 Facebook  Twitter  WhatsApp  Pinterest Chapter 85  But after that, Connor immediately reminded himself to stop speculating. It was not something that he should concern  himself with.  Connor gently closed the door behind him. Inside the house, Jackson looked at the still–asleep Serenity. He brought the medicine in his hand to her slightly dry lips. “Be a good girl and take the medicine, okay?”  However, her lips shut tighter instead. He could not even stuff the pill into her mouth, let alone make her swallow it.  Jackson pursed his lips so hard that it almost formed a straight line. He put the pill in his mouth together with some water, lowered his head and moved his mouth closer to Serenity’s.  His lips pressed against hers. The tip of his tongue pried open her lips and pushed the medicine into her mouth. There were actually other methods he could have used, but for some reason, he chose to use this method to feed her the medicine.  Even though the medicine was already in her mouth, he was still longing for her lips.  The sensation was like a craving or even an addiction. The touch only made him want more and more until… he could stop thinking about it…  Serenity he whispered, calling her name.  Suddenly, as if she had sensed him calling out to her, she slowly opened her eyes. Her blurry gaze fell on him.  He was slightly taken aback. For some reason, he felt a little nervous.  Then, her lips parted. She cracked a silly smile. “Mommy, I’ll be a good girl. I want to sleep with you.  He chuckled. She actually mistook him for her mother. The fever must be messing with her mind.  Her smile was childish and innocent, but it was also heartbreaking. He recalled that her mother had passed away early in her life. To her, her mother must have been the last bit of warmth in that house.  The corner of Jackson’s lips curled up. His father had died early while her mother had died early. There were some similarities  between them after all.  “Mommy, stay here with me, okay? I’ll be a good girl, 1 promise…” She half–opened her eyes. Her cheeks were flushed due to her fever. Her mouth opened and closed repeatedly. She looked as cute as a tiny animal.  Η  “Okay,” he could not help but reply. He took her hand in his, brought it to his face, and gently rubbed her palm against his cheek. He said softly, “Go to sleep. I’m staying right here.”  With that, she finally closed her eyes and fell asleep once more, only this time, her sleep seemed to be much more peaceful  than before.  Jackson silently stared at her while she slept. His lips kissed her palm somewhat greedily.  “Serenity…” The name escaped his mouth.  He felt like his desire for her was becoming stronger and stronger as time passed.  The more time he spent with her, the more he wanted her!  “Dad! Mom!” The next day, Joy Shaw complained to her parents, “I can’t believe Zele actually hit me yesterday because of Serenity Lewis! He was totally trying to humiliate me, Janet was there too. You have no idea how upset Janet looked.”  Zeke’s face was sullen. He could not care less about his sister’s complaint. He was too busy thinking about how Jackson Valor would react after he found out that Serenity got hurt.  “Did you run into Serenity yesterday?” their father asked.  “Yeah!” Joy said indignantly, “I have no idea what a sanitation worker like her was doing in a designer brand store! Also, Zeke wrote her a cheque for $720,000!” 

Chapter 84  That night, Serenity’s muffled scream woke Jackson up. He turned on the light and found that she was not sleeping peacefully. She seemed to be muttering something under her breath  However, her words were so slurred that he could not make out what she was saying.  “Sis!” he called out to her. He felt her forehead with his hand and found that it was wet with sweat. Her forehead seemed to be  a bit hot too.  Jackson quickly grabbed a towel, soaked it in warm water, squeezed it dry, and used it to wipe Serenity’s forehead.  Her eyes were still tightly closed as she kept mumbling  No matter how hard he tried to rouse her, her eyes never opened.  He pursed his lips. Anxiety washed over him. He did not know what he could do to make her feel better.  It was the first time he had ever felt so worried for a woman.  2  He grabbed his phone and called his secretary, Connor Gunn. Connor thus received a call from his boss at z. a.m. in the moming  “Connor, call a doctor and bring him to Serenity Lewis‘ apartment Immediately. Serenity is having a fever.” Jackson’s voice carried a hint of anxiety  “Right now?” Connor was flabbergasted.  “Yes, right now,” said Jackson.  What else could Connor say? He could only contact a doctor right away. He then left the warmth of his bed in the middle of the night to bring the doctor to the apartment  Connor was very careful when he knocked on the door. After all, Jackson did not want Serenity to discover his true identity,  The door was quickly opened. Jackson moved aside to let the doctor and Connor in  Once inside, Connar saw Serenity lying on the bed with her eyes closed. She did not seem to be awake.  “Take a look at her and see what’s wrong with her. I can’t wake her up,” said Jackson,  Connor could feel that his boss had lost some of his usual composure.  The doctor Connor brought was an experienced family doctor. Although he did not know Jackson’s identity, he knew who  Connor was  He thought he would be inspecting a patient in a mansion, but Connor actually brought him to a tiny studio apartment.  After giving Serenity a basic examination and hearing from them that Serenity had fallen down the escalator earlier, the doctor said, “It’s nothing serious. The fever is probably caused by an inflammation from today’s injury. I’ll prescribe some anti–fever medicine for her. If her fever hasn’t gone down by tomorrow, she’ll have to go to a hospital for further  examination.”  “Thank you,” said Jackson.  Connor then sent the doctor home whille Jackson remained in the house. He poured a cup of warm water to feed Serenity the  medicine.  On the way out, Connor happened to see his boss carrying the medicine and water to the bed.  Connor was slightly taken aback. When had Mr. Valor ever taken care of someone like this? And she’s not just any person,  she’s a woman  Was Mr. Valor really not in love with Serenity Lewis? Or was he actually in love with her but he hadn’t realized it yet?!

Chapter 79  He only paid more attention to Serenity than usual because of what the director said.  At that moment, someone else walked into the consulting room and went to Serenity’s side. He said, “Sis.”  “You’re here,” said Serenity. He arrived faster than she thought.  “Yeah, the heavy traffic delayed me a bit,” said Jackson  “Doctor, how is she? Is she okay? Someone tripped her and she fell several steps down the escalator,” Lisa asked nervously.  “The fall didn’t hurt her that much. She only had some minor bone fractures on her ankle. She’ll be fine after resting for a couple of weeks, but…” Dr. House hesitated a little.  “But what?” asked Lisa  “But Miss Lewis, did you get injured a lot in the last few years?” asked Dr. House.  The question surprised Serenity. She wasn’t sure how to answer that.  “I don’t mean to pry. It’s just that, your X–ray shows that you suffered a lot of injuries in the last few years. Some of your old injuries didn’t heal properly, so there might be some complications.”  “Complications?” Serenity frowned. “But I usually feel fine.”  “That’s because you’re still young. When you get older, those complications will slowly show themselves.”  “What kind of complications are we talking about?” Lisa looked more anxious than Serenity was  “In the future, she might get frequent joint pains. If it becomes serious, she might have difficulty lifting heavy objects or have difficulty walking.” answered Dr. House.  Serenity kept quiet and looked down at her limbs. She suffered all those old injuries in prison.  Even if her bones were fractured after a beating, she was merely bandaged up and left to heal by herself. She was grateful enough to get a moment of respite. There was no way she would get the proper treatment or be given enough time to heal properly.  “Then… can her injuries still be healed? Lisa asked nervously while trembling,  Serenity, however, seemed calm.  “It’s a long–term process. She has to eat more food that contains calcium. She should also avoid using cold water when she showers or does household chores. Miss Lewis, make sure you rest properly this time so that your injury doesn’t add to the complications,” said Dr. House.  He prescribed some medicine for her which Lisa went to get. Meanwhile, Jackson helped Lisa walk to a chair outside the  consulting room.  “Does it hurt?” asked Jackson.  “Actually, it doesn’t hurt that much,” said Serenity, “The injury isn’t that serious. Like the doctor said, I’ll heal in a week or  Two.”  He pursed his lips, “The old injuries the doctor mentioned… are they the injuries you suffered in prison?”  Serenity feigned a smile and said nonchalantly, “I took some beating in prison, but it’s no big deal. These old injuries will heal  ake care of them properly from now on.  The more nonchalant she looked, the more upset he became  “Sis, do you hate the people who put you in jail?” he suddenly asked.  She laughed. “Who am I supposed to hate? The judge? The Hall family who sued me? The Shaw family who refused to help me? Jackson Valor?  Chapter of
