Chapter 27  He stared at her. “Do you think I earn too little money?” “Ah, no!” She denied it. “I just wish you could have a better life.” Maybe she wouldn’t amount to much, but she wished for a better life for him. “I will have a better life. And when the time comes, I can give you whatever kind of life you want, too,” he looked at her seriously and said. Obviously, this was just a game to him, but now, he really wanted to give her a different kind of life. It would be something that he could easily do. Serenity smiled. She did not believe that Jack could give her the kind of life she wanted. However, she did not want to hurt his self–esteem, so she simply said, “Nice. Then I’ll wait for you to get rich and just be a leech and live off you.” “Okay,” he replied as a glint flashed across his deep, dark eyes. If she wanted, he could support her for the rest of her life. The next day, when Connor Gunn went to the pantry, he heard some co–workers chatting with each other. “Have you seen the sweater that Mr. Valor is wearing today?” “No, why?” “It seems to be a bestseller on Amazon.” “No way. There’s no way Mr. Valor would wear that kind of clothes.” “I couldn’t believe it either. Maybe the bestseller on Amazon is a replica of a sweater from a well–known brand. But that sweater looks different on Mr. Valor. It makes me want to buy one for my husband.” “Send me the link too.” Connor froze. Then, he silently backed out of the pantry. He did not have the heart to tell the two co–workers that, yes, the sweater Mr. Valor was wearing today was indeed an Amazon bestseller, and he even saw someone else in the company wearing the same sweater today. Mr. Valor was pretty nonchalant about it. He merely gave that person a faint glance. But that co–worker was shocked. He could not believe that his CEO was wearing the same sweater as him. Connor returned to the CEO’s office and saw his boss at the desk. Jackson had taken off his suit jacket and was reviewing documents. The sweater did make him look more bookish than usual, and less ruthless. Serenity Lewis probably bought that sweater for him, thought Connor. Usually, before Mr. Valor came to the company, he would change out of the clothes he wore to the rental house, but today, he did not change out of the sweater. What did this mean? Also, how long was Mr. Valor going to go to that tiny rental house for? Of course, Connor did not dare to ask him these questions. “Mr. Valor, this is the acquisition proposal you asked for.” Connor placed the document on the desk. He was about to leave when Jackson suddenly called out to him. “Do you know about the advertisement Zeke Shaw put up everywhere in town for Jenny Hall?” Jackson asked. The question surprised Connor a little bit. He did not expect a question like that from his boss. “I do.” “How many such advertisements are there in the city?” asked Jackson.

Chapter 26  She smiled. She thought he was just joking. It was an ad to celebrate the marriage between the Shaw family and the Hall family. Who would dare to take it down? Her vision was dark. She could feel the warmth of his hands that were pressing against her skin. After a moment, she pulled down his hands, looked up at him and said, “Jack, thank you.” She thought he had said that to comfort her. “Let’s go. I’m hungry.” She took his hand and walked away towards home. Jack’s eyes stole one last glance at the large advertisement before he followed after her. When they reached the rental house, Serenity went to the security booth to pick up a delivery. It was a sweater she bought. She opened the packaging, took out the sweater and touched it to inspect the texture. It was okay; worth the price at least. “Jack, try this sweater on and see if it fits,” she said. It was a blue and green checkered sweater. After Jackson put it on, Serenity’s eyes brightened. Wow, he looked good in it. She suddenly thought of something and said, “Jack, lower your head.” Jackson lowered his head obediently. Serenity grabbed a comb and combed his fringe backwards, revealing his well–defined face. She had always known that he was good–looking, but his fringe usually covered most of his eyes so his face was barely visible. Now that it was, it amazed her. “Our Jack is so handsome,” she couldn’t help but say. “If you comb your fringe back all the time, you would have groups of girls chasing after you when you hand out leaflets on the streets.” He smiled faintly. The way she said “our Jack” seemed to please him. “Why don’t we go to the hairdresser later so that you can get a haircut? It’s such a shame to see your beautiful eyes get covered up all the time,” she tried to persuade him. “It’s not. As long as you get to see them, that’s enough,” said Jackson. Serenity smiled. “You can wear this sweater tomorrow. I’ll wash the sweater you’re currently wearing.” “Okay.” She took out her phone and took a picture of him in the sweater, then posted it on Facebook. Speaking of Facebook, her friends list was pretty empty. There were only two people on it. One was Lisa Quest and the other was Jackson. “I’m showing Lisa the photo. She must be so envious to see that I have a brother like you,” said Serenity. Only at times like these would she behave more like a girl and stop being so gloomy. As expected, Lisa liked the photo not long after and sent a reply. “The sweater looks good. How much is it?” “$29.90. The quality of the material is good and it’s quite thick too, so it should be pretty warm,” Serenity replied. “I think I’ll buy one for my dad,” said Lisa. “By the way, your new brother is like a model. Everything looks good on him. I think he can actually be a model for online stores. The threshold isn’t high and it pays much better than handing out flyers.” Serenity thought about it and asked Jackson, “How do you feel about becoming a model for online stores?” “I’m not that interested,” he said. “But it pays much better than your current job of handing out flyers and it’s a little more stable too,” she said.

While she was sweeping, a person suddenly appeared in front of her. She looked up and saw that it was Peter Wall.
