Chapter 100  +15 BONUS  “Mr. Jasper, you’re blessed to have such an amazing wife as Madam Alice.”  Jasper looked dazed at that moment. He thought he could see Alice looking up at him with doe-  like eyes that looked innocent yet aggrieved at the same time.  She would never care about him ever again. It would be a lie if Jasper claimed he wasn’t  disappointed at all.  “Alice isn’t a blessing. She’s a curse.”  Jasper returned to his bedroom gloomily. To his surprise, he noticed a box sitting on the coffee  table.  He recognized it immediately as a package from the tailor. So he opened the box while thinking  that his suit was patched.  As expected, the fancy suit was laid within the box.  It looked brand new. Jasper couldn’t spot any stitches on the fabric. The tailor in charge of  patching up his suit was very skilled, to say the least.  He couldn’t help but smile in satisfaction.  “Mr. Jasper, you still care about Madam Alice, right?” Mrs. Rosie asked happily upon noticing Jasper’s smile.  “I like the suit she gave me. It’s a good suit, after all. I don’t want to let it go to waste,” Jasper  replied coldly. His thumb caressed the collar, which was ironed neatly.  “Madam Alice has put in a lot of effort just to make you happy, sir.”  Mrs. Rosie let out a small sigh while looking quite distressed. “Please come with me.”  The pair soon arrived at Alice’s old room.  Mrs. Rosie opened the innermost door of the huge closet. “Take a look at the closet, Mr. Jasper.”  There were multiple shelves installed within the floor–to–ceiling closet. Boxes of various sizes and  colors were stacked neatly on top of those shelves,  Jasper was surprised to see such a sight. “What are those boxes?”  “These are the gifts Madam Alice had prepared for you during the past three years.”  Jasper’s body trembled in shock.  “Each of these gifts marked a special occasion of the year. For example, your birthday, Valentine’s  +15 BONUS  day of your first meeting with her.”  Mrs. Rosie continued, “She’d prepare a gift for you regardless of the occasion. Madam Alice knew  that you never cared about her effort. But she insisted on preparing them no matter what. It was  as though she was trying to make a tradition out of it.”  Jasper widened his eyes even more. At that moment, he felt quite stuffy inside.  “I may not understand what sort of love Ms. Gardner has for you, but Madam Alice truly loves you  from the bottom of her heart. I’m not being biased here, Mr. Jasper. I will continue to support the  young madam for as long as I live, I don’t care about Ms. Gardner at all.”  Mrs. Rosie grew frustrated when she remembered how pretentious Liana was. “Mr. Jasper, I may  be a housekeeper, but I’m not ignorant. I heard the necklace you gave Ms. Gardner showed up at  the charity auction as a bidding item, Did the Gardner family sell it?  “You spent so much effort creating that necklace for Ms. Gardner, yet they sold it right away! Why  didn’t she stop them?”  “Mrs. Rosie, let’s not talk about it, alright?” Jasper tried to interrupt Mrs. Rosie.  “Did you know that Madam Alice adores that necklace? When she heard that you were planning to  give that necklace to Ms. Gardner, she was so envious that she burst into tears!”  Mrs. Rosie’s voice wavered as she spoke. She sounded as though she was defending Alice.  Meanwhile, Jasper was astonished to hear the truth. He clenched his fists so tightly that his  knuckles whitened.  Did Alice secretly cry over a necklace that she couldn’t obtain?  Soon, Mrs. Rosie pulled out a beautiful box from the closet and opened it in front of Jasper.  He froze up immediately when he noticed the contents. He was shocked, to say the least.  Everything in the box belonged to Jasper. He didn’t even remember that they once existed in his 

Chapter 99  “What?”  Jasper widened his eyes immediately. His fork clattered on the floor.  When Alyssa noticed how alarmed he looked, her heart nank.  “Ms. Gardner threw a fit at home earlier while screaming your name, Mr. Beckett. She’s emotionally unstable right now. Madam Sophia has requested you to visit her as soon as you can. She’s worried that Ms. Gardner might harm herself-  Before Xavier could finish, Jasper got up. He bolted out of the dining room immediately.  “You ingrate! I’ll disown you if you dare visit that Gardner woman!” Newton slammed a hand on  the dining table furiously.  Unfortunately, it was too late. Jasper’s silhouette had already disappeared from everyone’s sight.  “Goodness, why am I stuck with an ingrate as my grandson? I’ve achieved so much in my lifetime,  yet I can’t save your marriage! Oh, Alice, this is all my fault!”  Newton shook his head with a heavy sigh. He felt nothing but guilt when he looked at Alyssa once  again.  Alyssa’s eyes were clear and calm. She smiled lightly before placing her cool palm on Newton’s  wrinkled hand.  “Don’t say that, Grandpa. You’ve done more than enough for my sake. Jasper and I just aren’t  meant to be.”  Meanwhile, Jasper got ready to get into his car while looking quite worried.  “Mr. Beckett!”  He stopped in his tracks immediately and turned around to look at Alice.  She had run out of the villa. The glint in her red–rimmed eyes was very obvious under the bright  light.  For some reason, Jasper felt slightly guilty when he met her eyes. Just as he was about to say something, Alyssa interrupted him.  “Please inform Ms. Betty on my behalf that I won’t let her off the hook. After all, she did humiliate  my employee and caused her to have a sudden seizure. Ms. Betty must take responsibility for  what happened.”  +15 BONUS  Jesper furrowed his brows immediately. He didn’t expect Alyssa to follow him out of the villa just  to bring up that matter  The hopetal glint in his eyes disappeared immediately.  Setty may be my sister. But I don’t really interfere with her private matters.”  “So this is a private matter to you, huh? Fine. I get what you mean.”  Alyssa’s lips curled into a cold smirk before she started making her way back to the villa. She no  longer bothered to look at Jasper after that.  Jasper felt uneasy at that moment. He could feel a shiver running down his spine.  Was Alyssa making fun of him?  That night, Jasper visited Liana, who apparently suffered from severe depression. He stayed at her  place till midnight before he was finally able to go home.  Jesper was still mindful of what Liana had done to Alice. Still, he pitied her when he saw the medical report detailing her ment*l illness.  The subject of depression would forever haunt him, after all.  “Something happened. Mr. Beckett. Would you like me to deal with it?” Xavier asked hesitantly  while clutching his phone.  “What is it?” Jasper happened to be resting with his eyes closed  “Someone has uploaded a video of Ms. Betty humiliating the housekeeper to the Internet. Thank goodness our people were able to notice that video in time. They wanted to ask if you’d like it  deleted to protect our company’s reputation.”  “Of course.”  Jasper narrowed his eyes slightly while giving his order. “This is Betty’s personal problem. We can’t let it affect the company’s image. Everything related to that incident must be deleted from 

Chapter 98 After replying to Newton’s question, Jasper moved to stand next to Alyssa. He stared at her quietly. He could still see tear tracks on her pretty face. Chapter 97  Meanwhile, Liana was also crying on the other end of the line.  “Alice knew that Grandpa never liked me, yet she kept using him just to cause trouble for me! She’s such a shameless bitch!”  Jasper kept staring at Alyssa the whole time, so he didn’t hear what Liana said.  Alyssa was bawling her eyes out without a care in the world, but Jasper could feel her raw emotion. His heart pricked in pain whenever he saw a teardrop dripping off her chin.  “What’s wrong, Alice? Please don’t scare me.” Newton had been through a lot in life, yet he couldn’t help but panic when facing a woman’s tears.  Alyssa kept sobbing the whole time. “Grandpa, I… I broke the bracelet! I’ve been trying so hard to fix it, b–but I just can’t….  “That’s why I thought I could make a new bracelet which is the same as the old one, but… but I was afraid that you’d get mad at me once you find out…”  She continued crying. “I’m sorry for lying to you, Grandpa! I’m so sorry.  Alyssa trembled as she cried her heart out. Her hands were already drenched with tears. She looked so pathetic at that moment.  After listening to the tearful confession, Jasper could only remain rooted to his spot. He was shocked.  He finally understood what Alyssa was up to over the past few days.  At the same time, he realized the reason why her fingers were covered in calluses. It turned out that she was doing her best to recreate the bracelet Newton had given her.  The sight of Alyssa’s tears made him feel bitter and distressed.  “Oh my. It’s just a small matter, my dear Alice.”  Newton grabbed Alyssa’s hand affectionately while smiling at her. “Actually, I knew your bracelet isn’t the same one I gave you when you first came in. I had a feeling that it was broken. Otherwise, you would’ve continued wearing it as usual.  “I’m not going to blame you, Alice. Doris had a huge collection of bracelets that could fill up a chest. I wanted to give them to you at first, but I was worried that you wouldn’t accept them. That’s why I selected the best bracelet and came up with an excuse just to give it to you.”  Newton explained, “Back then, Doris often told me jokingly that the bracelets were a huge burden  for her Sha quer  +15 BONUS  Alyssa finally calmed down after hearing Newton’s explanation. Then again, her eyes were still  teary, and the tip of her nose was still red.  “Jasper! Where did you go, you bastard?”  Newton slapped his wheelchair’s armrest. He yelled, “You st* pid brat, get your ass here and comfort your wife!”  Liana quickly called out to Jasper, “Don’t go there, Jasper! I’m still not done talking to you-”  “I need to deal with something right now. I’ll talk to you later.”  Jasper hung up once he was done speaking.  When Liana noticed the call was disconnected, she was so mad that her breathing became heavier. Her cheeks gradually reddened due to how angry she was.  “Alice, you filthy bitch! I’ll make you suffer!”  Liana soon called Sophia on the phone.  “Aunt Sophia, please help me! That Alice bitch is spending time with Jasper at Grandpa Newton’s  villa right now!”  Liana started crying once again. “At this rate, Jasper will fall in love with her! He’d come running.  to me without a word whenever I requested him to visit me in the past, but….  “But he hung up on me just now before I could finish talking to him! This means he no longer  loves me, right?”  Liana continued tearfully, “Aunt Sophia, if I can’t marry into the Beckett family, I won’t be able to help you anymore! I can’t even use the skills I’ve learned from you!”  She knew very well that ranting to Sophia wouldn’t help her in this situation. Instead, she would  have to drag Sophia into this mess by hinting that the latter’s plan was threatened. That way, the  older woman would do her best to help her.  “Don’t be alarmed, Lia. You know what Jasper is like. You can’t force him to do anything. You have  to be patient too, or else you might screw the whole thing up like last time. After all, he still  remembers the time when you accused Alice on purpose. 

Chapter 96  +15 BONUS  Alyssa looked a little surprised. But she quickly lowered her head. Even though she did her best to suppress her emotions, Jasper could still see a hint of embarrassment in her eyes.  It made his heart pound wildly. His cheeks flared in embarrassment as well.  At that moment, Jasper’s phone started vibrating in his pocket. He fished it out to look at the caller ID. Then, he left the study immediately.  Jasper leaned against the wall in the corridor as he stared at the word “Lia” on his phone screen. Finally, he picked up the call silently.  “Jasper, are you still mad at me?” Liana’s cries drifted from the other end of the line before Jasper could say anything.  “No,” he replied emotionlessly.  But Liana clearly felt that Jasper was still angry at her.  “C–Can you come over to my place right now? I miss you so much, Jasper! I can’t even sleep because of how much I miss you…”  Liana confessed to Jasper in a soft and sweet tone.  “Not tonight. I need to keep Grandpa company.”  “You’re at Grandpa’s place right now? I’ll head over there, then. Didn’t you tell me that I need to pop over to Grandpa’s villa and show that I care about him? That way, he’ll accept me as a part of the family.”  Liana continued, “It just so happened that I baked a fresh batch of chestnut tarts earlier.  Remember when we used to eat them sneakily before dinner? I’ll bring some for Grandpa as well. I want him to taste my cooking, after all.”  Her tone was very gentle and kind.  “Lia, I can’t meet you tonight.”  In the end, Jasper’s heart softened when he heard Liana mentioning the past. Even his voice became gentler as well.  “Alice is at Grandpa’s villa right now,” he explained. “It’d be bad if you were to bump into her here. You know how much Grandpa likes her-”  “Are you with Alice right now?” Liana’s voice trembled at that moment.  “Yes. Grandpa has been looking for her over the past few days. I brought her to his villa for his  +15 BONUS  “Is that really the truth? Or is it because you want to see her, Jasper?” Liana accused angrily,  “Don’t overthink things, Lia.” Jasper sounded very cold.  “What the hell is that shameless woman up to this time? You two have already divorced. So, why is she pestering you?”  Liana continued furiously, “Alice must have been the one driving a wedge between me and Grandpa! She wants to use Grandpa as leverage to oppress me! How could she be this shameless?”  Right now, Liana hated Alyssa’s guts a lot.  Jasper could only massage his throbbing temple while sighing.  Meanwhile, Alyssa remembered the way Jasper had stared at her earlier. Her heart skipped a beat  as a result.  Damn it! Why did she blush just now? How pathetic of her!  Jasper’s eyes were naturally alluring. He could be glaring at Alyssa for all she knew, and she’d  think he was trying to flirt with her.  “Alice,” Newton suddenly called out to her.  “Yes, Grandpa?” Alyssa snapped out of her thoughts before smiling at him.  “I can see that you really like the bracelet I gave you. You keep wearing it, after all.”  All Alyssa could feel was panic. Her mind went blank at that moment. Even her throat felt  parched all of a sudden.  “G–Grandpa-”  “Keep wearing it. That bracelet will be with you for the rest of your life.”  Newton smiled at Alyssa lovingly. “I had Ben clean out my late wife’s jewelry. He found a couple more gems in her stash, so I’d like you to have them. Think of them as a safety net.”  He continued, “I’m already very old, you know. I used to think you’d live happily ever after with Jasper, but it seems he’s pretty unreliable. That grandson of mine is as foolish as his father.  “I hope that you’ll be able to live peacefully for the rest of your life. But if something were to happen to you in the future, you could sell those gems for a nice sum of money. You could live  lavishly Um, Alice? Are you alright?”  Suddenly, Newton looked surprised. He was a domineering old man. Yet, at that moment, he felt  helpless.  +15 BONUS 

Chapter 95  +15 BONUS  On their way to their destination, Alyssa stared out the window. She didn’t glance at Jasper.  Obviously, she was being hostile to him.  Jasper kept glancing at Alyssa from time to time. There were times when he wanted to ask her a  question, but he found it difficult to speak up.  Newton’s villa was located in Crescent Bay in Solana City. Stretches of mountains surrounded the area, making it tranquil and scenic. The neighborhood was like a paradise hidden from the rest of  the city.  “Grandpa, I’m here to visit you!”  Alyssa smiled brightly the moment she stepped into the villa. Her clear voice was akin to a nightingale’s sweet call.  Truthfully speaking, she was a little worried because of what happened to the bracelet. She had to spend a long time mustering her courage. Then, she finally walked through the front door.  “You’re here, Alice! I missed you so much!” Newton exclaimed from his wheelchair. Ben was wheeling him out.  The old man perked up instantly when he finally saw his granddaughter–in–law. The delight on  his face was undeniable.  “Where did you go, Alice? Are you planning to abandon me? Do you not love me anymore?”  Newton clutched Alyssa’s hand tightly while flooding her with questions.  Jasper just scowled in displeasure.  He wondered if his grandfather was a flirt at heart. Newton was almost 80, yet he was still hitting  on Alice.  “Grandpa, I’ve been busy with work lately. I was out on a business trip. That was why I didn’t call you on the phone. It’s my fault for neglecting you. You can scold me if you want.”  Alyssa crouched down in front of Newton. She smiled sweetly at him.  “Oh, I don’t have the heart to scold you, my dear Alice! I’m so happy that I get to see you again!”  Newton turned to glare at Jasper. He added, “If it weren’t for a certain ingrate who’s a bad judge of character, you could’ve visited me every day. I wouldn’t have to go through so much trouble just to  see you again.”  Alyssa’s smile froze on her face. For a moment, she didn’t know what to say.  +15 BONUS  Jasper’s expression darkened immediately. He knew that he shouldn’t have gone to Newton’s villa  in the first place. Getting insulted by his grandfather was a tradition at this point.  “Alice, I received a new painting recently. I didn’t want to show it to anyone else because I wanted  you to be the first one to see it.” Newton took Alyssa’s hand and led her to his study.  “You want me to appraise the painting for you, right, Grandpa?” Alyssa remarked with a small  smile. She had light dimples decorating her cheeks whenever she smiled.  “Heh! You saw through my plan!”  Meanwhile, Jasper was surprised to hear the newfound information.  He was Alyssa’s husband for three years. Yet he had no idea she was such a sassy woman skilled at racing, painting, and sewing. Now, he found out that she was also good at appraising paintings.  How could one person be equipped with so many talents? Jasper refused to believe that Alyssa  was that skilled.  That was why he wanted to see her in action.  Ben was already donning white gloves in the study. He carefully placed the painting on the mahogany desk so the others could look at it.  “Alice, this is my new painting. Can you help me appraise it?” Newton asked eagerly.  “Of course, Grandpa.”  Alyssa bent over the painting while studying it with a magnifying glass. Her left hand was folded behind her back as she appraised it carefully.  Jasper noticed how cold and stoic her expression was. It made him smile unconsciously.  He never thought that she looked like an elderly scholar despite her youthful and beautiful looks. It was an interesting contrast.  Newton noticed the emerald bracelet wrapped around Alyssa’s left wrist. A glint appeared in his  but his smile was still affectionate.  eyes,  “This is Wivenhoe Park, a famous painting created by John Constable.” Alyssa smiled confidently  as she spoke.  “That’s right.” Newton nodded happily.  “Constable is known for his landscape paintings. He found inspiration in the countryside, which is why he usually included greenery in his paintings. Constable’s also known for using rich colors. and light in his paintings to convey how magical nature is ”  +16 BONUS 

Chapter 94  Jasper accompanied Alyssa to the infirmary. The doctor wasn’t there, so Alyssa grabbed iodine and bandages before treating her injury skillfully.  “I’ll do it,” Jasper offered coldly while approaching her.  Alyssa turned away from him in frustration. She replied icily, “It’s fine.”  Jasper was known to be a stubborn man. He was an extremist, in a sense. He could either ignore Alyssa as though she didn’t exist or meddle in her affairs whenever he felt like it.  Hence, he grabbed Alyssa’s wrist tightly. “Just stay put, Alice!” he commanded.  Alyssa was surprised by the order. Soon, she felt a cool sensation coming from her wrist.  Jasper was applying the ointment to Alyssa’s injury. He focused on dabbing the cotton bud on her  injury as gently as he could.  His long eyelashes lowered slightly when he looked down at Alyssa’s wrist. Whenever he exerted  force with his bony wrist, Alyssa could see the light blue veins underneath his pale skin. They  made his hand look very attractive.  Some people were born to be attractive by nature. Jasper was one of them.  Meanwhile, Jasper continued to check Alyssa’s injury seriously.  Her hand was a lot rougher than he imagined. At the same time, it was still soft to the touch.  Alyssa had such slender fingers, yet their tips were covered with calluses. Her hands didn’t fit her  identity as a young, pampered woman.  An unfamiliar memory started flowing into Jasper’s mind all of a sudden. He thought he could see  rays of silvery moonlight and silk curtains flapping in the wind.  He knew he had never seen such a scene before. But it felt oddly familiar to him.  Jasper took a deep breath just to calm down. He then swallowed dryly.  He never developed such feelings for Liana. Yet why would he feel this way for his ex–wife, who  kept challenging his boundaries?  How ridiculous.  Meanwhile, Alyssa could feel the warmth flowing from Jasper’s fingers. For some reason, she felt a jolt in her heart. She reacted immediately by pulling her hand away.  +15 BONUS  “I need to bandage your wrist.”  Jasper’s grip tightened around Alyssa’s hand stubbornly. He huffed coldly before commenting,” Did you go mining recently? Why are your hands so rough? There are calluses all over your fingers.  “Nope. I was working on the sewers the whole time.” Alyssa knew how much Jasper loved cleanliness. So, she gave him an answer that would disgust him.  “Can you be nice for once?” A frown appeared on Jasper’s face.  “I’m always nice. Just not in front of you.” Alyssa tilted her chin. She smirked cheekily.  Of course, Jasper was annoyed by that answer. That woman started becoming unruly just because she had Jonah to back her up.  At the same time, her charm drew him in.  If it wasn’t for their divorce, Jasper wouldn’t have known that Alyssa had such a childish and cheeky side.  Alyssa’s injury was quite minor. Yet Jasper worked swiftly and carefully.  It was easy for him to treat such injuries. He might have led a life of luxury, but he wasn’t incapable of doing anything other than running his company.  With Liam’s help, Alyssa found out more information on Jasper. It turned out that Jasper used to be the best cadet at the military academy.  Occasionally, there were times when someone would rise to challenge his status. The only person capable of doing that was Axel.  Truthfully speaking, Jasper was more suited to become a spy since his ment*lity and  cunningness were superior to Axel’s. He could even take over Liam’s position if he wanted to.  Unfortunately, Jasper’s identity as the son of the Beckett family set his destiny in stone. The only path meant for him in life was becoming the Beckett family’s heir.  Then again, he was able to succeed as a businessman even after retiring from the army.  It was safe to say that Jasper was a legendary genius.  No human was perfect in this world. A man as outstanding as him ended up getting blindsided by his love for Liana the bitch.  Alyssa’s lips curled into a cold smirk. She could care less about Jasper’s love life.  Of course, she wanted nothing to do with him anymore.
