Chapter 431  They sat facing each other as they enjoyed the food in silence. Now that Gwen had obtained evidence, they decided on a date for them to return.  Caroline and Gwen insisted on purchasing the tickets to go back themselves. Kirk and Sean had to find a way to get the right tickets so that all four of them could travel back together.  This time, they learned from experience. Sean would persuade Caroline about it, while Kirk would talk to Gwen. It was a brilliant idea.  Kirk hadn’t even said anything when Gwen raised her hands in the air in surrender.  On Caroline’s side, though, Sean had to put in some effort to convince her to give him the details of the flight. He had a way with words, and she eventually relented.  When they got on the plane, Gwen whispered into Caroline’s ear. “Why do I feel like we’ve fallen into their trap?”  Caroline fell silent at her words.  In the middle of the flight, Kirk sat down beside Caroline and said, “Darling, there’s something I want to discuss with you.”  Caroline looked out the window. “What is it?” Her voice was monotonous when she spoke.  “Can you move back home?” He asked. The villa felt hollow without her, and it made him feel  awful. In the past, he had loved going home, but now …  Caroline turned to look at him. “Things aren’t certain yet. I’ll decide if I’ll go back or not later, when  we know the truth.”  Seeing the determined look on her face, Kirk relented. He smiled and said, “Can I go to your place  more often then?”  Caroline was about to refuse when he said, “It’ll be easier for us to discuss the information we’ve  gotten so far.  “You’re curious as to how that person got your number and why they suddenly messaged you too,,  right? There’s also that woman, Dolly…  It made sense, and Caroline eventually agreed to it, although she wasn’t fond of the idea. “Okay,”  1/3  +15 BONUS  “But come over after 8:00 pm.”  Kirk agreed to it without a second thought.  Caroline frowned as she pondered over the matter. Things weren’t as simple as they seemed.  After getting off the plane, Gwen approached Caroline with anxiety written all over her face.” Carol, should I meet Mia right away or head over to meet the head of the PR department?”  Then, she asked, “What should I wear to look more impressive when I get rid of them later?”  Caroline smiled softly and patted Gwen on the shoulder. “Don’t worry! Let me go there with you.”  She had barely finished her sentence when Sean hollered from behind them. “Let me accompany you too!”  They had been supposed to go back to their respective homes after this. But in the end, all of them got in the same car and headed to the hostel together.  Gwen stared at Kirk and Sean from the backseat and lowered her voice to talk to Caroline. “Carol, is there anything I should be careful of later?”  Caroline gave her a reassuring smile and said, “Just relax.”  “But what if her mom’s an unreasonable person? What if she blames me for it even after knowing the truth? What should I do then?”  It made Caroline laugh at the absurdity of it all. “There are lots of reasonable people in this world.”  Despite that, Gwen didn’t stop her ranting. Time passed quickly thanks to this, and they arrived at  the hostel soon.  “Its doors were open, and when they entered, they saw Mia, who was busy helping her mother  with the chores.  It was clear now why her mother believed in everything she said. How could a good and well-  behaved child like her falsely accuse others?  Mia heard the thudding of footsteps and automatically raised her voice to greet whoever came  warmly. “Welcome! Are you looking-” 

Chapter 430  Kirk’s gaze remained soft. He gently caressed Caroline’s trembling body as if comforting a child.  He said patiently, “I’ll explain things to you, but please give me some time, okay?”  He would think of the perfect way to solve this so his actions wouldn’t leave a scar in Caroline’s heart like a nail.  Caroline slowly let go of Kirk’s collar. Tears kept rolling down her cheeks. She held her face in her hands and sobbed.  It was as if she wanted to let out all the heartache and grievances she had suffered during this time.  “How can you be so cruel, Kirk? Do you know how I’ve lived during this time?  “Why can’t you just tell me the truth? Either you tell me you don’t have a wife in another country, or you do.  “It doesn’t matter which answer you give! It’s much better than the vague answer you’re giving  now!”  Kirk’s heart ached as he watched Caroline’s shoulders shake with her sobs.  He had to use every bit of his willpower to restrain his emotions and not tell Caroline the truth.  He could definitely find the perfect way to solve this. He could perfectly explain why he was legally married without revealing his identity.  He dug his clenched fist into the mattress, and the bandaged wound opened up again, staining the gauze red. However, he didn’t seem to notice it. He stretched out his hand and hugged Caroline tightly.  Caroline’s tears stained his clothes, and their warmth burned his heart.  In the end, Caroline almost passed out from crying. She exhausted the last bit of her strength from crying so much. She laid weakly on the bed, looking at the ceiling and listening to the busy  sounds in the kitchen.  That used to be her favorite sound. Yet now, it upset her. She forced herself not to think about it.  1/2  +15 BONUS  She was here in Macovo to relax. She had to be happy and not think of anything upsetting!  Her mantra finally had an effect when she smelled the aroma of food wafting from the dining table. Caroline was indeed hungry.  She wouldn’t upset her stomach because she was upset with someone. She got out of bed, picked up a spoon, and started eating.  The food satisfied her taste buds as she ate. She hadn’t enjoyed eating for a long time. It was a familiar feeling and a scary thing to get used to. At this thought, Caroline slowed down her chewing  “Actually, I didn’t investigate your marital status solely because of Dolly. A mysterious person sent me a message saying you have a wife abroad.” Caroline lowered her head and scooped up some risotto.  She didn’t say that the mysterious person was Kirk’s other wife. She still remembered the woman telling her that she couldn’t tell Kirk about this.  Otherwise, Kirk would harm her. Whether it was true or not, Caroline still chose to keep her identity a secret.  “Do you know who the mysterious person is?” Kirk asked.  Caroline shook her head. “I don’t.”  After a pause, she added, “Angelo said Dolly was acting. Sot she had probably wanted me to see  the fight between the two women and a man.”  Otherwise, it couldn’t be such a coincidence that she had met Dolly while going to the ski slopes  that day. (1)  Kirk pondered for a moment. “You don’t have to think too much into it. I’ll have someone  investigate this.” 

Chapter 429  +15 BONUS  “I know that you’ll be on Caroline’s side as her friend. But I must tell you this–Kirk’s issues are  complicated. It can’t be explained in one or two sentences.  “You’ll only make things more complicated if you get involved. Besides-”  Sean looked straight at Gwen.  His piercing gaze made Gwen’s heart pound uncontrollably, and she stammered, “B–Besides what?  ”  “Do you think Kirk will hurt Caroline?” Sean smiled gently.  Gwen pursed her lips. As she looked at his sincere gaze, she couldn’t go against his will.  The temperature on her cheeks slowly rose. Worried about being seen through, she impatiently  shook off Sean’s hand.  “Okay, I got it. I won’t get involved. You never stop nagging. I shouldn’t call you Dr. Yates anymore.  I’ll call you Grandma Yates instead.”  Sean wasn’t annoyed by her nickname at all. Instead, he grinned. “You can call me whatever you  want, as long as you enjoy it.”  After a pause, he continued, “But only you can call me that.”  His exclusive claim tugged at Gwen’s feelings. She felt the warmth on her cheek and tried to  ignore her heart, which was about to leap out of her throat.  “You’re a smart guy. But this trick won’t work on just anyone.” With that, she jerked her hand  away from Sean and got out of the car.  Sean was silent. After a while, he realized Gwen had taken his words as flirting. But in truth, he  had been speaking from the bottom of his heart.  He shook his head with a sigh. Everyone was right. Being in love was difficult.  Kirk carried Caroline into his room. This room was the same presidential suite he had booked last  time.  1/2  +15 BONUS  As Caroline lay on the familiar bed, she felt like time had flown. Back then, she had gotten the message from the mysterious woman right here in this room.  “Here. Drink some water.” Kirk helped Caroline up.  He held the cup and slowly fed Caroline sips of water. He watched her gently, without any trace of impatience in his eyes.  After she drank the water, Kirk asked again, “Do you want to eat anything? I’ll get the chefs to make them for you.”  Caroline silently looked up at Kirk. After a long while, she said, “Don’t you have anything to ask me?”  Acting as if nothing had happened, Kirk said calmly, “You can talk whenever you’re ready.” 

Chapter 428  By the time Caroline recovered, half an hour had already passed.  Everyone else was waiting in the dining room, not daring to make a sound. They silently watched  Kirk, who had been by Caroline’s side the whole time.  Angelo wiped his tears and said in Macovian, “How touching.”  Gwen secretly asked Sean what Angelo had said. After getting an answer, she couldn’t help  grimacing.  “Touching? What’s touching about this?
