Chapter 150 I Wish You Happiness  Cherry noticed that Erin was quite agitated. She said with a sigh. “Erin, I know you’re still upset about lan’s affair, but it’s been some time already. Shouldn’t you let go of your anger?”  “What exactly are you trying to say. Mom? You’re not trying to convince me to forgive lan, are you?” Erin questioned, feeling a bit.  disappointed.  There was a hint of embarrassment in Cherry’s eyes, and she hesitated to admit her true intentions. She patiently persuaded, “Him coming to see me on his own initiative proves that he still cares about you. He even said he wants to change the names on the property deeds of both villas to yours. Erin, opportunities like this don’t come often! Don’t you realize how much these two villas are worth? Just think about it, if he ever wrongs you again, you won’t lose out on anything. You’ll have two villas, and you won’t have to worry about housing for the  rest of your life!”  Erin knew her mother’s intentions very well. She was simply asking her to compromise and accept the security that came with owning  property. Even if she were to repeat the same mistakes in the future. she would be compensated in the form of material possessions.  From a practical standpoint, owning two houses was certainly more reliable than relying on promises from a man.  Even so, Erin was loyal to nothing but her own ideal of love and marriage. Hence, she didn’t want to compromise what she believed in for  material possessions.  “Mom, you should have some faith in me. I can earn money on my own, and I can buy my own house too. You don’t need to worry about  these things. lan and I are done. There’s no need for you to keep persuading me otherwise,” Erin said calmly and defiantly.  The thought of her daughter giving up the opportunity to acquire two properties pained Cherry deeply. She steeled herself and took on a  more authoritarian tone. “Oh, Erin. Why are you so stubborn? Before you arrived, lan had already assured me that he has cut things off  completely with that other woman. He even fired her! He said not even his mother would acknowledge that woman-”  Erin had reached her limit listening to her mother’s ridiculous advice. Her anger flared up instantly. “Mom, can you please stop meddling in my personal matters? It’s your choice and your freedom to forgive Grayson so quickly. I won’t say anything about it! But please respect my  decision!”  Cherry fell silent for a moment upon hearing those words. She actually felt quite ashamed inside for forgiving her cheating husband so  quickly and easily. However, having control over his assets was better than ending up with nothing if they were to separate in the future.  “Fine, I don’t have a say in your life choices, after all. Do whatever you want.” Cherry returned to her seat without saying another word.  Erin felt a twinge of guilt in her heart. After all, her mother was still a patient, and she should have been more understanding. Thinking of that, she walked over, held her mother’s hand, and said patiently, “Mom, to tell you the truth, lan is still involved with that woman. He’s lying to your face. He has already hurt me deeply once, and I don’t want to get hurt by him a second time. I just hope you can understand.”  Cherry looked at her with reddened eyes and said, “I’m getting old. The reason I care so much about money is because I’m concerned for your future, as well as Gavin’s. Besides, when Gavin grows up, he’ll eventually get married and need to buy a house. I want to hold on to Grayson’s property to prevent him from being deceived by some vixen in the future. Do you think I still love Grayson as I did in the past? No. I’m just being more realistic.”  She went on, “As for lan, of course, I know he’s not a man that’s worth holding on to. I’m just thinking that if you can get those two houses. the four years you spent with him wouldn’t be in vain. Erin, you’re too naive. But I know your temperament, so I won’t force you anymore.”  After Cherry said that, she wiped away her tears, feeling heartbroken for both her daughter and herself. Cherry’s words made Erin’s heart ache. She didn’t expect that her mother understood everything better than she did. In a way, Erin was glad that her mother was being more practical.  “Mom, thank you.” Although she couldn’t meet her mother’s expectations, she still appreciated her mother’s efforts in looking out for her.  Cherry patted Erin’s hand and said nothing more.  Early the next morning, Cherry insisted on being discharged from the hospital. Alter the doctor confirmed that she was fine, she was allowed to leave. Erin and the others didn’t stop her as well. Just as Erin walked out of the neighborhood gate, she turned around and said to lan, who was behind her, “lan, my mom is fine now. So, you can go back. I won’t keep you for lunch.”  Even if he was asked to leave so bluntly, lan didn’t feel embarrassed at all. He smiled and said, “There’s no need to chase me away so hastily. Let me stay and help you.”  “Mr. Sloan, you don’t need to go out of your way to please my mom,” Erin said with a hint of disdain in her voice.  lan replied seriously, “I’m not trying to please your mom. I’m trying to please you.”  “lan, have you forgotten what I told you the last time?”  He frowned and smirked. “Yeah, I remember, alright. You don’t want to be friends with me anymore, but I can’t do it! We were together for a whole four years! How can we just break up like that? It’s not like we’re sworn enemies now. Is it really necessary for you to treat me like  this?”  Erin froze briefly, but she remained calm and said. “Don’t bring up the past anymore. Everything in the past bears no meaning to me now.”  She didn’t look at him and continued walking forward. Rooted to where he was standing, lan had a gloomy expression. He took a few  steps forward and grabbed Erin’s arm. “I don’t believe that the past means nothing to you!”  Erin forcefully shook off his hand. “lan, whether you believe it or not is irrelevant to me. We’re all adults, and I’ve already made myself very 

Chapter 149 Reconciliation  Erin’s voice was hoarse as she asked over the phone, “Why is he here? How did he know that our mother was hospitalized?”  Gavin confessed immediately. “I’m sorry… I told lan about this. I was really scared at that time. Mom had just been taken to the emergency room, and I couldn’t find Dad. You didn’t show up in time either, so… I just hoped that someone capable would show up quickly. But stupid me forgot that lan and you were already divorced. He wouldn’t bother with our family’s affairs anymore, and he’s not in Southwrok County since he’s in the city. When I realized my mistake, I informed lan about it.” lan, who was dressed in a summer suit, seemed to be in good spirits. He was holding a box of expensive supplements worth a thousand dollars. Standing with Gavin in the corridor outside the ward, he attracted a lot of attention. Gavin was a sunny and handsome young man,  while lan was elegant and charismatic.  Many people passing by couldn’t help but steal glances at them. Handsome men like lan were rare in a small county like Southwrok County, and they were even least likely to appear in a hospital.  A particularly enthusiastic young nurse approached them and asked, “Are you a family member visiting a patient? Are you looking for the ward number of the patient?”  lan smiled at the young and pretty nurse in front of him and spoke very gentlemanly, “Yes, we’re here to visit a patient. We know the ward number. Thank you.”  His tone was polite, while his gaze was calm and friendly. Gavin secretly observed all of this. lan had contacted Gavin several times before, showing concern for his studies. He kept using the excuse of providing nutritional supplements for Gavin to give him money.  Gavin had already received nearly a hundred thousand dollars from lan without the knowledge of Cherry, Grayson, or Erin. Naturally, he wouldn’t let Erin find out about this.  lan’s intention was very straightforward. He hoped that Gavin would help bridge the gap between him and Erin. lan expressed regret to Gavin for betraying his sister in the past and talked at length about his desire to spend the rest of his life with Erin.  As lan needed Gavin’s help, he was exceptionally generous. In turn, Gavin still regarded lan as his former brother–in–law and had already decided to secretly help lan win back Erin.  “lan, let’s go into the ward instead of standing in the corridor.”  Gavin gradually grew annoyed at the nurses who kept passing by intentionally to look at them. Ian’s behavior pleased Gavin. This former brother–in–law of his didn’t seem to notice these women and didn’t give them a second glance.  lan furrowed his brows slightly and said, “Gavin, I’m worried that Cherry won’t want to see me.”  “Don’t worry, I’ll go in first and talk to Mom. Once she agrees, you can come in.”  “Okay, I’ll wait outside then. I won’t go in until she’s willing to see me.” lan showed exceptional patience and humility. This made Gavin even more determined to help his former brother–in–law.  While lan waited outside the ward, Erin left the hospital and went to a supermarket across the street to buy some things. Her eyes were slightly swollen from crying, and she didn’t want her mother to notice. So, she decided to go buy some snacks and desserts that her mother and Gavin liked in the supermarket.  Early that morning when Erin got into the taxi, the young driver, who was a fan of celebrity gossip, recognized her as soon as she got in. Therefore, as soon as she left the hospital she wore sunglasses and a mask. Ever since the scandal with Matthew and Roman, she would carry these two items with her whenever she went out. Alter all, she couldn’t afford to offend the fans of these male idols. In that case, the wisest choice would be to hide from them and avoid them.  Now, she herself had become an actress. Even though she hadn’t appeared in any films masses who loved to gossip.  Erin pushed the shopping cart around the supermarket and threw the things her mother and Gavin liked into it without hesitation. Right  then, her phone rang. Upon seeing that it was Roman, she answered right away.  “Erin, how is your mother doing?” Roman asked, getting straight to the point.  “She’s fine. Her mental state has improved a lot. I’m just a bit worried about her, so I took two days off to keep her company, just in case.”  Roman let out a sigh of relief. “That’s good, then. I’ll wait for you to return to the filming crew. If you need to stay a few more days, I can talk to the director to make some arrangements. You don’t have to feel burdened about asking for more days off.”  Erin expressed her gratitude. “Thank you, Roman. I’ll let you know if it’s necessary.”  “Alright. I’m heading to the filming crew now. Feel free to call me if you need anything.”  “Thank you, Roman.”  Roman sounded

Chapter 148 Engagement to Wedding  After Charlotte said that, she picked up her bag from the ground and walked out of the ward in a hull. Watching her retreating figure, Cherry trembled with anger. She pointed to the spot where Charlotte had stood just now and gritted her teeth.  “Erin, look at your aunt! Is she even human? Even if she apologized and knelt down for forgiveness, it was all an act! Both she and Grayson probably wish for my early death, those inhumane beasts-  Looking at her mother, Erin said seriously, ‘Mom, since you think so, you shouldn’t let those shameless people have an easy life. You should live well in the future. You’re better off living out the rest of your life happily than wallowing in their betrayal.”  Although Cherry’s smile didn’t quite reach her eyes, she was determined. “You’re right. We shouldn’t let them have the satisfaction of breaking us down. Erin, you must promise me that you’ll work hard in acting and strive to succeed as soon as possible. Let your biological father, Steven, see how well I’ve raised you! And let Charlotte see how outstanding my daughter is! Then only she’ll know her daughter  can’t compare.”  Cherry’s words carried strong subjective emotions, but Erin understood her. She replied, “Mom, as long as you and Gavin are doing well back home, I’ll be at ease filming in any city.”  Cherry nodded with remorse. “I know. I was wrong this time and made you worry. Such things will never happen again. I promise you!”  “Really?” Erin was afraid that Cherry might suddenly change her mind. What if she started obsessing over it again later?  “Yes, really. I realized through this experience that it’s better to be alive than to be dead. I’ve always lived so positively and optimistically. I won’t let an unfaithful man be the end of me! It’s just not worth it. In my heart, you and Gavin are the most important. You’re my reason for staying alive and moving on,” Cherry said, her eyes turning red again.  Erin took out a tissue from her bag and handed it to Cherry. She said with earnestness, “Mom, you’ve worked hard for me and Gavin for most of your life. You don’t need to work so hard anymore. If you want to keep the mart, go on ahead. If you don’t want to, just sell it to someone else. I’ll focus on acting wholeheartedly now that I’ve closed my online store. Don’t worry, I won’t let you down!”  Cherry nodded with relief. Her eyes were filled with hope as she looked at her daughter. This daughter of hers had always been mature and considerate as she grew up. She never caused any trouble for Cherry. This was something that she’d always been glad of after divorcing  Steven. 1  Erin took out a bank card from her wallet and handed the three hundred thousand dollars she earned from selling her online store to  Cherry.  “Mom, here is three hundred thousand dollars. You must accept it. I know the mart is doing well, and you won’t lack money for your daily expenses. This is a fund for Gavin’s future college education. Steven paid for my education, after all. I must repay this favor, or I won’t feel  at ease.”  Cherry looked at her daughter. Although she was reluctant to accept the money, at her daughter’s insistence, she took the bank card and said, “I’ll keep this money and not spend it. You don’t need to be responsible for Gavin’s college expenses. That’s something we, as parents, should take care of. Even if I don’t live with Grayson anymore, Gavin is still his biological son. He can’t shirk his responsibilities.”  Erin nodded and said, “As for matters of the heart, I have nothing much to say as your daughter. I just want to say that if you don’t want to be together with Grayson anymore, don’t force yoursell to stay with him.”  “Alright, I know. You don’t have to worry. Go back and continue filming. I’m fine now!”  To ease her mother’s mind, Erin lied, “Mom, the crew is on a break for the next few days, so I’m not in a hurry to go back.”  “Really? You’re on a break?” Cherry’s expression lit up. She was genuinely happy to have her daughter accompany her for a few more days.  Erin nodded and said, “Yes, really. I’m not lying to you.”  “That’s great! Let’s go back now. Hurry and call your brother. Tell him there’s no need to buy food anymore,” Cherry instructed, as if  suddenly wanting to focus all her attention on her children.  How could Erin not understand Cherry’s intentions? She gently pressed Cherry’s shoulder and said, “Mom, don’t bother. Stay in the hospital for these two days. I won’t go anywhere. I’ll just sit here and chat with you.”  “But Erin, I’ve taken up too much of your time-”  Cherry’s concern that she was taking up too much of her daughter’s time tugged at Erin’s heartstrings. She hugged her mother without  saying a word, her eyes watering as she tried her best to hold back her tears.  Not long after, Gavin returned. Cherry started eating breakfast even though she couldn’t really eat much. However, for the sake of her children’s peace of mind, she took each bite with determination.  The moment she had some time to herself, Erin went to the corridor outside the ward to make a phone call. She needed to ask for leave from the director. She wouldn’t be able to film for at least two days.  Although it was still early, she felt that sending a casual text message to the director would be too informal. Therefore, she made a phone call, as it was more proper to do so. After learning of her situation, the director was very understanding. He told her not to worry and that she should prioritize being with her family. He would reschedule her scenes to be shot at a later time.  Erin hung up gratefully. Then, she thought about calling Roman. However, upon seeing the time, she gathered that Roman might still be  asleep, so she sent him a text message instead.  With her phone in her hand, she thought about Gaston, but she didn’t dare to ask about his condition. She was afraid that she would receive bad news if she asked. But then Erin thought of Simon. She felt that it was easier for her to ask Simon about their grandfather.  So, she sent a text message to Simon. “Has your grandfather’s condition improved?”  Unexpectedly, Simon replied quickly. “Thank you for your concern. He’s no longer in the critical stage, and he has woken up.”  This news relieved Erin as if it were her own grandfather who was fine. She was so excited that she immediately called Chandler, but once  again, it was Kyle who answered the phone instead.  “Hello, Ms. Lane.”
