Chapter 685  +15 BONUS  Caroline and Kirk were eating when they heard knocking on the door. She looked at the time and wondered aloud, “Who could be visiting us at this hour?”  “I’ll get the door,” said Kirk. He got up and headed toward the door. After peeking through the doorhole, his expression changed.  “Who is it?” asked Caroline.  She had just asked her question when Kirk opened the door to admit a haggard–looking Marietta. Caroline rushed to her and led into the house. “Mom, what happened to you?”  Marietta looked lifeless. “It’s confirmed that Yvonne is my daughter,” she mumbled.  “Isn’t this great news? Why do you look so-” Marietta started mumbling again, leaving Caroline’s sentence unfinished. Her voice was low, so Caroline couldn’t tell if she was talking to her, or simply mumbling to herself.  “But she doesn’t accept me as her mother,” Marietta muttered.  Caroline paled at her words and gripped Marietta’s hands to comfort her.  Kirk headed into the kitchen to pour Marietta a glass of water.  “Did you see Yvonne?” Caroline’s voice was laced with concern. “Can you tell me what happened?”  Marietta went in and out of her daze as she explained what transpired. Although her sentences were sometimes unclear, Caroline still managed to get a gist of what had happened  She pulled Marietta into her arms and said, “It’s fine, Mom. She might not accept it now, but she’ll surely do so in the future.”  “Do you really think so?” Marietta curled up in Caroline’s embrace, like a fragile little Carrie, do you think I’ve failed as a mother?”  canary.  Caroline looked down at the frail–looking woman and felt her heart ache. Still, she didn’t know how to comfort Marietta.  Afterall, Caroline wasn’t Marietta’s biological daughter. She felt like it wasn’t her place to say anything. Only Marietta’s biological daughter could put in a word or two at a time like this.  “Have some water,” Kirk said as he brought Marietta the glass.  After taking a few gulps of water, she didn’t feel as cold as before. It suddenly dawned on her that Caroline and Kirk were having dinner when she arrived.  “I must’ve interrupted you,” she said. “Please finish your meals. Don’t mind me.”  +15 BONUS  “It’s no big deal,” Caroline told her. “Have you eaten?”  “Yes,” Marietta replied with a gentle smile. She abruptly recalled how Yvonne had yelled at her to leave, and her heart broke at the thought. Still, she put on a smile as if to comfort herself. “Please continue. I’ll take a seat here in the living room. Pay me no mind.”  Hesitating, Caroline turned to look at Kirk. He reached his hand out toward her and said, “Let’s go then.”  Caroline’s eyes widened at his response. She stared at him, puzzled. But he simply nodded and pulled her to the dining room.  Caroline lowered her voice and asked, “Are you sure we should be leaving her alone like this?”  When they got to the dining table, Kirk glanced at Marietta. He advised, “Leave her alone for a bit. You can’t help much even if you were to keep her company.”  “Hurry and eat.” He added, “Otherwise, you’ll get hungry.”  Caroline nodded in understanding, but she still glanced worriedly at Marietta.  “Eat.” Kirk flicked her on the forehead. She eventually relented and continued gobbling up her meal.  Caroline was affected by what had happened to Marietta, making the meal unpleasant. After she finished, she discovered that Marietta was already asleep on the couch.  Caroline shushed Kirk and whispered, “I’m getting her a blanket. Keep your voice low. Don’t wake her up.”  She went into the bedroom to get a blanket for Marietta. Kirk couldn’t hide his smile after having seen Caroline tiptoeing to the bedroom.  He was amused and thought her to be silly.  He glanced over at Marietta, who looked very much lethargic on the couch. He shook his head helplessly at her.  Today’s Bonus Offer

Chapter 683  +15 BONUS  Marietta felt a rush of emotions when she first saw Yvonne, but the feelings vanished rather quickly. She thought it was strange. She had anticipated more excitement when meeting her long. -lost daughter. But as Yvonne walked toward her…  Instead of sensing a familiar feeling with Yvonne, Marietta was growing increasingly resistant to the idea that she was her daughter.  With a hand on her chest, Marietta told herself that she was feeling that way simply because she wasn’t completely certain if Yvonne was her daughter yet.  “Dad, Mom, why did you call me here?” Yvonne wasn’t aware of Marietta. She was focused on reading the label “Laboratory” on the door behind her parents.  “Are you feeling sick?” Yvonne asked worriedly.  “No” Aiden patted her on the shoulder. He explained, “Ms. Weiss here claims that you are her daughter. She wouldn’t be convinced otherwise.”  “We wanted you to take a test.” He continued, “Are you okay with this?”  Only after hearing his words did Yvonne realize that Marietta was with them. She smiled brightly. After all, Marietta was a famous scriptwriter.  “Ms. Weiss, I’m really not your daughter,” she responded. “But if you insist on taking the test, I’m fine with it.”  Marietta smiled at Yvonne, who seemed like a dutiful daughter to Aiden and his wife. “Thank you for your understanding. Let’s begin, shall we?”  Aiden stepped aside from the door of the laboratory. “Please,” he said.  “Hold on,” Marietta said abruptly. “Yvonne and I have taken a test before, so it isn’t necessary. How about you and your wife take the test, Mr. Hackett? We’ll know for certain then.  Aiden pondered it for a moment. What she said was reasonable, so he agreed, “Alright. We’ll head in first then. Please wait for us here.”  “Okay.  Marietta took a step backward and felt her heart race at the uncertainty of it all. When she saw- how confident and determined the Hackett couple looked, a seed of doubt grew in her heart. She second–guessed herself,  The present technology for DNA testing was highly developed. There should be no reason for anything to go wrong  +15 BONUS  Once in the laboratory, Yvonne finally got the chance to ask her parents about the incident. “Dad,  Mom, when did Marietta and I take a DNA test? Why am I not aware of it?”  Aiden and his wife glanced at each other. Aiden said, “She must’ve gotten her hands on a hair  sample of yours. Something like this is easy to accomplish. All she had to do was hire a private  detective.”  “Oh my! This is terrifying!” exclaimed Yvonne. “Thank goodness I’m not her daughter. It’d be horrifying to have a mother like her.”  Yvonne stuck her tongue out exaggeratingly. An amused Mrs. Hackett ruffled her hair in  response. “You’re a naughty one, aren’t you? Ms. Weiss‘ daughter went missing when she was very young.”  “Perhaps Ms. Weiss was desperate in her search that she came to us.” She added, “We’re your parents, so how could we not know that you’re our biological daughter?”  “Yep,” Yvonne chirped in agreement as she leaned against Mrs. Hackett’s shoulder.  Time passed as they chatted. Soon, the doctor was done taking their samples.  “Sir, you’ll have to wait a while for the results,” the doctor informed them.  “Okay.” Aiden stood up and said, “Let’s wait outside.”  The three of them left the laboratory.  Marietta saw them and approached with hasty footsteps.  “It’ll take some time to get the results,” said Mrs. Hackett as she held Marietta’s hand in hers. “I understand how anxious you are in searching for your daughter, but Yvonne is ours. You might be disappointed.”  Today’s Bonus Offer 

Chapter 682  +15 BONUS  “Darling,” said Kirk as he leaned closer and whispered into her ear as if to seduce her. “I can’t live without you. So don’t ever leave me, okay?”  Caroline was rather speechless. “When have I said that I’m leaving you?”  Kirk chuckled at her response. “I know you won’t leave me. I just wanted to tell you that I couldn’t live without you,” he said as he pinched her earlobe,  Caroline glanced up at him. “What’s wrong?” She wondered why he was speaking as if she was leaving him soon.  “Nothing.” Kirk lowered his head and rested his forehead against hers. “Are you hungry, darling?”  “No.”  “Well, I am,” he said and proceeded to bite her earlobe playfully. “I’ll make you dinner once I’ve eaten.”  His words left Caroline speechless once again.  At the Hacketts‘ residence, Marietta couldn’t wait any longer. With the help of her assistant, she contacted Aiden Hackett and explained her call. His expression changed immediately when he heard what she said.  “Ms. Weiss, you’re a globally renowned scriptwriter, no doubt. My family loves the stories you. write too, but I can’t just let you fabricate about what goes on in my family.  “Yvonne is my daughter,” said Marietta. “Take a look at this report if you don’t believe me.”  She handed the report that she just received two days ago over to him.  Aiden didn’t even spare it a single glance. “Yvonne is my biological daughter. I’m her father, so do you really think I’d be oblivious to this?”  Marietta had to admit that she also found it strange when the hired private detective told her about Yvonne.  Yvonne’s identity was pretty straightforward. She was known publicly as Aiden’s daughter with his wife, and wasn’t an illegitimate child.  Aiden had children, so there was no reason for him to adopt one from an orphanage. Strangely, though, this happened.  Marietta snapped back from her thoughts. She took out the copy of the adoption certificate that the private detective had given her.  +15 BONUS  “Take a look at this,” she said. “Your wife signed this back then.”  Aiden picked up the certificate to see that his wife’s signature was indeed on it. His expression  changed instantly. He hesitated for awhile before asking a housemaid to send for his wife.  Aiden’s wife was a picture of grace and sophistication. After being briefed by Aiden, she picked  up the certificate off the table to inspect it. “Indeed, this handwriting looks very similar to mine,” she told them, her voice doubtful. “But I’ve never signed this. Perhaps there was a mistake.”  Aiden said, “Ms. Weiss, did you hear her? You must’ve been mistaken.”  Still, Marietta wasn’t going to give in just like this. She and Yvonne had taken a maternity test, which confirmed their biological relationship. There was no mistaking it.  “How about we let the truth speak for itself?” Marietta suggested. “So that we can finally put this  to rest.”  “What do you mean?” Aiden asked.  Have Yvonne and I take a maternity test,” she said. “Your men will be responsible for it. What do you think?  Aiden and his wife exchanged glances. His wife smiled and said, “We’ll agree to it if you insist. It’ll save us from trouble in the future, anyway.”  Aiden didn’t object to the idea as his wife had agreed to it. He told his butler to send for Yvonne.  The group headed to the Hackett’s private hospital together. The Hackett family didn’t own as many hospitals across the nation as the Morrisons. Still, it had quite its share of medical  resources  Hence, it wasn’t a chore for them to order a maternity test. Soon after getting a call from the butler, Yvonne arrived at the hospital.
