Chapter 271  Her nose topled. The tears that had only just stopped flowing moments ago began to gush out again.  “If you really want to cry,” he said, his fingertip caressing gently against her eye, ‘then just let it all out, Sis  Him calling her ‘Sis‘ was like a key that unlocked all the pain and misery that had been suppressed and sealed up all this time. Unable to restrain her emotions any longer, she yelped and finally cried her heart out.  How long had been since she last cried her heart out like this? How long had it been since she had to resign herself to the fact that no matter how loudly she cried, no matter how many tears she shed, it would all be useless because she could rely on no one else but herself because her tears were useless?  Yet the moment she heard him call her ‘Sis‘, she thought of her mother, she thought of the baby in her mother’s womb who would have been her little brother, but who never even had the chance to call her ‘Sts‘.  If her mother and little brother had never left this world back then, would she feel less alone now? Would she actually have a real family who loved her?  Serenity’s impassioned cry startled Jackson. If it hurt him to watch her bite her lips and cry silently, then the sight of her crying bitterly as she did now made him feel completely and utterly at a loss of what to do.  His whole body stiffened as her teardrops poured out uncrasingly, almost as if all the blood in his vessels had congealed and all the nerves in his body were frozen  He had never felt so helpless before. Even when his mother had dumped his father and afterward when his father had frozen. to death in the snow, all he had felt was hopelessness and despair–he had not felt weak or powerless at all.  Yet at this moment, when facing Serenity who was crying her heart out, he felt as if he was frozen in ice and burned in fire at the same time. He wanted nothing more than for her to stop suffering, yet his whole body was as stiff as a stone, and he simply did not know how to react.  Just then, she suddenly threw herself into his arms and buried her face against his chest while still fervently crying. Her tears soaked into the fabric on his chest, and it felt ke her tears were absorbed into his body and then moved into his bloodstream before flowing into his heart.  After a long while, Jackson finally raised his stiff arms and cautiously wrapped them around Serenity.  If she had been so depressed and in despair, then she could just let it all out, but… she must only let it all out in front of him. He would never let her show her weak side and cry in front of anyone else.  d stronger.  As time went by, his possessiveness over her only grew stronger and s  When they reached Valor Residence, the driver respectfully got out of the car, but Jackson still remained inside and stayed in the same position with Serenity in his arms, letting her cry as much as she wanted.  He was not sure how much time went by when her crying finally subsided. He looked down, only to see that she had cried. herself to sleep Her face was drenched in tears, and her eyes were red and swallen from all the crying. All her ten fingers were wrapped in white gauze. The sight of her looking like this almost made his heart burst with sympathy.  Suddenly, the sound of a phone ringing bruke the silence. It was the phone in Serenity’s pocket, Jackson picked it up and glanced at the caller IDon the screen, which told him that it was Lisa Quest calling.  He frowned slightly and then pressed the answer button.  “Hello?” Lisa’s voice spoke up at the other end of the line. “Serenity? Are you there? Why aren’t you home today? Are you working overtime?”  “She’s not staying there right now,” Jackson sald in a lushed voice as he was afraid that he might wake Serenity up. “She’s already asleep, so if you’ve got anything to say to her, just call her tomorrow 

Chapter 270  There was not a peep out of Serenity the whole time. She was perfectly still and silent, almost as if lost in her own inner world until the doctor tried to take the photo albus in her hands. She seemed to came to her senses suddenly and clurg, tightly to the photo albums, yelling, “No!”  “No one’s taking it away,” Jackson assured her gently, “but the doctor needs to examine your hands. Give it to me, Sis, and let the doctor take a good look at your hands, okay?”  As soon as Serenity heard him call her sis, she finally looked at him and murmured, “Jack 7”  “Yes,” he replied, “it’s me. Tell me, what happened to you exactly?  Hers trembled, and the tears that had been suppressed all this while gushed straight out as she told him in a choked–up voice, “It’s burnt! The album with phates of me and my mother! It’s burnt!”  As she spoke, her curly eyelashes seemed to bring forth more tears free her eyes with their every fluttering movement  Jackson was astonished. So, that half–burnt album was a photo album of Serenity and her mother?  He had spent enough time living with Serenity to understand how important her mother was to her.  At that moment, the doctor finally had a chance to examine Serenity’s hands. After seeing them, he immediately began to treat the scalded area, cleaned the wounds, and bandaged them.  The bruises on the back of her hand had barely even started to heal, yet there were now more wounds on her hands. All ten fingers of her hands were now wrapped in gauze. All throughout the process, Serenity remained totally silent, as if she felt no pain at all, but the more she acted this way, the more unbearable it was for him to see it  Jackson pulled out his handkerchief and wiped away her tears, saying, “Don’t cry…”  Every tear that she shed made him suffer, and it made him feel helpless. He had always been all–powerful in Solaria, capable of making anything happen, but as for the photo album of Serenity and her mother, he realized that no matter how much money he had, it was not enough to restore it to its original state.  Right now, all he could do was wipe away her tears…  “It’s a minor burn,” the doctor informed them, ‘but it’s nothing serious, fortunately. You shouldn’t let the wounds come into contact with water until they heal, and you must apply the medicine every day.”  “Will there be any long–term effects?” Jackson asked.  “The wounds are all skin–deep,” the doctor replied. “No nerves or muscles were affected, though the wounds might leave somme scars in the future.”  Jackson’s eyebrows knitted  Once her hands were bandaged, Serenity desperately tried to clasp the photo album against her chest as if it was her baby.  Precious  Seeing this, Jackson pursed his lips tightly, before once again gathering her up in his arms and striding out of the emergency room to take her back to the car,  I  “Don’t worry about the scars,” he assured her. “Dnce the wounds are healed, get an expert doctor to remove all scars.”  She raised her head slowly until her gaze fell on his face. There were still heads of tears on her eyelashes, but the look in her eyes was slowly reparing its rarity and lightness. She stayed silent for a long time, until at last she said, “I’m sorry. L completely lost my compusure just now.”  That evening, In her most painful moments, she had regarded him as the old “Jack” that she once knew and cried bitterly in  front of him..  Was it because the pain was too unbearable? Was that the reason why her mind was muddled just now?  “There’s no reason to apologize,” he told her. “You can always lose your composure without any hesitation in front of me.”

It contained the only photos she had of herself and her mother together!  The next thing she saw was her father pulling out a lighter, which he then lit up and held under the photo album.  “Since you never thought of your own sister, 1 have no reason to give you this album! Even your mother would never want a traiterous daughter like you!!!  The photo album caught fire, and trayson tossed it as it burned onto the tiled floor.  Serenity shrieked before pulling down her sleeves to beat out the fire with all her might.  She would never let the photo album burn no matter what! Never! it was the only memento she had left of her mother! It contained her memories she would never let it burn!  Even Serenity herself had no idea how long she had been screaming hysterically as she unceasingly beat the photo album with her two bare hands in a desperate attempt to put out the fire she did not even care when the flames consumed her hands. AİL she cared about was extinguishing the Ere at all costs, to the point where she appeared like a lunatic!  Her father, stepenother, and sister were all frightened by Serenity’s frenzied reaction.  In the end, when the fire was out, Serenity looked down at the burnt album. Only then did she realize that her face was soaked in tears. She staggered to her feet and clutched the photo album to her chest before looking up coldly at the man in front of her  the man who should be her father.  This man… had just tossed away the keepsake from the woman he had once vowed to spend his whole life with without any hesitation at all. Serenity’s mother had eddently been gone from his heart a long time ago. It turned out that his supposed love for her had vanished with the passage of time without even leaving a trace of nostalgia  There was a sign of embarrassment on her delicate tear–soaked face, but her almond shaped eyes were scouting itly at her father.  Grayson was shocked to see that look in his daughter’s eyes, but he still maintained his pride and demanded, “You, Wisat right do you have to look at your father like that? I can burn this album if I want to and there’s nothing you can do about it!”  Serenity suddenly smiled, but her eyes were scomful and sarcastic.  “If Mom was still alive,” she said, “she would question herself as to why she would ever marry a scumbag like you!”  “Is that how you talk to your father?!” Grayson raised his hand and struck it vehemently across Serenity’s face.  The slap was so hard that Serenity staggered back a few steps before she regained her balance again, but she kept that tattered photo album securely clasped in her arms.  “You’re not worthy to be her husband!” she derided. But if you still had an inkling of feeling for her, you’d never burn this photo album.”  She then turned on her heels and strode out of the house with the photo album in her hands.  Meanwhile, the three people left inside the house all looked at each other.  “Why did you burn that all?” catherine Fisher asked her husband with some concern. “What if she got burned and died?”  “No one gets burned that easily,” Grayson argued, still angry because he fel: his dignity as a father had been challenged by his daughter. “Even if she did get bumed, she’s only gut herself to blame!”  “But isn’t she with Jackson Vallor now?” Catherine asked anxiously. “What t! she tells him about it and he tries to get back at “But  us for it?”  Chueter 265  “Let’s see if she dares Grayson snapped with his eyes widened, “No matter what, I’m still her father! If she really does try to get back at us, I’ll make sure she never finds her mother’s grave!”  Aria stood aside with her head lowered. Her eyes flickered as she silently cursed the flame for not consuming Serenity just now! 

Chapter 267  1/2  “Come on,” Grayson Lewis said, “sit down.”  Serenity took a seat and bluntly asked, “Where are you going to move my mother’s grave?”  “Let’s talk about that later,” Grayson waved his hand. “Let’s talk about what’s going on between you and your sister. I’m going to be the peacemaker for both of you today. No matter what happened, you’re still family, you know. As the elder sister, you should always protect your little sister,”  “All I want ia ‘enow,” Serenity insisted, “is where you’re going to move my mother’s grave‘  Grayson grew impatient.  “Didn’t I tell you we’ll talk about that later? Let’s settle this problem between you and your sister first,”  “Sis,” Aria spoke up in an apparently earnest voice, please forgive me if I’ve ever done anything wrong. I’m Iruly sorry”  This only made Serenity put her guard up even more. The more Aria acted this way, the more she could tell that there might be a problem.  And just as she suspected, the next thing Grayson said confirmed her fears and made her realize what Aria’s true motive was  “Come now, you’re both sisters, after all, so don’t let one man get in between the both of you.  He then tumed to his eldest daughter and said, “Serenity, Lucas Gomez is your sister’s boyfriend, so don’t ruin her relationship with him. Besides, aren’t you with Jackson Valor right now? In that case, you really shouldn’t get in between your sister and Lucat.”  Realization hit Serenity. So, that was the true reason why they wanted her there.  “I have no interest in what’s going on between Ana and Lucas Gomez,” she said, before once again repeating her question, “I just want to know where my mother’s grave will be moved.”  “Are you telling me you won’t do as I say?‘ Graysan snapped with anger. “So, you re determined to steal Lucas away from. your sister, huh? I’m telling you now, if you ever dare ruin Arta’s relationship, you won’t ever see your mother’s grave ever  again  Serenity stared at her father icily and replied, “My actions won’t have any effect on her relationship anyway. If Lucas really loves her, then no one can steal him away from her, but if he never loved her, she won’t be able to keep him no matter what she does, then!”  “What are you saying?!” Serenity’s stepmother suddenly cut in anxiously. “You’re not trying to drag Aria down with you. because you can’t marry Jackson, are you?! My daughter is nothing like you! She’s an innocent girl with no criminal record and she’s going to be a superstar in the future! She’s not going to end up lior you!”  If you really think that she’s nothing like me,‘ said Serenity with indifference, “I’m sure she’ll be able to keep Lucas by her side with her own capabilities.”  She never understood why Lucas would ever choose Aria to be his girlfriend. Was it love? It did not look like it Otherwise, he would never let Aria kneel in front of so many prople back then on the film set. Even if the real person behind it was Jackson, Lucas was more than powerful enough to not be intimidated by him!  Besides, Serenity had seen how Lucas treated his ex–girlfriends. Perhaps those who had been in the most relationships. the most unfeeling ones after all, Serenity simply could not believe that Aria would be Lucas Gomez’s last girlfriend.  “The only reason I came here today was to find out about my mother’s grave! Please give me the documents regarding the application to move my mother’s grave along with the household registration bookdet, and I’ll handle it myself.”  As she spoke, she realized that she had never officially moved out of this house yet. But then, she thought about it and realized that she had nowhere to move to since she had no offici address in Solicia. She could not put her name in the Sanitation Office collective housebuld registration, and as for her grandother’s house.. she was sure that her uncles and the rest of the family would never agree to it since they would suspect her of going after the relocation fund.  At that moment, it suddenly dawned on her how truly alone she was in this world. She did not even have a single place she could traly call home.
