rudely in the same situation. But she might come off as  jealous by asking such a question. So, she took a deep breath to gather herself. 

Chapter 41 Lucian Was Kissing Her  +15 BONUS  Calista’s head snapped up. Her reaction was subtle but noticeable to Lucian who still had his arm around her waist. Paul’s voice had made her tense up.  Paul was standing some distance from the car. He was staring at her through the half–opened car window.  He was dressed in a casual shirt and slacks. Even in the shadows, his good looks were evident.  Calista’s mind went blank for a second. She instinctively called out, “Paul …  ”  The arm on her waist tightened again. She nearly yelped in pain. However, Paul was there. So, she had no choice but to grit her teeth and endure the pain. –  She wasn’t sure if Paul had seen Lucian in the car with her. After all, the lighting in the car park was dim. It was unlikely he had seen Lucian from his distance and angle.  Paul smiled and walked toward her. “I had a feeling I recognized someone here, but I didn’t expect it to be you!”  Her body tensed further as Paul neared, the hand on Lucian’s chest clenching into a fist.  “Don’t come any closer,” she called weakly.  Because… Lucian was kissing her!  Meanwhile, Lucian was kissing her wrist, peppering it with love bites.  Paul looked at her in confusion but still stopped in his tracks like a gentleman.  However, now that he was closer, he could see that her eyes were red–rimmed.  He frowned. He recalled their previous meeting at the restaurant. She had jokingly asked if she  could borrow three million dollars. Was she still worried about this matter? (1  Paul pressed his lips together in contemplation before gently asking, “Are you still worried about  the debt you mentioned last time? Though three million dollars is a lot of money, if you really  need the money, I can…“.  Calista knew what he was implying. Her heart bloomed with warmth at his kindness.  But just as warmth began to envelop her heart, it was abruptly chilled by a frigid voice. “Paul,  1/4  +15 BONUS  Lucian’s mocking tone made Paul pause in confusion. With uncertainty, he piped, “Lucian?”  Lucian grabbed Calista’s waist and sat up from his previous position. Calista tried desperately to stop him from revealing himself. But how could she possibly win against him in strength?  Besides, there was nothing she could do now to improve the situation.  Lucian’s shirt was completely unbuttoned save for the last two buttons. He sat leisurely with his chest exposed.  His finger traced Calista’s waist and ventured upward. Right before he reached the most sensitive part, his finger slid back down again.  He turned his attention back to Paul, standing outside the car. He quipped, “Or do you think I can’t afford to give her three million dollars?”  Paul paused for a second before smiling. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt the both of you.”  Clearly, he had misunderstood the current situation.  Calista’s face was aflame with embarrassment, making it hard for her to meet Paul’s gaze. Why did he have to arrive at such an inopportune moment?  Lucian was clearly making it so that Paul would misunderstand what was actually happening  between them!  However, she still needed to explain herself to Paul. She didn’t want Paul to think they were  having car S** the next time they met!  “Paul, it’s not what you think. Lucian and I …”  Lucian quirked a brow and interrupted her explanation. He casually remarked, “Mrs. Northwood,  button up your shirt first.”  Hearing this made Calista look down at her shirt. She saw that her buttons had come undone. Her  black lace bra got exposed.  Calista cursed under her breath and frantically buttoned up her shirt. By the time she looked up  again, Paul had already left. Now, there was no way to explain herself!  “Lucian, you bastard!”  2/4

Chapter 40 Lucian Was Worse Than An Animal  Alcohol dripped down Lucian’s face, an unusual sight given his usual grace. It was unexpected to  see him in such a state.  His lips formed a tight line, and his fury was palpable.  Calista was not intimidated by him at all. She simply cast a glance at him and left without  another word.  Cade couldn’t help but express his exasperation. Only Calista would dare to splash alcohol on  Lucian.  “I pray that Ms. Everhart can outrun Lucian,” Cade mumbled under his breath.  Lucian caught sight of Cade, dry despite being near Calista during the incident. He retorted coldly,  “I hope you lose your voice.”  Cade immediately fell silent. Lucian ignored him and headed straight toward Calista.  Lucian was tall with extremely long legs. He moved to catch up with Calista at a leisurely pace.  People instinctively lowered their heads in submission as he passed.  Calista waited by the elevator. She wasn’t sure if it was bad luck or her imagination, but the  elevator seemed slower than usual.  As she debated using the fire escape, heavy footsteps approached from behind. She turned to see  who it was. Before she could register the person, she was lifted over a man’s shoulder like a sack  of potatoes.  Her upper body hung over his shoulder. His shoulder blades dug into her stomach, making her  feel nauseous.  The elevator chimed as it arrived. Calista could hear the sounds of the elevator doors opening. She  squirmed uncomfortably and protested, “Lucian! Put me down!”  The position that she was in was extremely uncomfortable for her. Blood was rushing to her head,  and her stomach was also churning.  Lucian didn’t reply and simply walked into the elevator with her over his shoulder.  Calista felt as if she would faint from all the blood rushing to her head. She mustered up all of her  1/4  +15 BONUS  “Put me down! I’m going to throw up!” she cried.  “If you know what’s best for you, you’ll hold it in,” Lucian replied coldly.  He hadn’t explicitly threatened her. But his tone and attitude clearly conveyed his anger toward  her.  The Luminary Lounge had a strict no–violence policy for its guests. Yet, Lucian had carried her all  the way from the sixth floor to the first. He had passed by multiple attendants and guards.  However, none of them made a move to stop him.  In the end, Calista was thrown forcefully into the car  Before she could regain her bearings, Lucian gripped her chin and pinned her body down with his.  His knee pressed onto the leather upholstery, and he looked arrogantly at her.  “It seems I’ve been too tolerant with you over the past three years, leading you to believe you can  do as you please.”  Lucian’s hair was still slightly damp from the alcohol. The smell of whisky filled the confined

Chapter 38 She Bit Him  Lucian frowned “You’re overthinking it. There’s a crucial upcoming project at Northwood Corporations  “The person in charge thinks highly of those with happy and harmonious families. So, if we divorce now, it might take me longer to secure the collaboration.”  Calista had only asked him to provoke him. Yet, his indifferent reply still stirred her heart.  “We got married in secret Not many people know that we’re married,” Calista argued.  “Yes, but some people are aware If the truth about us reaches the person in charge, then it wouldn’t be worth it for me to divorce you.”  As Lucian explained this to Calista, he carried her to the second floor. From her vantage point, she could only see the sharp line of his jaw. It was reminiscent of when she was in bed with him at the hotel. He appeared just as cold, arrogant, and domineering.  He brought her to the room, and an all too familiar sight greeted her.  To everyone else, Everglade Manor was elusive and grand. But to Calista, this was a prison where she had spent three years of her youth. Every nook and cranny of this house held memories of her spending her days and nights alone.  The memories of her unjust treatment over the past years turned into bitterness. Calista turned her gaze downward, unable to stand the sight of the room any longer. However, she  unintentionally buried her face into his chest by doing so.  Her sudden, intimate action dissipated the frustration lingering in Lucian’s heart. To him, burying  her head in his chest meant her submission to him.  Her hot breath dampened his shirt, making it stick to his skin. That sensation made Lucian’s body stiffen. He leaned down toward her to croon in a raspy voice, “Alright, don’t be so stubborn  anymore. You can move back in tomorrow…  However, his sentence was suddenly cut short by a low groan of pain from Lucian. He unwittingly  raised his voice as he yelled, “Calista! Are you a dog? How could you bite me?”  Calista loosened her jaw and studied her teeth imprints on his neck in satisfaction. She raised her  head to stare straight into his eyes with her own red–rimmed ones before trying to squirm out of  +15 BONUS  This time, Lucian didn’t stop her. He put her down. His expression was downright thunderous. The look he gave her was no different from a look that he would give a rabid dog.  “Don’t be so arrogant, Lucian. If it weren’t for Yara, I would have never come here. Also, do you only know how to force women to submit to you? When did I ever say that I consented to you carrying me?”  Lucian remained silent. He remembered when she would do just about anything to receive a shred of his attention. But now, she despised his very touch. In fact, she didn’t consent to it either…  Lucian felt annoyed again. He raised a hand to rub at his temples instead of replying.  Calista regulated her emotions as she reminded herself of the reason why she was here in the first place.  “Are you really going to let Yara go to jail over a slap that Lily has probably already healed from?” she asked.  “She hurt Lily, so she should face the consequences.”  ”  Calista gritted her teeth in annoyance. She thought back to what he had said earlier. It seemed like she had to cut a deal with him.  “You said that there was an upcoming project. I can wait until the project has been completed before proceeding with the divorce. However, you must ensure that Yara doesn’t go to jail.”  The silence in the room was deafening after Calista made her offer.  After a few seconds of silence, a crease appeared between Lucian’s brows again. He reluctantly nodded in agreement.  Now that she had settled Yara’s problem, Calista had no other reason to stay, so she turned to  leave.  She went straight to the police/station once she left Everglade Manor. Harvey was still at the  police station. Yara was free to leave after they had filled out the required documents.  “Lucian didn’t make any outrageous requests, right?” Yara asked concernedly.  Calista shook her head. “No.”  He hadn’t made any requests. She was the one who proposed the offer. All he did was agree  214  +15 BONUS  Yara didn’t believe her Lucian had been furious and was hellbent when he had arrived at the police station earlier. But now, she was able to leave without any problems. So, it meant that Calista must have promised him something.  “I’m sorry. I lost control and got you in trouble as well,” Yara apologized quiltily.  “Nonsense. I’m not in trouble,” Calista replied with a smile before continuing, “If you hadn’t hit her,  I would have. So, if anything, you’re in trouble because of me.”  Since Calista had already assured her everything was all right, Yara didn’t say anything else. However, she made sure to keep a personal vendetta against both Lucian and Lily.  After that, Calista’s life returned to normal. She would restore documents at work and then restore artworks after work. Lucian never contacted her either.
