A stifling silence brooded in the room in the next second. Serenity kept her head low and could feel his gaze pinned directly on ber. A short moment later, Serenity heard Jackson’s voice ring in the room. “Well, if you insist. Just do as you like.” Jackson rose and left the dining area after saying that. Serenity waited until the sound of footsteps liad faded before finally letting out a long sigh. She looked up at the table and saw half a portion of food left at his seat. Jackson had left without finishing his meal. Was he furious at her answer again? Serenity could not resist thinking about it and quietly laughed at her thoughts. What was the use of thinking about it? Was she annoying him? Jackson was probably already angry from the very beginning when she rejected him and refused to stay by his side. Even though she was prepared for this, she was still nervous when the interviewer then asked why a law graduate like her wanted to be a delivery driver. She tried her best to explain in simple words and shared how her Lawyer license had gotten revoked because she had been in jail for a traffic accident The interviewer had not asked any further questions after that. He told her to go back and wait for the notke. At that instance, Serenity knew that she might have failed the interview. However, the question was an unavoidable one. More than a dozen companies were recruiting delivery riders in Solaria. Serenity had submitted her resume to each of them. She did not know if any company would accept her, but she felt tired She felt like. It was exhausting to live. Perhaps the series of events that had happened after her release from prison had left her physically and mentally exhausted. Earning money these days was hard. The small design firm Lisa worked at had recently announced a salary change Lisa’s employer would only pay 80% of the monthly salary and keep the remaining 20% in the year–end bonus. It was effectively a wage cur. The employee was putting together 20% of the monthly wages and treating it as the year–end bonus.
