He snorted, pat her head, “Hmm, at least you know how to protect yourself.” Ellinor pouted, reached for the phone, “Give me the phone already.” He gave her the phone. Ellinor took the phone, quickly opened Twitter to check the news today… Everything looked normal on the trending topics, the related topic had been suppressed, probably because Theo had it taken down. Theo looked at her, “Why did we have to run? Exercising after eating, what if you get a stomach–ache?” Ellinor blinked, feeling helpless, “What, were we supposed to duke it out with them?” Theo gently scraped her flushed face with his finger, “You don’t need to get involved in a fight, just stay behind me.” Ellinor frowned, “I don’t want you to get dragged into this…” Before she could finish, someone shouted, “I found them, over there!” “Chase them! Don’t let them get away!” “Stop running!” Ellinor realized they were in a bind, “Oh no, we’ve been spotted! You go! I can handle them on my own!” Theo frowned at her plan, “We leave together!” Ellinor was out of breath, sprinting right after a full meal didn’t feel so great… “I’ll stay and distract them! Stop dawdling, go!” Theo frowned, he wasn’t happy with her decision. What did she take him for? Did she think he would just leave her and run away? Ellinor was like a cat on a hot tin roof, pushing him away… Just then, Collin pulled up in his car, screeched to a halt and rolled down the windows, “Hurry! Get her in the car!” Theo, holding Ellinor’s hand, walked swiftly towards the car and they hopped in. Collin floored it, driving them away from that place… By the time the crowd got there, all they saw was a high–end Maybach driving off, which only fueled their anger. “Did that extortionist just get into a limited edition Maybach?” “That woman can afford a luxury car and a hot young guy by extortion? This is unbelievable, is this fair?” “This world is so unfair, a bad woman who makes money by extorting others‘ lives such a comfortable life, while we law–abiding citizens have to work our butts off!” “We should post all the footage online, exposing their true colors!” “Yeah! Let’s also expose the hot guy she’s keeping on the internet! Villains should get their comeuppance, we should use public opinion to take down their scam gang!”

Chapter 327  Ellinor picked a fast food joint nearby because she was starving and wanted to wolf down some food as soon as possible. Theo thought the grub was nothing but junk, but he went along with her, figuring she needed something in her belly pronto Ellinor ordered a combo meal and added a few more a la carte items. Theo didn’l eal, he just picked up the lab.  While she was chowing down, Theo just sat across from her, watching her in silence.  When Ellinor was almost done with her meal, she sipped on her soda through a straw and asked:  *Theo, when you decided to marry me, was it because you saw that I was capable, that I could take care of myself and wouldn’t put you in a tight spot easily, right?”  Theo was taken aback; she had nailed why he’d originally chosen her.  “Indeed, I didn’t want innocent people to get dragged into this. My original choice couldn’t make it because of a flight delay due to weather. You, on the other hand, showed guts and practical skills, so I thought you were the perfect fit. Don’t worry, though, I will protect  you.”  Ellinor wasn’t worried, just curious.  “You’re chattier than usual today, are you parched?”  With that, she offered her soda to Theo….  Theo was surprised. She was offering him a sip of her soda! He took the straw and drank.  Ellinor retrieved her soda and continued drinking, acting as if nothing was amiss.  Theo felt a warm glow. Looking at her, he asked, “Do you not dislike me anymore?”  “Disliking you won’t do any good, like you said, we’re already entwined!”  “So would you give me a chance, can we start over?”  “Let’s give it a shot!” Ellinor raised her eyebrows.  “Give it a shot?”  *See if we can really get used to each other. If we can, we stick together, if we can’t, we stick to the original plan and call it quits when time’s up! Theo, some things seem simple when you think about it, but when you actually do it, it’s a whole different ball game. We grew up in different worlds, there’s a generation gap, we might not be the perfect match! So let’s leave some wiggle room, save ourselves from awkwardness later!”  Theo reached out and playfully pinched her chin, “So during this trial period, can I kiss you?”  “Cough, cough, that depends on my mood!” Ellinor blushed.  “How’s your mood now?”  “So–so.”  “Why so–so?”  Ellinor huffed, “I just got out of the police station in handcuffs, would you be in a good mood if you were me?”  Hearing this, Theo felt a pang of guilt. He took her hand and checked her wrists to make sure the handcuffs hadn’t left a mark. Seeing her allergic reaction had completely subsided, he was relieved.  At that moment, Theo’s phone rang.  He glanced at it, it was a call from Collin.  After picking up the call and listening for a few seconds, his face changed dramatically, “When did this happen?”  Ellinor noticed his strange reaction and looked at him with concern.  Theo quickly stood up and said to her, “I need to step out to take this call, I’ll be right back. You stay here, don’t wander off, eat some  more.”  Ellinor nodded, but she was even more curious about what had happened on the other end of the phone call, was Patricia feeling unwell again?  With Theo gone to take the call, Ellinor sipped her soda and watched the street scene outside the window, feeling bored.  Just then, a couple walked by her, discussing the latest news…  “I can’t believe there are girls like her in our society! So young, instead of looking for a decent job, she tricks people with her elderly  family member!”  “That’s right! They don’t have to worry about being punished for making such improper money!”  “Wait a minute! Look at that person… it’s her, right?”  “Yes, that’s her!”  “Everyone, look! The female scammer that’s trending online is right here!”  Before Ellinor

Chapter 326  In the middle of a crowded subway, Ellinor was completely swayed by Theo’s words…  Even though the subway was super noisy, he spoke so softly, it felt like she was the only one who could hear him.  Yet, she was blushing and feeling shy!  Without looking up at Theo, she chuckled softly, ‘I didn’t save your life, you don’t have to thank me.”  Theo held her tight, “Who said you didn’t save me? You did, that rainy night, I know you were saving me.”  Ellinor froze for a moment, feeling awkward again when he brought up that night…  “That day I got kidnapped, didn’t you risk your life to save me? So, we’re even, you don’t have to feel responsible for me!”  She was still trying her best to clarify their relationship, sometirnes Theo thought Ellinor was too smart for her own good, other times she was so naive it drove him crazy.  “You’re so naive, but you’re a good kid, always acting so cold!”  Theo scolded her gently while ruffling her hair, “You’re making light of it now, but I know you struggled a lot at the time to save me, night wasn’t easy for you, it’s my fault you had to suffer.”  Ellinor was taken aback, her nose suddenly turned sour.  that  No one had ever understood her feelings like this before, trying to figure out how she was feeling, seeing through her facade, and not mocking her.  Growing up, some people thought she was beneath them, they took joy in humiliating her when she couldn’t fight back, completely ignoring her feelings.  Now that she’s grown up and can protect herself, everyone thinks she’s so strong that she can’t be broken, that she doesn’t have a vulnerable side.  This often led her to ignore her own feelings, fooling herself into thinking she had no fears, no weaknesses.  This man, he shattered that protective layer in her heart….  The man sighed suddenly, whispering. “Looks like, I’m just not cut out for romance. The flower field I prepared for you that day went to waste, you barely looked at it before you left. Instead, I ended up confessing my feelings in this noisy, casual setting.”  Ellinor looked up in surprise, “What? The tulip field at Pearl Moon, that was for me?”  “Who else would it be for?”  “Hmph, don’t lie to me, how could that field of flowers be for me? That day in your public confession at The Bund of Trent River, you even said Patricia’s name!”  “That wasn’t me.”  Theo didn’t get angry at the misunderstanding, instead he patiently explained to her.  “I’ve been investigating the matter these past few days, trying to figure out who was behind all that stuff that made you misunderstand  me.”  Ellinor listened, blinking…  The man lowered his head, whispering seriously in her ear, “You need to understand, my situation is complicated. I can’t make a public confession, I won’t make a public confession to anyone. That’s just revealing my weakness, putting the other person in danger of being kidnapped and used against me. So, I would never do something like that.”  Ellinor finally understood, she had been kidnapped last time and used to threaten Theo.  “I’ve found out the truth about that matter, there happened to be someone with the same name in the LED advertisement on the Century Bank building that day, it was all just a coincidence and had nothing to do with me. If you don’t believe me, I can take you to see their  order.”  So that’s what happened?  “When you were sitting alone at the Bund that day, looking at all that, were you cursing me in your heart?”  Ellinor felt embarrassed, then nodded honestly.  Yes, she had cursed him.  That day, she thought Theo had called her to Pearl Moon to watch him confess to Patricia, it was so unfair!  Now that she knew it wasn’t true, she fell a bit ashamed.  Theo could understand Ellinor’s feelings, but he also felt helpless, reminding her, “Next time if I do something that makes you upset,  you need to ask me directly, don’t make assumptions on your own.”  Ellinor knew she had misunderstood Theo, she stopped being stubborn, “Okay, I got it.”  After clearing up the misunderstanding between them, Ellinor finally stopped resisting and being wary of him. Theo breathed a sigh of  relief.
